So it will be a smaller iPhone, and 2 larger iphones with one being a "pro" model? Kind of odd how they are alienating the regular iPhone users. I've been looking forward to an OLED screen for a long time, always on display, power savings and much nicer lighting/contrast will be nice to have. I'm curious about the screen sizes as other rumors say they will keep the same physical size of the iphones, but increase the screen size. This report seems to go against that, or maybe it's the opposite and they reduce the physical size of the phone but keep the same screen sizes. I guess I'm ok with either, but would have preferred the same ip7 plus size but with edge to edge larger screen.

There won't be an LCD 5.5" iPhone... This rumour of a second "plus" iPhone is always fake. Remember when analysts claimed that only the "iPhone 7 Pro" will have a dual lens?

Doens’t seem that much of a mess.

4.7” LCD
5.5” LCD
5.5” OLED

The thing I find disapointing is the physical size of the device seemingly dictates the feature set, with the larger devices getting the better, more advanced features (dual lens camera, OLED).

Many people want high end features, but are not interested in a larger physical form factor.
An up-sell at every turn but since when does OLED cost more when every cheap *ss Android phone ships with it -only in Apple's world.

Thank you! I prefer the size of the 4.7" iPhone but would love to have an OLED display.

Yeah - this is a really disappointing trend.

OIS trickled down to the 4.7" this year, so was hoping the dual camera would trickle down next year.

Would love some optical zoom, but the plus is just too big for me.

That is just the "new" models. Add in the mid-range 7s and entry SE. That is a lot of very similar models with one or two deviations. Seems cluttered to me.

But also there is no model here representing the small or medium screen but high end features. It's go big or go home. Really an odd mix. Would make more sense if it was simply "good," and "best" then select desired screen size and storage.

I don't see the benefit of using two different display technologies. Are OLED displays really that much more expensive than LCD?

It's probably because they won't be able to produce that many OLEDs at first. The technology is still fairly young and no one produces yet in such large quantities at once. Likely the reason why we haven't seen them in iPhones yet, despite being available in other devices. At least Apple will be able to finally offer some customers a better display, if you're willing to pay a premium for it.

Yes. Mainly because it's still a relatively low-yield therefore pushing the price up because of demand outstripping supply.

First an article about non-removable SSD's and now an article about fragmented iPhones...
MR is just trolling. :p:D

Did the iPhone 7 plus pro ever get announced? I'm taking all these rumors with a grain of salt.

I completely agree.
I don't believe that they're planning an LCD & an OLED version of the 5.5".
With due respect to Ming, with over 10 months to a release date.... he has NOT THE FAINTEST IDEA EITHER!!!!
Apple is clearly not asking their suppliers if they can ramp up production of these parts to the tens of millions already, so the most he could really be going on is the fact that some small amount of samples have been produced in the 5.5" size.... using both technologies.
One could more logically assume that Apple is HOPING yields are good enough to do OLED in the larger phone, yet preparing an LCD alternative, should that not reach fruition..

That being said.... I have been comfortable with 4.7" for the last three years & think the "+" is a monstrosity, but if the 2017 5.5" iPhone (and I really hope that is the naming convention they land on! Keeping it consistent with how all their computers are named, and how all cars are named, etc.) can shrink to roughly the size of the 4.7" model, by eliminating bezels- I'll FINALLY jump on board! =)

Agree, the portability of the smaller size means it will fit in my front jeans pocket. Don't want to give that up. However, it would be nice to have the option of the dual lens camera, and OLED.

Next years model looks more like a Android version...

A huge mess with MacBooks, iPads and now iPhones... Maybe Tim and jony needs a long good vacation.

Haven't we heard this all before..? One 4.7" iPhone and two 5.5" iPhones, except that time it was one with a dual and one with a single camera..?

It's all a guessing game this early on.

Yep, this is the same mistake as last time. Mistaking various models in testing/validation for actual models that will be released.

Don't take this stuff as fact this far out. If it doesn't make sense, it's most likely because the rumors aren't quite true.

I liked Google's approach - besides battery life and screen size, the Pixels are essentially the same.

Yeah, tired of being bullied into the bigger size for no reason. OIS now is all of a sudden possible in the same size iPhone7 that supposedly wasn't possible in the iPhone6s (and they could have made it the same thickness as the iPhone6s Plus if that was an excuse).

Oh c'mon, no Dual Cameras on the 4.7"?

That's the fun of this game, what happened to the smart connector on the so called iPhone 7 Pro? But how to forget "Apple will not remove the headphone jack, that's stupid".

And my favourite: There's been no leaks of a 5.5" iPhone so it won't happen.
