The bezel is there for a reason.

And on the iPhone/iPod touches, the bezel is still there with edge to edge glass. It's just covered by the glass. He didn't say he wanted edge to edge screen. Just edge to edge glass. Big difference.

Hope it has the "edge to edge" glass that the iPhone/iPod Touch has.

It can't have edge to edge.

I don't understand why this is so hard for people to understand. If it was edge to edge you would never be able to hold it and use it, unless it was on something else.

The edge is there so you can hold it with out touching the screen.

It's all good but...
"Next, the back of the iPad is reported to be "flat like an iPod Touch" which would allow the new iPad to sit flat on a desk surface."

Frankly, I never had problem with the "rounded" back...

I don't understand why people are bitching about the bezel. The bezel is there so you can hold the iPad without your thumb covering the screen real estate and interfering with the capacitive touch screen.

Thank you for speaking my mind. Any smaller bezel and there will be serious issues.

Cool with the smaller bezel - just wished the screen was larger though
Cool with starting production already
Cool if it were lighter and had better battery performance
Cool if it were true

I'd love the flat back. Curve back doesn't sit well, it's been a headache for me.

Agree

Furthermore, I think iPad no.2 will have stereo speakers(this will mean 4 speakers, since you will also have stereo in landscape mode), rather than wide-range.
I don't know about the design, it won't be as flat as the iPhone 4, but I think a design like the ipod touch would be a shot in the rose.

What i would like to see is a higher resolution(ofcourse, but how??) and more ram/ghz/better graphics card (games are getting better and bigger, so the ipad will have to keep up. infinity sword for example, i think that game is really close to the maximum capabilities of today's ipad. if they'd upgrade the hardware, then people will buy ipads because of those games!)

Curved back doesn't sit well, but it is more comfortable to hold.
Curved back also adds more weight and it makes iPad look thicker. Apple has been using Curved back on almost every single iPod touches and iPhones for years before iPhone 4 came out.

Truth is, people want this and people want that. And, apple don't give a crap about what people want. They will build their machines the way they want and people will still buy them.

Also, why is everyone so crying about plastic back on iPad? What is wrong with it? Motorola Tablet looks very like plastic and everyone didn't care. So, why are you so harsh on apple, but not android tablets?

Some of you are so biased.

Exactly. Sometimes on my iPad I accidently touch the screen with my thumb while holding it. I wouldn't want a bezel much smaller.

Thing is your can't please everyone and everyone thinks their desires are more important than others. It's obvious, Apple does a great job of satisfying most of the people out there. The sales show it. May not be perfect. May not have it all, but what it does have is usually pretty awesome and the sales prove it.

iPad 2.0 is sure to have many internal and external improvements. I'm sure Apple has learned a lot. I'm really looking forward to it.

Whilst I agree with most of what you say, there is one point people keep bringing up which I'd say is not really accurate, and you have used the same comment again.

The iPad must be great as people are buying so many of them.

Whilst I don't doubt that many love them, also you need to take into account that at the moment, and during this year there has been no realistic choice for people.

If we step a few years back the the 1st year of the iPhone you could have used the same comment as it was the 1st of it's kind.

Now there are Android phones out there of a comparative nature, many people are buying Android.

When other tablets come out next year and the following years, then people will have the choice to buy other makes of tablet.

I just do not buy the Apple have got it perfect as people are buying them mentality. If there was something that more suited my needs I'd swap to it in a second. It's just as the moment, as I said above, there is no real quality option out there yet.

Give it 12 or 24 months and we many have a totally different picture.

A January ship date just doesn't feel right. Why would Apple release an upgrade so close after Christmas ? The iPad is one of the top items on everyones list, so they will sell a boat load of them. Why would they want to risk having all of those returns ?

If they do decide to do it, the 20% restocking fee would discourage most people from returning it. In this case, I don't believe there will be a price reduction. I could see it being the exact same price or maybe even slightly higher.

I keep my iPad in a case at all times (The official case) so the flat back doesn't mean much for me. The wide range speaker does sound like a good call. Hopefully its far louder than the current iPad speaker.

Apple doesn't give a sham about Christmas... (Except maybe for pre-Christmas sales). Maybe the dates are a bit off (or not) but that's got nothing to do with Christmas.

An Ipad Mini

The flat back is a welcome design. It fits in much nicer with protective folders.
I am waiting for an iPad mini. The fact that many tablets have been made at the 7 inch size indicates it's a popular shape. Apple should fill up the gap between the iPad, which will be as efficient as a laptop for certain people someday, and the iPod touch, which is limited in power and functionality due to its size. I prefer an apple with the power of OSX and a 6 to 7 inch iPad that can be held in one hand and powerful enough and comfortable for reading and other matters.

People who complain that Apple should do this and that have a very simple option:

DON'T BUY IT!

or better yet, make your own ipad with all of what YOU want in it!

Fact is: There is nothing like it on the market and it is clearly the best in it's field right now.

So, as Apple learns and gets more experience they make the product better and better. In the meantime, people who know nothing about the interior workings and engineering complain.

Same people put up their overdrawn expectations and then act upset and disappointed when they don't happen.

Downright funny.

PS: As for the loudspeaker covers. The stuff is not wire mesh. It's material similar to the metal in electric shavers. Solid thin metal with laser cut holes.
It would however bend if you push a fingernail or something in it.

I doubt the speaker would have a mesh design like that. That's not an Apple design these days. They would laser-drill holes directly in the case. I'd be very surprised if this mesh was used.

i agree with this. that speaker is fantasy
