LOL. How true!

BTW, MacBook, MacBook Pro and MacBook Air could all merge into:

11", 13", 15", 17" all 16:9, SSD, no Optical Drive, 4 GB RAM standard MacBook "whatever".

Yep. If the MBP gets thinner, loses the super drive and adds an SSD, then why not just make them the quad core 15" MacBook Air and the quad core 17" MacBook Air.

The SuperDrive has become a liability for many mobile professionals. It is not required for content creation, only content distribution. The space it occupies in the chassis would be better spent (in many peoples' opinion) on increased battery and/or storage capacity. I would guess most people who use SuperDrives do so at home or at work, where it would not be impractical to keep a $50-$70 SuperDrive peripheral. At this point, the SuperDrive is limiting many options for improving the MBPs mobility.

I use my SuperDrive all the time -- on airplanes, in hotel rooms, on different continents, etc., so some bulky external device would not work for me at all. An overpriced SSD drive also wouldn't work for me.

I love the current design of my late 2009 3.06 GHz 17" MBP (matte). Do not like the design of the Air at all with its weird, unbalanced tapered form. Also think Carbon would be much too expensive as a material and would look awful (like some Dell machine trying to be cool). Am overall very happy with the 17" unibody design -- hoping for something with maybe less rounded edges and even less of a bezel, and even less rounded outside top/bottom. Will buy next rev if it looks good.

hi guys, just joined the forum :D

i was about to buy the i7 13 inch macbook pro today but i decided to do a last min google search last night and i saw the news, now im like

really dont know if i should wait as my vaio has been going for 5 years 24/7 so its pretty much on its last breath now. i already waited for the new feb update so i dont know if its worth waiting now

Liquid-Metal...

Isn't the Liquid Metal 3 time stronger than steel? (I forgot in which aspect)...that could be a good reason.

A retina display for the MBP is impossible without jacking up the price to ****.
I'd rather have an IPS display (if that's possible).

Removal of SuperDrive?
I support that IF we get a free external SuperDrive (BD support please) and the extra space used to make the MBP better.

I suggest that if the MBP gets radically changed in its body enclosure, then it's internal/features get a huge update too.

Ivy Bridge CPU, even better GPU, more thunderbolt ports, (Bring back Expresscard?) and yea..

I doubt you will see another update until September/October, so I would suggest buying now if you need to. You can always wait longer with technology and get something better. You won't be disappointed going from a 5 year old computer to a new MBP.

What's up with the obsession of omitting the DVD drive?

People have finally come to accept that :apple: is not going to include a BluRay Drive anytime in the near future, or it would be more beneficial if there is an SSD+HDD hybrid option similar to the iMac (though the iMac has SSD+HDD+ODD). When physical and digital space is concerned people have to draw a line between reason and usefulness. :)

ISP laptop screen have been available for years. It just cost a little more and battery consumption issues.

A free external SuperDrive or BluRay Drive, this is :apple: they charge $30.USD for stupid adapters, I doubt this will happen. Though anything is possible since "Hell Froze Over" with the introduction of Mac OS X on intel. ;):D

I hope it's not too thin
my macbook air case always flexes and creaks which I attribute to it being how thin it is. the current macbook pros feel very solid. thinner would also make the battery smaller.
then again I think it'd be cool though if they made it taper like the macbook air too, maybe that would make it so the edges don't cut into your wrists

I'm plenty happy with my 2011 13" MBP, but just looking at the picture there, you'd have to say that the ethernet and FW800 are going to go. They will take away the optical drive (for which I'm glad to have bought the current model), increase the resolution on the monitor, and go solid state in a big way.

