This is great news. I just wish the iPad had more pixel density to it. While not bad by any means, you can see the pixels sometimes in text which is a little annoying.

I own both s nexus one and a 3GS. Read my post above...the nexus one screen isn't as good as everyone thinks. I'm not being biased or anything,..I bought the n1 because I rewlly think it's a nice phone..I personally am let down by the oled. Maybe super amoled will be better.

Also, you say that they should use the screens that are out now..(as in 800x480)?
If that's what you mean..then that would be a step backward because all current apps would look like crap if not rewritten for that resolution. That's not the case with 960x640. Read the damn article

I did read the article. And I stand by my statements until I have the phone in my hand and compare it to the Nexus one, Droid, Evo 4G. and even and old Iphone. I'll have all screen types and resolutions to compare to, and I have a feeling it will look comparable to all those phones except the 3GS. Why you think so many ppl are bitching about the resolution? THE SCREEN IS TO DAMN SMALL.

I think the actual screen is the same size. The density of pixels is doubled.

Correction, the density of pixels is quadrupled on a given area of the surface. It is doubled on each axis (vertical and horizontal).

This was a much needed improvement, if the new iPhone had had the old resolution, there's no way it could compete with Android phones that are now pushing these higher DPI screens which are much sharper.

Wait...so if we wanna use apps we have the now on our current phones there going to appear blurry/pixelated? And to get a nice sharp crisp lookin app we'll need to buy new apps with the HD title like ipad? That sucks! All the developers should be made to update their apps to the proper resolution of thr current iphone and if we decide to buy it then it should be compatible with both iphone/ipad! Its just getting confusing now :( and who wants to pay for two apps which are essentially the same app ? :(

Cue the anti-Apple fanatics to claim the resolution is "too high" for the human eye, after spending years complaining that the iPhone screen was too weak compared to other smart phones.

Sold, definitely sold.

The Moto Droid has been hailed as having an absolutely stunning screen sharpness due to the resolution. This is about 50% higher DPI than the Droid so we're good. :D

People that claim images look blurry unless they're in native resolution are talking out of their poonoonoo.

I play games at all resolutions, and besides the pixelation caused by no anti-aliasing and low resolution, there is NO blurring or anything like that. With AA all the way up, you'd never know it was at a lower res.

Reminds me of when people talk about how effective the 5.57mm NATO round is. When a commie takes one to the chest, I don't think they're going to care what caliber it was.

Then you really should not be reading a rumor site, should you?

The reason MacRumors exists is Apple's secrecy. If every product was announced in advance, there'd be no reason to be here, and I think that most people here like the rumours, not certainties.

These people take X-Rays of CPUs and COUNT the transistors, then they look at the iPhone screen under a microscope and count the pixels! That's commitment!

I think you'll find that all your old apps look exactly the same as they do now. The screen size didn't change, only the resolution according to this. The pixels you see now will be 4 pixels instead of 1. That means old apps will look exactly the same, while new apps can be made much sharper on this new model.

There is no confusion here, unless you're confused by things like "chocolate or vanilla" at the ice cream parlor.
