Product Line-up is now a huge mess.

In fact, it's like how Apple was before Steve Job's return
More fragmented product lines. Great. Looking forward to seeing the price of the OLED models.....I'm guessing Apple will ensure it is affordable to the average Joe.

Yes but hardware fragmentation is much less of an issue. You buy the product with the features you want. Software works no matter what. So the fragmentation at the hardware level is well managed by Apple IMHO.

As you know, I am not interested in too-big phones, OLED, or dual cameras, so for me there is no fragmentation. There is only one - the 6, 6s, 7 - that form factor is where I am going to stay. Until mLED and then we will revisit the situation.
How did we go from me telling a joke to conversing about the degree of importance of software vs hardware fragmentation?

You buy the product with the features you want.
Sometimes you settle for the product you get even though it doesn't have all the features you want.

Tons of iPhone users want the features of the 5.5" in the 4.7". Someone wanting OLED or dual cameras in the 4.7" phone would probably argue Apple hasn't managed the hardware fragmentation very well at all. Perspective.:)

Ming-Chi Kuo is more accurate than anyone else on earth who makes predictions about Apple products.

That's why I'm disappointed to see that no 4-inch iPhone is mentioned in this prediction. This is disappointing considering that Kuo also predicted that the iPhone SE would not be updated next year.

He's very good, but still gets stuff wrong--he spent a lot of time guessing there'd be an iPhone 7 Pro and didn't quite grasp what the 13" MacBook Pro without Touch Bar would be. There's hope yet!

its a little sad that the non plus ones will lag behind I don't want a phone that big but I want the latest tech.... and I know I get it 2 cameras wont fit the smaller phone but I know OLED would :-(

Correct me if I'm mistaken, but I recall that he's been all over the place with his iPhone 7 sales predictions. First he said they'd be low. Then he said high. Now he says low again.

Frag your mentation. Yes your last point is well taken.

And as far as telling a joke, here's one for the season -

What's the difference between snowmen and snowladies? Snowballs. :D:p

I don't why the folks who want something more compact get a phone with less features. Furthering the chicken-feces philosophy of the current Apple Junta.

Apple, why fragment products like iPhone? Why do customers have to buy a bigger phone to get features?

Are you seriously wondering why you can't jam all the features of a larger object into a smaller object? Listen to how that sounds.

Do you understand physics? Features require space. Do you think it would be a good policy to restrict the larger phone to only contain feature that could fit in the smaller phone? Of course not. That would be idiotic.

See above.

Do you honestly think that the duel camera system wouldn't fit in the 4.7 phone? of course it would. They found space to put a bigger Taptic engine in there. A feature I'm sure hardly anybody would've cared about had it been omitted.

Its upsell nothing more, put most of the attractive new features in the bigger (read more expensive) iPhone in order to increase the average selling price of the phone.

Apple is becoming a Wall Streets bitch under Cook.

No, it's not. If this rumour comes true it is a mess, but even then it's not like the number of niche Macs that existed before Steve returned.

Do you think the executive team which was around for iMac, iPod, iPhone, iPad would really forget this most basic lesson?
Yes. There is no longer a tyrant at the he top demanding coherence and unity. So all these Alpha execs end up in their little silos and we end up with brand new iPhones that don't have a cable to connect to brand new MbPs.

I bet you were one of the people who said they couldn't put optical image stabilization in the smaller phone due to space restraints weren't you? :D

Funny they've found space for it now, despite a Taptic motor being added since the iPhone 6. Hmmm..

Certainly if EVERYTHING from a larger phone needed to be the same size in a smaller phone then yes, you are obviously correct. But a smaller phone does not require the same size internals (i.e. battery) and other features such as display technology (i.e. OLED) can be sized accordingly. So again, I ask why not let customers decide on phone size and NOT have the hard upsell based on screen size?

Very little difference in size between the camera modules on the 7/7plus. Could've made space for it in the smaller phone by not needlessly making the Taptic engine bigger, but then there would be much less reason to buy the more expensive Plus model.

Ya I am very disappointed that there is no mention of a new SE in the lineup. I love the SE and would love them to upgrade it. I will keep running my SE until then.

An OLED screen has nothing to do with space. How old are you? You like insulting people? What makes you so superior? "Do you understand physics? Features require space." Actually that's design and engineering. Supposedly Apple's long suit.
Yes, I expect great things. This is Apple, the purported leader in advanced design by their self aggrandizing dog and pony shows. Obviously the dual lens takes up more space. Look this is just a money grab by Apple. It's been their MO forever. Withhold features or offer options which force the consumer's hand to buy up. If you recall, the initial iPhone 6 didn't have optical image stabilization. It wasn't a space problem. It was a money grab.
The camera is an important feature on a phone. Apple makes a huge deal out of it. Maybe they should make it as great as their ads proclaim.

It looks like there is quite the debate going on about these OLED screens. If you need answers, just ask around on an Android forum! After all, we've had those kinds of screens for many years now!
