that would be nice. What about offering it in colors? (or just black, or black and white)

colors, assuming they fixed the white iphone problem.

I can already hear the disappointed people when the Touch is announced.

Just look at the angry Touch forum post last September and that's what you will see again this year :).

what post is that? Why would people be disapointed? why should you take what one person says?

This is exactly what I was hoping for when I chose to get the 16gb Iphone 4.

With my iPod all I care about is music, videos, gaming and surfing. I'm much harder on it as well. The beach, park, car, party etc. I want a lot of memory so I can consume all my media.

When it comes to me wanting a phone I want it to be able to function as a smart phone as long as it can. Phone calls, messaging, email are most important and playing games, listening to music and whatnot are secondary.

Maybe people with both iPhones and iPod Touches think the same way I do.

The 3G was pathetic. Basically only a processor and memory upgrade? Seriously? I bought one only because I wanted an iPod touch right away (I knew I'd be buying the 4G). It looks like the iPod touch 4G will actually be a good upgrade though, like the iPhone 4 was.

why everyone so excited over the retina display?
the current ipod screen is super clear and bright....looks hd when watching videos

I used to think the same way, but right now, any application can be memory killer -- a GPS app can eat 1.5G, one minute HD recording can take hundred of MB, a software upgrade can be 1G.... the 16G iPhone come with 13.8G of free memory, so you will easily find yourself with only 8G left after just installing apps that you must have.

This is the same amount of my iPod Touch 1G, and guess what? I only transfer (manually) 1/4 of my album collection with a very short 480*320 movie and about 50 photos... I understand the marketing strategy of AAPL by making the memory of iPod Touch bigger than the iPhone, but really, we need a 64G iPhone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Do whatever you can to cut the price down for a 64G single chip, plz!!!!!!!!:apple:

I saw a guy in class who had an iPhone 4 on the day of the final. I spent 30 seconds looking at the display... and knew I needed an iPod touch 4G. :p

when i was picking up my iPhone 4 on launch day in an O2 store i was playing with a Dell Streak while the sales assistant was on hold to their call centre to activiate my iP4.

Honestly, i have never seen such a crappy device. The screen is THE WORST i have ever seen on a mobile device. Slightly worse than my very old Archos 604, very cloudy.

The whole device is a big ugly lump, horrible. Oh, the OS seemed ok, hard to tell from 10 minutes of playing with it. Still, iPod/iPhone/iPad competitor it is not.

not possible, they don't make 64gb single chips yet ( or not for cheap)

highest densitiy single chip right now is the 32gb one in the iphone

Excellent. Means I have a good excuse for not buying the iPhone 4 yet. There has been an iPod touch 32 GB around for a couple of years now. The max storage of iPhone has been stuck on 32 GB for far too long. If Apple doesn't already have the 64 GB chips for iPhone, they will have them by the time they have gotten rid of all their 16 GB chips. Oh yes, Apple is eager to sell those out. A friend of mine stood in line for the iPhone 4. The store had 160+ iPhones but more than 95 % of them were 16 GB. Only the first 7 customers got 32 GB.

I don't care how long it will take till the iPhone gets 64 GB, there's no way I'll buy a new one until then.

Based on what ? Some bloggers and rumor sites ?

There is nothing that proves that the 4G will also not be pathetic. People are setting themselves up for a possible big disappointment this fall.

sorry, but this can't be true! has everyone forgotten about how apple treats the ipod touch? it first didn't have a loudspeaker and also no microphone input (not even via headset). then they added the speaker and micro via headset but "forgot" about camera. and now someone really think apple will add a microphone, a camera AND a frontfacing camera AND a retina display? ha, ha! this is a good joke...

the ipod touch is an ipod and a game console. it's competitor is the psp and the nintendo ds. if apple is not forced to add some functionallity, they won't.

Sad, but true...

The high density retina display is worlds better than any previous iThing display. Switching from my iPhone 4 to my iPad I feel like I've gone from the real world back to 8 bit graphics because the iPad's screen looks so blocky in comparison. It's what I like most about my iPhone 4.

next ipod touch with retina display and two cameras?

He declined to elaborate whether the statement about a new iPod touch was a result of inside information, or just reiteration of recent rumors and speculation regarding Apple's anticipated update.

Anyone think AT&T should be concerned about this. This is looking more like the "iphone with out the phone" than the touch has ever been. How many people who wanted iphones will stick with their basic phones and buy the touch for a much cheaper price? Seems like a lot more than ever...

I don't know whether to keep saving my money to get a Classic, or drop it all a new Touch.

Depends what you want. They are very different, but share one thing in common that they play music. I bought a Classic earlier this summer. I wanted a music player. I didn't want to be distracted with games, and internet, and apps, and all that jazz. I wanted a big fat storage drive in an iPod to hold anything and everything I throw at it. Something I can leave hooked to my stereo at home, leave hooked up in my car. I have all my daughters kids music on it too, so in a pinch, whether I'm home or in the car, I have it with me.

That said, I'm also getting a Touch, because I want all those cool distractions (apps, internet, games), I just don't want them in my primary music player, because if I did only have a Touch, I'd listen to music a LOT less, because I'd be playing around with it instead.

I doubt there will be a retina display. It costs 3X more to manufacture, and Apple deals with it by taking in some revenue from the data plan and 2 year contract. The iPod Touch would have to have a much faster A4 processor, more RAM, and a much higher price to have a Retina. Of course, it is entirely possible that Apple will include dual cameras.
