Those prices are either for macOS enabled iPads with 16GB/512GB Macbook Pro-like base config or Apple have lost their sense of reality for real this time.
If they do release iPad-Book device, they would probably keep current design 11 and 12.9 iPads alive for lower priced Pro models imho.

I dread to imagine how much Surface Book-like keyboard base could cost in such case, given how overpriced is Magic Keyboard for current iPads.

Calling BS on this rumor. Where does one even come up with insane price estimates like this?! When has Apple EVER doubled the price of an existing product moving to a new generation. Even the 14” and 16” MacBook Pro stayed relatively within the same price bracket as the models they replaced while also offering a mini LED screen, new chips, new design and countless other upgrades inside and out.

That being said OLED does cost more to manufacture, especially with Apples layered process. My guess is:

11” gets bumped up to - $899

12.9” gets bumped up to - $1199

Apple Pencil 3 - $150-$200 (depending on capabilities)

A $100-$150 price bump is typical of Apple while keeping both devices marketable to their current user base. $1500 for an 11” makes zero sense.

Edit: However these prices DO make sense if we are talking about a future foldable iPad Pro.

The only way that charging $1500 would be justified is if they included the Apple Pencil, Magic Keyboard, folio keyboard and dual charging USB-C plug.

For the iPad itself storage would need to start with 1TB standard and have the M3 with 16GB RAM.

Agreed, for that price it had better be loaded! 🤠

I love my iPad Pro 12.9" M1. But man-o-man at the projected/rumored pricing I'd go back to a laptop when I need a new device. I am assuming there will only be one version with OLED, and Apple will indicate love it or lose it (your iPad).
The same rumors are predicting the Apple laptops will also move to this same OLED screen in 2024, so you’d be out of luck. Those screens are even bigger and would cost more.

Apple's 2024 OLED iPad Pro models could be vastly more expensive than its existing iPad Pros and even more costly than some MacBook Pros currently on sale, claims a new Korean report.

iPad-Pro-OLED-Feature-2.jpg

According to industry sources cited by The Elec, Apple is already considering its pricing strategy for next year's two OLED iPad Pro models, with current estimates starting at $1,500 and $1,800 for the 11-inch and 13-inch models, respectively.

That would make the 11-inch device over 80 percent more expensive than the existing 11-inch ‌iPad Pro‌ with LED Liquid Retina display, which starts at $799, and the 13-inch model over 60% more expensive than the current 12.9-inch ‌iPad Pro‌ with mini-LED Liquid Retina XDR display, which starts at $1,099.

The OLED price estimates even eclipse the price of some MacBook Pro models currently on sale. For example, the 13.6-inch MacBook Air with M2 chip starts at $1,199, while the 13-inch MacBook Pro with M2 chip starts at $1,299.

According to the Korean-language report, the industry response to the price hikes is divided: Some consider them a reasonable increase given the switch to superior OLED technology that will attract Apple's loyal customer base, while others believe the prices will make it difficult to maintain sales because iPads lack the replacement demand of iPhones.

The main reason for the increases is said to be the large proportion of material costs taken up by OLED panel procurement. Apple is currently believed to be in discussion with Samsung and LG Display about the price of supplying the panels, the specifications for which will require the use of production processes that have not been combined before for OLED panels of the required size.

According to The Elec, the supply price of OLED panels for existing 10-inch devices is around $100 to $150, whereas the outlay for the processes involved in making Apple's required 11-inch and 13-inch panels may be closer to $270 and $350, respectively.

The report notes that current OLED iPad Pro price estimates from the industry could change in the future. The OLED panels scheduled to be delivered by LG and Samsung are still in the development stage, so the panel prices have not been finalized.

Still, there are reportedly concerns among panel suppliers Samsung, LG, and BOE about how Apple's OLED iPad Pro prices and shipment forecasts could negatively affect profits and production line investment. Samsung is set to invest in eighth-generation OLED production lines, which should "theoretically" result in lower-costing panels, but they have already been earmarked for Apple's future OLED MacBooks, which are also expected to debut in 2024.

I hear the death knell of the Ipad if these price hikes occur.
The reality is that they aren;t too much more than a large Iphone in functionality. It might be a little different if they were the equivalent of a touch screen Mac, but doubt that will ever happen. Mac sales may be the benefactor of any Ipad increase.

People: “we want iPadOS to be more like macOS”

Apple: *makes the macOS more like iPadOS*

This has always bugged me. I used to prefer desktop Pages over Word back in the day. Ever since they “updated” it to function like the iPad version, it hasn’t been the same.

They simply can't be that dumb. Sales will crater. They will forcibly introduce many people needing a tablet to android, and that will hurt phone sales as well.

Like I said, they simply can't be that dumb.

I love my iPad, but at $1800 (read £1800 in the UK) + pen and KB = £2300+, this would have to be freaking amazing. Every single complaint gone with current OS and apps, fully functioning laptop replacement.

No, they’re not. I own both a Galaxy Tab S7+ and an S8 Ultra. Both have OLED screens but both are quite dim, maxing out at 400 nits, maybe less. Samsung does not use double stacked OLED panels on any of their phones or tablets, nor any other device they make. Apple designs the screens. Samsung makes them. They are Apple screens done to Apple specifications. It’s just like an A-series or M-series SoC. Apple designs them, but TSMC makes them. TSMC does not design chips, but creates manufacturing processes. The same goes with these double stacked OLED panels Apple plans to use.

No OLED device that currently exists in the market with the size of an iPad has that kind of brightness that can be obtained by the double stack design. You look at any laptop or tablet with OLED currently, and you’ll find a very dim screen. Apple could use the same displays Samsung does on their tablets, but they’d also be very dim. That’s why Apple went mini-LED. Apple rejected panels like the ones on the Galaxy Tabs. But when Samsung Display created a double stack process, Apple became interested because they’d have the visual quality of OLED with the brightness of mini-LED.

Keep in mind Samsung has multiple divisions. Samsung Display manufactures the screens while Samsung Electronics makes the devices. They operate as almost entirely different companies with Samsung Electronics buying the displays from Samsung Display.
Comparing Samsung phones and tablets to iPads I see next to zero difference in terms of screen quality. If I was pushed to choose I would probably say the Samsung Ultra S23 has the better display from when I compares them in store.

Hard pass. I'm not paying those prices for a freaking tablet. Apple is getting way out of hand on their pricing models and it's really turning me off to Apple in general.

This would only make sense if these OLED iPads were a separate category of "iPad Ultra". I can totally a new, more expensive tier of product. But they won't increase the price that much on the "iPad Pro".

Their price reach is insane. Even if this rumor isn’t true, the fact that it’s believable is the key.

I hopped onto apple in 2014, became a big supporter, but the last few years they’ve eroded my loyalty so much I’m indifferent now.

My 2018 11" iPad Pro with that killer A12x processor keeps right on humming along.
