Flat back seems like a good idea for placing it on flat surfaces, always assumed though that the curve in the first one was intentionally there to get you to hold it so your first interactions with it felt natural.

Apple already selling 2nd gen cases instore!

Check this out - I was in the Apple store the other day and found an Incase case with the insert already in it, I got a picture from the website - check it out yourself, but it clearly has the hole for the new hardware feature on the second gen iPad. I've marked it as it is quite difficult to see but it is clearly there. Check it out instore!

I'm not buying until it shoots rainbows and smells of cinnamon rolls!!!!

How's a flush mount speaker on the back supposed to work if the iPad is lying flat on a table?

I want unicorns farting rainbows while eating cinnamon rolls before I buy one....

Speaker: That's why the slots carry through the fillet = open area while on a flat surface.

I hate the look of the white plastic back. Make it aluminium!!!!

The picture of the white plastic case was a third-party case, and not a picture of the actual device...

A smaller bezel would be most appreciated as well as a flat back, here's hoping for a thinner enclosure and a lighter weight.

what's up with apple's obsession with ginormous bezels? the iphone, ipad, and new macbook air bezel's are rather large and unsightly. ugh. and please make a 7" ipad.

Well, the iPad's are for a reason. Would iOS do a good job differentiating between incidental bezel touching and intentional touching?

I certainly agree about the Air though. I really hope that at some point it will get the same glass screen with black edges seen in most of the other notebooks. And its bezel is huge: way bigger than my 15" TiBook had ten years ago.

Shipping in mid January?? I very much doubt that.

Yeah, these JA's have the ship date all wrong. I'm virtually positive this Jan date is part of of FUD plot to discourage people from purchasing the current version. At the best it's VERY poor journalism.

Ship date no sooner than March 1. And you can quote me on that if I'm wrong.

I'm not buying that speaker pic - it's not apple.

Flat? Impossible to pick off a table with one hand.

I'd rather have a mini-USB and/or a SD Card slot; not a better speaker - well, I would, but, in my opinion, it's not as important than ports.

Photobooth for iPad would be pretty fun.

iPad Mini

I found this picture on the same website of that photo of iPad 2 or is that picture fake?

It sure looks like an iPad Mini.

Agree. I have a hard time using even a 3GS now. It just looks fuzzy.

You guys have it all wrong.
That is not an iPad 2. If you look at the size of the connector and closeness to the speakers and to the edges it clearly cannot be iPad 2.

Based on the size of the connector that is definitely iPad Mini.

If you care to read underneath the photo it says "Artist depiction of iPad 2". Of course dimensions are off. And it's someone's IDEA of the iPad 2. In no way does it resemble what it will actually look like.

Umm, i think this artist depiction is incorporating the rumours of an SD card slot into the image, that is the slot, not the dock connector.

I can't wait to see the reactions when the next iPad is revealed to look identical to the current one. People always hope for far more dramatic changes than we ever end up getting.

A flat back may help improve how the iPad sits on a desk or any flat surface, but remember that a thin flat object laying on a flat surface will be more difficult to pick up. That may have been one reason why they curved the back. The same is true for the iPod touch - it is most definitely not a flat back. If it were, you might need to slide it off of a desk/table to pick it up, as it is considerably thinner than an iPad.

Sometimes improving function in one area reduces function in another. It's all about compromises.

Also, Apple use a trick to make things look thinner than they really are this way.

The human eve is going to look at the thickness along the edge and think wow that's thin, it's not to easy to judge the thickness if the middle.

The iPad would look quite a bit fatter if it's thickness in the middle went right out to the sides.

I don't understand why people are bitching about the bezel. The bezel is there so you can hold the iPad without your thumb covering the screen real estate and interfering with the capacitive touch screen.

You're talking about "people", who can't find their way out of a paper bag. Just ignore them.

I'm buying one no matter what it looks like, I'm sure it will look fine. I'm looking forward to the new features (front facing camera, SD Slot, faster?). Its all good.