The ODD is useful, just not every freakin' day like the MagSafe or the USB ports. Same goes for the FireWire 800 port. In fact, I'd say that more people use the ODD than use the FireWire 800 port (hence why the white Unibody MacBook and the Late 2008 Aluminum MacBook don't have the FireWire 800 port, but do have the ODD). And really, if you take out either feature, you've lost my money. Really, people here either want the optical drive gone and have wanted it gone so that (a) the 15" and 17" MacBook Pros can have Quad-Core processors, (b) the 13" MacBook Pro can have a discrete GPU with the reclaimed room, and (c) so the damn thing can be even thinner and lighter (like they really need to be thinner and lighter), when really, removing the ODD will facilitate none of that. Sure, Apple's choice of slot-load drives are almost guaranteed to break. But that's about the only logical argument for their disappearance at this time. Oh yeah, that and people who read way too much into the "The MacBook Air is the future of MacBooks" quote and think that primarily means a computer without an optical drive. But then again, I've not really seen any speculation or "wish listing" on these forums that wasn't at least 90% based on these ridiculous notions.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPod; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_3_2 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8H7 Safari/6533.18.5)

It will be a little early for an update, but a new design announced at WWDC and available when Lion ships would be cool.

Probably going to buy a new one when it comes out then since the one I have is only a C2D.

Unless they do something stupid and remove the CD drive and make it SSD only. There's no way I'd buy that, I actually use the CD drive and honestly don't trust SSDs for anything but using it as a boot drive.

EDIT: I won't buy one if it comes out this year though. I wanna try to get as much as I can out of this with out it slowing down on me (Which I noticed it does when I'm trying to multitask)

I have to say I will wait :)))

I have a 2008 February Penryn MBP... I'm one of the lucky ones not to have any of the issues with the video card. This puppy has been running daily for 16+ hours, sometimes not being turned off for days as its my main computer.. Have a 24" LCD plugged in, keyboard mouse etc.

I wanted to buy a new macbook this summer, but this news will just allow me to wait for the new design... so really I skipped the UNIBODY design...

I just now hope my puppy will hold of that long :))

blu ray
air vents
NO INTEL GPU's

i'm ok with if they modify only those three

selection for a translucent backlit keyboard with black letters :) and a black colored body :D

Annoying!

I need a new one now and now I have to wait at least another year.

Damn it!

This is the case with almost all Apple products. You want to purchase Ipad and there's new ipad2 is coming witch camera, same thing with iphone and Macs. Interestingly keep on adding new features to the products. It'd be nice to hear more on the new Mcbook Pro.

Hey guys, first post here!

Is there an estimate of when this upgrade will be implemented? Are we talking back-to-school season (aka summer/fall 2011), or some time waaaay ahead?

I didn't read through the whole thread so this might have been asked several times. Apologies...

For me the thing with a new case is a little bit like something you never know what you get. The current one is very good. Lighter is always welcome and maybe they drop the ODD.

Great leap in hardware configs?

MacRumors has heard reliable confirmation that the next revision of Apple's MacBook Pro line will utilize a new case design for the first time in several years.

The possibility of a new case design was first revealed by iLounge in February just before the early 2011 MacBook Pros were released. iLounge described the most recent updates as the last "incremental" update before an all-new MacBook Pro design. The last time the MacBook Pro was redesigned was in late 2008 with the introduction of the unibody MacBook Pro. The unibody MacBook Pro design which remains in use today offers an iMac-inspired design with a black-bezel and aluminum unibody casing. Unfortunately, we have no specifics on what the next MacBook Pro might look like, though many have previously speculated that Apple will take cues from the MacBook Air line.

Hey,
I just wanted to ask one thing. Do you think, there could be a 'GREAT' leap to the hardware specifications too??

hmmm, like pain?

That's the point, it doesn't hurt at all to do that. So I really don't see where people are getting this "cut your wrists" from, cause it is far from doing that.

Maybe they have defective cases that have ragged edges or something. Mine's perfectly fine (as I said, I rest my wrists on it all the time and don't even notice).

And I've been known to get cut by cardboard boxes so don't attribute it to me being tough or something cause I'm so not (especially in winter cause my skin dries out so easily and I never remember to put on moisturizing lotion to prevent that).

You guys keep saying remove the optical drive, but keep in mind, this is a pro laptop, which should have all the features.
