More fragmented product lines. Great. Looking forward to seeing the price of the OLED models.....I'm guessing Apple will ensure it is affordable to the average Joe.Product Line-up is now a huge mess.
In fact, it's like how Apple was before Steve Job's return
How did we go from me telling a joke to conversing about the degree of importance of software vs hardware fragmentation?Yes but hardware fragmentation is much less of an issue. You buy the product with the features you want. Software works no matter what. So the fragmentation at the hardware level is well managed by Apple IMHO.
As you know, I am not interested in too-big phones, OLED, or dual cameras, so for me there is no fragmentation. There is only one - the 6, 6s, 7 - that form factor is where I am going to stay. Until mLED and then we will revisit the situation.
Sometimes you settle for the product you get even though it doesn't have all the features you want. You buy the product with the features you want.
Ming-Chi Kuo is more accurate than anyone else on earth who makes predictions about Apple products.
That's why I'm disappointed to see that no 4-inch iPhone is mentioned in this prediction. This is disappointing considering that Kuo also predicted that the iPhone SE would not be updated next year.
Frag your mentation. Yes your last point is well taken. How did we go from me telling a joke to conversing about the degree of importance of software vs hardware fragmentation?

Tons of iPhone users want the features of the 5.5" in the 4.7". Someone wanting OLED or dual cameras in the 4.7" phone would probably argue Apple hasn't managed the hardware fragmentation very well at all. Perspective.![]()
There's nothing silly about basing a global, "sky is falling" indictment of Apple on a supply chain rumor made 6 months before production on iPhone 8 even starts. Nope.Product Line-up is now a huge mess.

Are you seriously wondering why you can't jam all the features of a larger object into a smaller object? Listen to how that sounds.I don't why the folks who want something more compact get a phone with less features. Furthering the chicken-feces philosophy of the current Apple Junta.
See above.Apple, why fragment products like iPhone? Why do customers have to buy a bigger phone to get features?
its a little sad that the non plus ones will lag behind I don't want a phone that big but I want the latest tech.... and I know I get it 2 cameras wont fit the smaller phone but I know OLED would :-(
Yes. There is no longer a tyrant at the he top demanding coherence and unity. So all these Alpha execs end up in their little silos and we end up with brand new iPhones that don't have a cable to connect to brand new MbPs.No, it's not. If this rumour comes true it is a mess, but even then it's not like the number of niche Macs that existed before Steve returned.
Do you think the executive team which was around for iMac, iPod, iPhone, iPad would really forget this most basic lesson?
Are you seriously wondering why you can't jam all the features of a larger object into a smaller object? Listen to how that sounds.
Do you understand physics? Features require space. Do you think it would be a good policy to restrict the larger phone to only contain feature that could fit in the smaller phone? Of course not. That would be idiotic.

See above.
Certainly if EVERYTHING from a larger phone needed to be the same size in a smaller phone then yes, you are obviously correct. But a smaller phone does not require the same size internals (i.e. battery) and other features such as display technology (i.e. OLED) can be sized accordingly. So again, I ask why not let customers decide on phone size and NOT have the hard upsell based on screen size? Are you seriously wondering why you can't jam all the features of a larger object into a smaller object? Listen to how that sounds.

I liked Google's approach - besides battery life and screen size, the Pixels are essentially the same.
