Dual stack oped's are new cutting edge tech, not even out yet!
Allegedly much brighter peak brightness and last much longer, so it's like comparing apples & oranges
I can’t see a difference between Apples 32”XDR display and a regular 27” iMac LCD panel.

They look identical to me.

If this is true, I think Apple will make it optional along with mini-LED versions because the market for pricing that high is simply not there. Plenty of you will argue that Apple will still sell them and they will, but nowhere near the volume they want to sell them.

Except APPLE PRICES have stayed the same for the last 4 years, despite huge inflation! apart from the exchange rates affecting Europe
You must be in the US where prices have been more stable.

There wasn’t crazy inflation and the pound was much stronger than the dollar back in 2017 when they jacked up prices in the UK 40% can’t blame either of those two factors for that.

To sum things up:
+200$ for oled screen translate to +700$ for the iPad…
And the 11’’ would almost double in price…

It seems unlikely to me at this point.

The current 12.9 2TB is already $2500. Looking at high $3000s. Unless iPad starts running MacOS, my current M2 12.9 2TB may be the last for me. At least with those specs. And even then, anything with less specs will still be too expensive for what you are getting.

But...rumor. So who knows.

This will drive up the price of used iPads for sure. Our iPad Airs do all we need, I guess I'll be holding on to them for a while.
Seriously. Hell, I can't think of any real reason why I'd upgrade from my 4th gen air anytime soon, which is an A14 and lacks the M1 and the extras and speed that enables. Make iPads able to run MacOS fully and I would have a reason, until then even the A14 is a bit overpowered for most of what I use my iPad for, and mostly the limiting factor I run into on some things is RAM and not often, the M2 or M3 is complete overkill. Why would someone pay $1500 for the same capabilities the air has? OLED aint enough to justify that bump.

If they want to charge that then they need to do something drastic with the OS

I hope they do. The 11" iPad Pro with Magic Keyboard is such a nice form factor. Maybe the nicest form factor. All that power and battery life in such a tiny package. A bigger screen than the Nintendo Switch and Steam Deck, much more powerful, much more capable, and yet there is such an astounding lack of good software and games to run on it.

If my iPad Pro could actually run the kind of games and apps I wish it could, I'd spec it out to 1TB and go all in on it. And I'd pay the rumoured price increase, too.

We need to HOLD and not buy at that price! if people buy then Apple will think that is acceptable!! and that will be the new price for the future.

What now you want Apple to give you devices for free? Everything has a price and if there's a market for so be it.

I'm rich and can afford it, leave us alone the plebs.

They will sell plenty no worries. Not everyone lives in Bangladesh or South Sudan with 1$ per day...

Please stop insulting us rich folks, we will definitely spend the bucks for OLED. It will look great in my toilets.

For that price it at least needs an M3 Pro, 32GB RAM, 1TB SSD, and be able to run macOS when docked or connected to a mouse and keyboard.

Something tells me this is one of those confused rumors. I think they might actually be talking about that rumored all-screen MacBook Pro-like thing, which might also be able to be used like an iPad when folded over?

Does mac rumor just print any random bullsht nowdays? anyone with slight common sense knows apple will not gap up the iPad price by 80% to $1500 over an incremental improved screen. This is a nonsense article designed only for views/clicks. Shame on whoever wrote this crap

Comparing Samsung phones and tablets to iPads I see next to zero difference in terms of screen quality. If I was pushed to choose I would probably say the Samsung Ultra S23 has the better display from when I compares them in store.
I HAVE those tablets. I’m not guessing on this stuff. The OLED panels on the Samsung tablets are quite dim. Sure the picture looks great since it’s an OLED, but Apple rejected those old, cheap panels because they’re not bright enough. I put my brightness slider up to just under the red zone and it’s still quite dim. Put them side by side and you’ll see an enormous difference in brightness, and that is why Apple is likely to use these new double stacked panels.

You’d be right if they just used the same OLED panels as everyone else. They probably wouldn’t need to up the price at all since those have been produced for years. These are new panels, never used before in consumer electronics. Apple has two criteria for display quality: real brightness so they can advertise as HDR (they consider HDR400 to be fake HDR), and high contrast. Right now, only those prospective panels meet those criteria. The ideal would be microLED, but that is still years away from being consumer friendly, which are essentially self-emissive LED panels that can be made as bright as we want since their inorganic material isn‘t susceptible to burn-in. When the first microLED consumer screens come out, you can bet those will be pretty pricey, too.

That would really suck. I have been looking forward to OLED iPads for years. I wouldn't feel comfortable spending that much, even though I can just about afford it. I'd be constantly worried about dropping or losing it.

Apples crappy anti consumer actions have been going on for at least 5 years now.

Purposely gimping products to fit into artificial price structures.

Hopefully people are finally waking up and they see a massive sales dip in the billions.
I woke up to it in the last few months. But that doesn't change that I was caught up in the M1 iPad Pro fervor and spent $1700 on the hope (reasonable expectation?) they were finally going to do something interesting with iPadOS.

Almost 2 years later this M1 iPad isn't accomplishing a single thing more than the iPad 6 it replaced. It's just doing it faster and with 5G cellular.

it's been years since they've started trying so hard to convince us that the ipad is a laptop replacement and they have FAILED. imagine spending that much for a tablet 🤣 but again people spend that much on iphones and tablets will last way longer so you do you.

We used to have 5 iPads in the house, now down to two. Once these are gone maybe one.

Apple has failed to make it useful enough to be a daily driver for most of us ... driving its cost beyond even further from what is already a high price. And the ones that still invest in it have options that are also very interesting once the novelty is gone. Except from probably, sketching, video and photo editing, the app ecossystem lacks depth and quality … within what is yet a narrow use case. Pair this with high price, the iPad OS demise is inevitable. Maybe it opens the road for a touch / ink enabled macOS in a decade or so.

This failure is mostly down to TC commercial approach obsessed with $$$$$$ above and beyond any ones imagination rather than taking us to the future like Steve used to dream about. Its a feat indeed, I grant you that. His latest innovation was launching a display at approximately the same price of a full computer and the same display in the year before. Not to mention the fact that once we used to pay $800 for a top of the line iPhone and now my friends ... $2300. Amazing indeed. And so here we are, still mainly with the Steve Jobs Macs and iPhones after a decade and a half ... now bundled with showbiz.

How are closed models, yes with TC is way more closed than it was with SJ, are better its customers?
