iPhone sells will suck if this is true.

I can see the "Funny" comments now. "I have the new iPod Touch and guess what unlike the phone you can hold it however you want"

I think the cameras make some sense but the Retina display shouldn't come with this update; What will attract new customers to get the phone? (And please don't reply "People will buy the Phone over the Touch because it's a phone"

Because people will buy the iPhone over the iPod because the iPhone is a ph- oh hohoho! You got me there!

Why aren't we allowed to say the main and obvious reason? It's my reason. I don't want an iPhone 4, and if they don't announce a fixed version I'll be switching to another brand when my contract runs out. I'd love a new iPod touch with all that fancy display tech from the iPhone but without being tied to a contract, and it'd make sense to keep a parity between the iPhone and iPod app markets.

Yep,and the flash memory for the hardware advanced iPod Touch started at 32G and have a 64G version compared to the 16G/32G iPhone 4. This is really the true space for some HD recording and apps running (man, a GPS app drains 1.5G memory, it is really not an application for a 16G phone).

My guess is:

229$ (or 199$) for a 8G iPod Touch with only front camera, no Retina Display (remember the white Macbook? It took a hell of time to upgrade to LED backlit)

299$ for a 32G iPod Touch with front and rear camera (but only 3.2M just like the 3GS), you got the Retina Display, gyro etc... but the memory is stuck to 256M rather than 512M

399$ for a 64G iPod Touch, you pay 100 bucks for another 32G of memory

if it doesn't ,who can justify my purchase of a 32G iPhone 4 last week?:mad::mad::apple::apple::apple::apple:

iPod Touch with 3G option?

Wouldn't be surprised if there's a 3G option on the iPod touch, much like they did with the iPad. Everything's in place with the iPad 3G susbscription plans, so why not? And a great alternative for anyone who for whatever reason doesn't want (or can't have) a full blown iPhone.

The Dell streak is marketed as a mini tablet, but in reality it is just another android phone. It is not a ipod touch competitor. It has a GSM radio.

At $550 the streak sounds pretty cheap for a smartphone. The 16 GB iphone outright and unlocked is just under USD$700 (converting from AUD ex GST).

But the streak is still a market failure. I think it is too small for a successful tablet, and as a phone, please. The only way you would feel more of a dick would be to put an ipad up against your head.

The "mini tablet" label is a lame attempt by Dell to find a niche in a market filled with better products. A mini tablet probably needs to be a bit bigger, as this isn't really big enough to overcome smartphone screen size limitations, but is too big to be used as a phone. It might be OK as a game device, hence the link to the ipod touch, but then why pay for al the telephony parts?

I believe in years past they wait until after the free iPod Touch with new Mac for students and teachers deal is over before the new Touch comes out.

The offer of a free iPod Touch for students buying a new iMac expires on September 7, 2010, so I'd guess that any new Touch model will be delayed until then.

Or they will not include the new ipods in the back to school promo.

Agreed 100%.

I see the 8GB being the 3rd generation with iOS 4 being added. much like they did with the 3Gs. So the base model will be last years model.

32 and 64GB models will have 512MB of ram (or apple will surprise us and make it 1GHZ) Front and rear cameras. Same res as the iPhone. Retna Display. that Gyro deal etc.

Agreed. I'd be happy to pay a bit for 3G touch access. My blackberry has internet, but its not that great.

The same thing as always. All previous iPod touch models have been extremely similar to the equivalent iPhone models, with the major exceptions being camera and phone capability. I assume you're not going to claim that people buy iPhones for the camera. So what's left? Go on, take a guess....

I'm going to guess:

Two Cameras...
Retina Display...
Same iPod Touch shape...

32GB - $249
64GB - $349

I can totally see this iPod Touch coming out.

Why?

1. Its due for a design upgrade anyway.

2. It makes sense, Steve Jobs, during the iPhone 4 presentation of FaceTime, said that Apple would ship "10's of millions FaceTime devices in 2010"

Makes it official to me.......:apple:

The iPhone 4 design is very desirable.

My hopes are a bit dimmed by the pictures of the "New iPod Touch".

Thats because the a camera was planed for the 3rd gen but was scrapped. The 3rd gen might have been the one to get a redesign but it kepted the 2ed gen design.

The camera on the touch may be have been a third gen prototype.

I would agree with that- but how do you know that they could have been thinking of a front facing camera a year and a half ago?

This guy is an idiot. I'm no Mac fanboy, don't own one, but Dell is a lousy competitor in the PC market; let alone the portable entertainment market.

You may be right, but he's an "idiot" that makes $5000 per week on sponsors for his RSS feed.

I can already hear the disappointed people when the Touch is announced.

Just look at the angry Touch forum post last September and that's what you will see again this year :).
