Not enough to upgrade from the current gen iPad but sounds cool. Wish fall was here already...

2015: next iPad Air may include upgraded A9 processor and 9 megapixel camera.

2016: next iPad Air may include upgraded A10 processor and 10 megapixel camera.

2017: next iPad Air may include upgraded A11 processor and 11 megapixel camera.

2018: next iPad Air may include upgraded A12 processor and 12 megapixel camera.

Whatever next?

No it's a small but decent update.

Not everybody who got the IPad Air has to buy it.

2015 will probably see the larger 12" ipad.

because the iPad air needs a new processor, a camera no-one really uses and a finger print sensor.. meh. Come on Apple.

I use the camera. I would use it more if my 4S didn't already have a better camera.

The processor on the other hand... I don't care about that as much (it's plenty fast for what it does) but extra RAM all the way down the whole iDevice line would certainly be welcomed.

This just in...

The sun will rise again tomorrow!

Thanks for the update.

But seriously. MacRumors seems to be desperately trying to drum up some clicks on their site.

Exactly

It's pointless now

My "old" new iPad is fast enough

It's no wonder the market is becoming saturated.

We don't need to upgrade our iPads

----------

Btw it's funny that people take photos with their iPads

I've seen it at Yosemite and in machu pichu

They've been reporting anything and everything like this for some time now. It's sad really. "Random internet guy says new iPhone will have features we've been claiming it would have for years like NFC and stuff." Anything and everything that can drive a click and bring them ad revenue.

Man, are you going to feel bad if you're wrong:)

Really, an A8 processor? Never would have guessed. Thought it would ship with last year's A7. I thought Tim Cook would say "Yeah we liked the old A7 so much, we decided not to improve it."
It's not news so stop adding it. Maybe add to the bottom of the article ".... and will also include the successor to the A7 processor detailed here" or "and will include the A8 processor detailed here. Seriously, maybe we need to be told there's going to be a new iPad and Apple hasn't killed the product line. End of rant.

It is unclear when Apple plans to release its second-generation iPad Air, but rumors have pointed towards a release in September or October
Oh wow, such revelation! Guys, this is a big surprise!

No design changes, but...

LG Display will begin production on the displays in June, with Samsung and Sharp ramping up production next month.

Isn't that contradictory? Displays are being made now. If no changes, displays will simply continue to be made.

In the past, people use cameras by looking into the tiny viewfinder. When we have LCD screens at the back of our camera, people were laughing, claiming that it is stupid. Fast forward today, there are cameras not having viewfinders anymore.

Same thing here. Seriously, when you take a picture, why would a smaller viewfinder be better than a larger viewfinder? Having a viewfinder as big as the iPad is awesome. You no longer have to squint and guess what kind of details you would get from your picture. Having to squint and shrink yourself to look at a tiny screen is an old paradigm.

To justify a launch "event", presumably there will be some additional feature not yet rumoured..??

Eh, it was due in 2013, then 2014.. now it's already been pushed to 2015 for no specific reason?

You know what tho? It will most certainly have a newer processor than today's!

BTW a more mega pixels doesn't mean a better low light performance. It's quite the opposite as you have more pixels in the same sensor size. If they increase the size of the sensor, it's a different story.

I'm kind of concerned that Apple will eventually reach a dead end with the iPad. I mean seriously they're just gonna say, "New processor, much performance, new Camera, omg TouchID, better battery life, much thinner". I have no idea what else can they improve in that thing. iOS is something different but in terms of hardware, idk.

Maybe they can improve stylus precision so that when you write its more accurate? Maybe iPad can become a digitizer for the Mac? waterproof? 32GB is the new standard? external card storage? i'm just throwing ideas.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a surprise announcement that Apple has worked closely with Wacom to introduce stylus support. While I don't expect it to happen, it would really make me happy if it did.

The cracked screen is pretty much the only thing that I dislike enough on my iPad 2 to make me considering an upgrade. And it's been cracked for some two years already, so it's not that pressing, really.

A stylus, or even better, stylus + OSX would have me upgrading in no time, but for now, I'll stick with the "deuce".

As it happens everywhere, a company will end up painting itself in a corner due to various incompatible business directions and decisions; ie. a memory card slot vs forcing iCloud down users' collective throat.

Despite that, Apple is in a very enviable position where they can just bump specs on their iPhones and iPads year after year - it won't last forever, but they can sure as ***** keep making billions this way for several more years because these things just sell themselves at this point. Milking the cow, if you will.

It isn't so much what they chose to do or not with the iPad, it's what comes after - there needs to be an after, another brilliant billion-making after.

maybe it's time we tell apple that we had enough with little improvements..and demand we get all out ultra performance iPad with ultra features...
