So what if its a little bigger and incorporates the iphone interface a bit. I say bring it on- although I don't know how it will fit in my pocket. Boy it would sure be awkward explaining to the ladies in the club that it is in fact just an ipod nano and I am not happy to see them :D

I remember making somethign like this a while ago. It's for the "iPhone nano" however. And I did use a touchscreen + ClickWheel combo so debunk it all you want! =] It's meant to have the Click Wheel because it has a standard touchscreen, not a multitouch, but then again, I'm an idiot.

Here it is, just for viewing enjoyment. Also attached is a very old iPod concept I made from way back—before the iPhone came out.

Funny, I see a lot of devices when I google portable or pocket computer that resembles your ipod with the slideout keyboard. However, I do like it for someone like myself who likes real keys and found it awkward to type on the virtual keyboard when trying out one of the first iphones ever sold.

You should have patented that design. Here are just a few I googled (of course apple would have abetter concept.

I'm actually hoping that the classic refresh (hoping there is one in September!) includes the elimination of cover flow and an increase in capacity to 200GBs.

Seriously.....what? Elimination of cover flow? Yes its useless but the paragraph before you were just raving about how Apple doesn't take steps backward

200 gb??? It is already offered at 160 gb. Thats like complaining about a 200 million dollar lottery win that you only actually got 160 million out of.

If you need more than 160 gig of anything on an iPod at any given time....then you need help. Period.

This thread reminds me SO much of the discussion when the "fattie" nano was first rumored...
"No way Apple will make the Nano look like that..."
"Looks like it's overweight..."
"... deal-breaker..."
"If Apple does this the iPod is DOOMED!"

Now people have suddenly fallen in love with the new form factor and going back to one similar to the 1 and 2G is unthinkable? Only time will tell.

"Copying" the Zune? It's a small rectangle with a screen and a controller. Of course it's gonna look similar. I just look at it as a larger screen on the 2G formfactor.

Every single one one of those is ugly, cheap cheap cheap quality, and practically unusable. Slideout keyboard = 13 year old.
90% plastic, 10% screen = someone who doesn't what their pictures or video looks like (yet it has all those grrrrrrrrrreat features which are soooooo usable...nope).

That's right, the click wheel's not going away anytime soon.

This reminds me of all the mockups last year of the iPod nano, with tilt sensors and all that.

I still think 9 to 5 mac's multicolor rumor is correct; they got the colors right last year.

I wonder if there's someone out there capable enough to do up a mockup of the supposed design using the 3G iPod nano as a base rather than the 2G?

That would at least give us an idea as to the correct gradients and curves around the edges as well as using one of the more subdued colours from the 3G - the iLounge mockup looks a little weird because of the sharp corners and the old colour.
Coming right up.

Did anyone see the other update Macrumors posted on Page 1, right after this one, about the same thing?

Looks like it was taken down.
WHAAAAT??!! Which one? Screenshot/cache please! Details?

Rectangular is one thing, but who said the clickwheel is staying? why not touch only like the previous pictures?
The rumor?
iLounge said:
To fit the screen and Click Wheel neatly together, the new nano will adopt a form factor that shifts away from the almost square dimensions of the 2007 third-generation nano back towards the general shape of the first- and second-generation models.

One word!!

Horrible!!

God I hope they don't do this, I would think they would stick with the screen layout of the iPod Classic. This to me looks like a backwards design from the current model. Unless Apple makes it look better then this picture, it is ugly.

I had the middle one (ATT 8525) and it sucked. Whenever I would put it up to my ear and use it as a phone, it would connect to the internet because the loser that designed the phone put the internet explorer button right next to the earpiece on the phone (look for yourself). Since it had 3G it would just connect and I would be none the wiser and my phone would die as it sucked up all my battery. I eventually had to disable the button. i wasnt able to truly fix the problem until I threw it against a wall and broke it. Problem fixed.. crappy phone.

Knock off

It looks like one of those knockoff iPods that are so rampantly sold on ebay. I think it is hideous.

LOL I love it

iPod classic?

Does anybody think that Apple will use the same portrait screen design for the next iPod classic?

The 3G nano looked like a smaller 6G classic anyway.

To all the complaining: I heard the same complaints last year when the "fat" nano was leaked. Looks ugly, 2G iPod nano was better, blah blah blah. At least find some new ways of complaining.

However, I had family in town and we went out to eat. We had (they said 1/2 hr) to wait over an hour before being seated. I pulled out my palm centro and started watching CNN and a couple of other shows on the sprint TV.

Wow thats polite.

Anyone else can't stand people who do this in social situations? (prolly on the wrong site for that question).

How is eliminating Cover Flow taking a step backwards? Apple eliminated the ability to Shuffle entire albums on the Touch & iPhone, but clearly they didn't view it as taking a step backwards...Going from offering a max capacity of 160GB down to 32GB is going backwards.

Your comparison of HDD space to winning the lottery is retarded, at best. As I understand it, 1.8" HDDs for iPods are only offered in increments of 80GBs, so actually I should have said 240GBs. I already have the 160GB iPod and my music collection continues to grow. But the bottom line is this: why do you CARE about how much storage space somebody else wants/needs? Get a life!

It never ceases to amaze me how many people like you on these boards absolutely rail against those of us who have HUGE music collections or WANT huge HDD portable devices so that we can rip to lossless formats & still carry our ENTIRE music collection with us. It's not your place to judge how/why people use their iPods. Period. Thank gawd Apple doesn't subscribe to your way of thinking. You sound like the nimrods who told us that we'd never need more than 200MBs of computer storage too...how'd that logic work out?

Gahhhhhhhhhh! Please don't relate any new Apple innovation with a previous Microsuck development. Having said that, it doesn't look that bad...

Stupid and ugly design. When did video suddenly become so important for the iPod nano??

It's used 99.9% as music player by anyone who owns it.

Why do they need to market everything to same customers? Right now, the iPod touch is essentially the worst buy you could possibly make.

Terrible, terrible business models.

Wow...your chronic hubris knows no bounds...Since you're so smart & have a better pulse of what people should want/need, why don't you present your case to the Apple Board of Directors and submit your application to take Steve Jobs place as CEO? Let us all know how that works out for you.

I'll bet my left nut this article has only got so many negatives because of the Zune comparison photo.

Im thinking they will get rid of the click wheel unless the "taller" information means only slightly taller. We'll just have to wait an see.
