If this is true, no doubt oled come with a more premium price tag.

I can put it next to the $300 book of Apple product pictures Apple is selling.

*Sigh*
The nice jet black finish reserved for 128gb and higher. Of course they will reserve something nice like OLED to a more expensive iPhone.

All the peons can get matte black or our old colors. Ew.

No idea why people think this is so unlikely. The attempt to upsell people to the bigger more expensive phone has been going on since they introduced the plus models. The kind of nickel and diming that has become a hallmark of Cooks tenure.

We had the same thing with the Optical image stabilization when they first introduced the Plus and countless people defended it claiming it was plus exclusive due to space limitations on the smaller phone. Then they come up with the duel camera and the smaller phone gets the OIS hand me down.

Can't even imagine that its that effective. Nine out of every ten iPhones I see people using here in the UK are the 4.7 inch.

I know you are just joking, but it's not fair to call it iphone fragmentation. In android the problem is that APIs and features differ from one version of Android to another. And since the hardware from different vendors use different OS versions, the app developers either have to write multiple versions or code to the lowest common denominator. That is simply not true with Apple. Even multiple screen sizes is reasonably handled within Apple OS.
You're describing OS fragmentation vs hardware fragmentation. Those aren't the same thing. The iPhone's hardware is fragmented. If this highly dubious rumor were to come true, it would be even more fragmented. The OS is an entirely different subject altogether.

Already done that myself. Apples products have become so bad, I've switched over to a PC Hackintosh. There's really no reason to buy a Mac these days, they're all terrible and all terribly overpriced.

OS X is an Apple product your boycott isn't complete.

I really hope they'll consider a top end smaller phone.

We can still call it the iPhone Super Expensive

Fine by me - I just want as close to flagship specs as possible in a small device.

It's not a price thing whatsoever (for me), I simply don't want to (and won't) carry around a patio paver just to get the top end specs (or at least most of them)

These trio of iPhone 8 and iPad Pro 2s that have been predicted are perplexing to me. What's the point - its a huge mess of a lineup. A 5 and 5.8-inch iP8 both with curved glass displays would make FAR more sense. Unless they intend to release the iPhone 7s and iPhone 8 side by side.

Hopefully the report is false. 3 models and only one with an OLED screen? Let me guess, it will be $200 more than the 4.7 inch LCD screen, and $100 more than the 5.5 inch LCD screen. If this report turns out to be true, we are seeing the end of Apple. The Apple iPhone with OLED screen will be getting close to what a 55 inch OLED tv costs.

Simple:

iPhone 7S
iPhone 7S Plus
iPhone Pro – only this will have an edge-to-edge OLED display. This will also be the "10th Anniversary iPhone", with a hefty premium over the 7S models.

In 2018, iPhone 8 in 4.7" (or 5") will adopt the form-factor & OLED display of the 2017 10th Anniversary iPhone Pro.

I also hope it's false - But the narrative of the story perfectly fits Bean Counter Tim's vision of endless SKU's and upgrade points.

It's just horrifying to see Apple turn into a high end nickel and dime operation.

I'm honestly getting a bit depressed about the track over the last few years as I don't know where/what I'd switch to (desktop or mobile).

:(

I cant help but say this "Apple seems to have lost the plot after Steve..."
If making money hand over fist is losing the plot

$2000 for an AMOLED screen? Heck, you can get a Samsung for less than $1000 with an AMOLED screen.
You can get a phone with an amoled screen for $150, but it doesn't say apple on it.

I have to say I'd be first in line for an iPhone 8 Premium Pro model.
I don't know about first in line but I would get one.

as there's no need for two 13" macbooks, or two 9,7" ipads.

No there isn't. Its called grasping at straws.
Sure selling an older model at a discount along with a newer one makes sense. But no, and especially for on a phone. It is not happening.
He's throwing spaghetti at the wall. He has nothing.

That's a grey area considering you can't really buy it as it comes with Apple computers. In either case, Apple's not getting a dime from me for a very long time. Their disgusting treatment of consumers has finally put me over the edge.

I'm sure someone at Apple "leaks" this info out long before mass production, just to see how people react. If it's negative, they adapt.

It's probably because they won't be able to produce that many OLEDs at first. The technology is still fairly young and no one produces yet in such large quantities at once. Likely the reason why we haven't seen them in iPhones yet, despite being available in other devices. At least Apple will be able to finally offer some customers a better display, if you're willing to pay a premium for it.
Its not that young. It was used in the Nexus One released in 2016, which would be 7 years from the next iPhone release. I feel like it should be way more widespread by this point.

Way too many models and options going on with Apple and iPhones in particular. Go back to the old days, well closer to the old days.

2 phones, 2 colors = Black/White, Regular/Plus. And 2 memory options max: 128/256.

It's ridiculous that Apple can't compete on the OLED front like the other competitive brand has now for a few years.
Apple cannot release an oled display inferior to Samsung and get away with it. Other manufacturers can.

It's pretty much guaranteed which model will sell out first, shipping estimates will probably fall into weeks if not months.

Yes but hardware fragmentation is much less of an issue. You buy the product with the features you want. Software works no matter what. So the fragmentation at the hardware level is well managed by Apple IMHO.

As you know, I am not interested in too-big phones, OLED, or dual cameras, so for me there is no fragmentation. There is only one - the 6, 6s, 7 - that form factor is where I am going to stay. Until mLED and then we will revisit the situation.

The Samsung S7 OLED screen is not an inferior screen. It's vastly better than Apple's LCD screens. No reason to make their OLED screen better, just equal. In fact, I would bet the S8 OLED screen will be better than the S7. Apple's issue will not be the screen, but a battery capable of powering an OLED screen. Samsung will likely come out with a 4K OLED screen. Apple will be lucky to have a 2K screen.

This is precisely my point
