Funny, if you look at the apple website for the new MBP, see just how long it takes you to find an image that shows the keyboard! Or the touch pad! Almost all the images don't show either! What might that suggest???

Also, it's good to distinguish between apple being forced to move to new processors because the ones they are using are no longer available, (the trailing edge of the tech wave) and Apple not having to adopt new platforms/chips right away (the breaking edge of the wave) -- especially in the lower end models like the MB.

It took forever for the MB to get Santa Rosa, (just last Nov).

I hope the rumors are right and that Apple will keep up with Intel's new releases *across its lineup*, rather than just avoiding being left behind when it has to...

The top G4 is not a TiBook. Epic fail.

The MacBook Pro's case is only 2 years old. It will last at least another year, I'm sure.

NOT!

I have a 4 year old G4 PB that you would be hard pressed to tell the difference between it's case and the current mbp case. In fact, what is the difference. It looks identical to me. Only the mac pro has had it's current case design longer than the current mbp.

I doubt the current case will last the summer without a redesign.

Great..... here come all of the butt ugly mockups ;)

Nothing against the artist and their skill.... just the way they make they mockups so tacky. I mean... can it not look like a Frankenstein'ed iMac and MacBook Air?

I guess I'm in the same boat. I have an old TiPb but cannot edit HD video on it. Thank you, sleepingworker, for posting that link. The article does make me want to wait.

BTW, your paintings are remarkable.

Thanks for the kind feedback regarding the art. Macs have made so many things connected to my creative life easier.

mbp

It's obvious that MBP's design is getting old. And MB is the last plastic Mac which conradicts with the rest of the lineup.

But as I said earlier, Montevina will not force computer makers to redesign their existing computers as it's CPUs have the same thermal envelope with Santa Rosa's CPUs. (Both Penryn, 35W TDP) Just a new socket and new North/South bridges.

Just wait.... if Apple releases anything close that mockup, you'll be the first in line.

I agree with you ONLY if they give me the specs that are in my signature....

Just incase you turned that feature off:
- Dual 2.8GHz Processors
- Dual HDDs
- Dual FW800/3200 ports
- Built in 3G/WiMax (may just get the Express Card)
- 500GB HDD options for up to 1TB

p.s. and they don't make the bezel so FREAKING HUGE!

The MBP lineup is in need of a design update for other reasons. A much better keyboard, magnetic latch, larger track pad as multi-touch becomes the norm (MBA has a larger track pad than MBP), and maybe a slightly slimmer and lighter form factor.

This current form was wonderful in 2001 and even in 2003 when I bought my PB G4, but MBA upped the design bar.

can someone tell me wats all the fuss about with this so called centrino 2:confused:, i want (not need so dont gimme the buy it if need it b/s) to buy a MBP around this time, but had to think again when i see this thread, wats the upgrade likely gonna be, if its just gonne be a faster bus then i guess that wont be significantly faster right, but if the new mbp would include maybe a new graphic card for the same price, then i guess its worth the wait. give me your thoughts on this

You are absolutely right, my point is that Apple can keep the current design for Montevina. It's only if they want and if they have budget for, that they can make a new design for MBP.

I'm more interested in LED backlit 1920x1200 screen resolution low latency LCD also for the 15.4" model. And I also think that a Quadro-M based graphics processor would be nicer than standard GeForce-M.

I totally agree... function is just as important as form. If it doesn't get the job done, who cares if it looks good. This mockup is done under the assumption that the Apple geniuses could fit all of the power you listed inside.

I also made the bezel smaller, but I actually liked it better with the double bezel. This looks more PC-like IMO. Still very classy though.

First for people who say "Why are people thinking that Montevine is like jesus' coming back?"
(edited)
It actually is pretty important for Centrino brand.
The core logic of Intel Graphics X4500, which will debut with Montevina, is totally different than X3100 that Macbooks use now. It support DX10 and HDCP/HDMI, fully supports HD encoding, which will help Apple to start offering BD-R/BD/DVDR Combo drives soon.

I'm glad you're here. Some useful info.

I'll be ready to buy in September - I'm hoping ACDs come out some point before that, all disposable income before Sept will go on that, if so.

Better, but it's still a big bezel. Heck the one on my 6-year-old TiBook is narrower than that.

Thought I'd add my name down as a lover of that mockup who'd be in line to buy it up the first day it's out.

I'd really like the MacBook Air design to come to the MacBook Pro. I don't care if it gets any thinner. The MBA upped the ante on good looks, and the MBP can up it again ;) :D :apple:

Huh? If you click on the "Design" tab (the very first of all the tabs), there's a whopping image of both the keyboard and touchpad.
