Extremely skeptical of this reporting. Retail pricing is going to be very closely held information, people observing the supply chain aren't going to know about it.

Simple - OLED will debut in iPad Ultra.

Pro retains continuity of features and price point, while Ultra gains new screen and other tech, along with eye-watering price, just like Watch.

Everyone is correct: OLED will cost significantly more, but also: iPad Pro will NOT cost 50% more. Because OLED will be offered in an Ultra model, not Pro.

Plenty examples of rumors about features discussed in terms of existing models that ultimately arrived in all-new models - iPhone X, Watch Ultra, Mac Studio, etc. Confusion and controversy should be taken as indicators of shifts between models, not within models.

Apple's 2024 OLED iPad Pro models could be vastly more expensive than its existing iPad Pros and even more costly than some MacBook Pros currently on sale, claims a new Korean report.

According to industry sources cited by The Elec, Apple is already considering its pricing strategy for next year's two OLED iPad Pro models, with current estimates starting at $1,500 and $1,800 for the 11-inch and 13-inch models, respectively.

That would make the 11-inch device over 80 percent more expensive than the existing 11-inch ‌iPad Pro‌ with LED Liquid Retina display, which starts at $799, and the 13-inch model over 60% more expensive than the current 12.9-inch ‌iPad Pro‌ with mini-LED Liquid Retina XDR display, which starts at $1,099.

The OLED price estimates even eclipse the price of some MacBook Pro models currently on sale. For example, the 13.6-inch MacBook Air with M2 chip starts at $1,199, while the 13-inch MacBook Pro with M2 chip starts at $1,299.

According to the Korean-language report, the industry response to the price hikes is divided: Some consider them a reasonable increase given the switch to superior OLED technology that will attract Apple's loyal customer base, while others believe the prices will make it difficult to maintain sales because iPads lack the replacement demand of iPhones.

The main reason for the increases is said to be the large proportion of material costs taken up by OLED panel procurement. Apple is currently believed to be in discussion with Samsung and LG Display about the price of supplying the panels, the specifications for which will require the use of production processes that have not been combined before for OLED panels of the required size.

According to The Elec, the supply price of OLED panels for existing 10-inch devices is around $100 to $150, whereas the outlay for the processes involved in making Apple's required 11-inch and 13-inch panels may be closer to $270 and $350, respectively.

The report notes that current OLED iPad Pro price estimates from the industry could change in the future. The OLED panels scheduled to be delivered by LG and Samsung are still in the development stage, so the panel prices have not been finalized.

Still, there are reportedly concerns among panel suppliers Samsung, LG, and BOE about how Apple's OLED iPad Pro prices and shipment forecasts could negatively affect profits and production line investment. Samsung is set to invest in eighth-generation OLED production lines, which should "theoretically" result in lower-costing panels, but they have already been earmarked for Apple's future OLED MacBooks, which are also expected to debut in 2024.

Nothing wrong with the Mini LED displays, not sure why Apple are trying to fix, something that is not broken and charge more for it?
They've already seen orders decline, because of price rises outside of US

The rising cost is why I believe Apple will be launching the Apple hardware subscription.

OLED is definitely going to be thing in the future for all Apple products. MacBooks included. Expect MacBook Pros to start at $2500 and up to $10,000.

I will say this though. Prices of components to get cheaper over time. I’d rather buy the 2028 iPad Pro over the 2024 iPad Pro.

If Apple is really considering launching the Apple hardware subscription model then Apple should not stick with yearly releases anymore. Definitely keep the Macs line up away!

The yearly releases should only be applied to iPhone, and Apple Watch maybe Airpods or so.

Agreed. Macs (certain models) are on an ~18-month cycle. Slightly over a year between updates. Same with iPad.

Once the MacPro launches, I can see Apple slowing down.

Whatever the advantages OLED offers, it doesn't sound like they're worth it. Hopefully Samsung or whoever supplies the panels can figure out a way to lower the production cost.

The iPad is THE product that has plateau'ed the most in Apple's entire lineup since 2018. They'll never be able to pull off a 60%-80% increase and get away with it. Never.

And everybody at Apple knows it or they deserve to be ousted. This report is absolute bull*.
Alternatively, they've leaked these increases, so that when the actual increases of between $150 - $200 come out, people will think they're getting a bargain 🤣
I'm not an iPad user, however I would probably pay $200 extra for the dual stack Oled tech

OLED has been around for over a decade. If anything prices for panels should be drastically falling.

Apple really are a bunch of idiots.
Dual stack oped's are new cutting edge tech, not even out yet!
Allegedly much brighter peak brightness and last much longer, so it's like comparing apples & oranges

I don’t see the value in switching to OLED. I’m totally happy with my mini LED M1 version and the only thing I’d like to see happen with iPad Pro is getting battery life up to 14-16 hours. That’s not going to happen with the use of OLED panels.
It actually might increase battery life, because the new tech Oled's will use 30% less power, be a lot brighter than current Oled's and last up to twice as long.....however, chill out, these leaks are simply designed, to make people think they're getting a bargain, when the actual prices rise by $150-$200 😊

Wow that’s quite a price hike feels almost violent. Guess I’m sticking with my m1. I’m also assuming the 1800 is a 128gb ipad pro 13 lol.

That seems way too high. I just understand the benefit of Oled. Is it that much brighter and vivid than the current iPad Pro models? Will battery life be better if kept at full brightness, etc…?
I suspect if Apple gave customers a choice between Mini LED at current prices and the new Oled tech at $300 + more, they would sell very few Oled's

Samsung's high-end tablets have OLED and don't cost that much.

It seems crazy to me the prices Apple is going to. In the US, they have kept prices already high, but in Europe prices are bordering on absurd levels.
Totally different Oled tech in the Samsung devices currently....just to keep it factual

This is probably the price for a BTO with OLED and other perks like more disk and memory. But besides that, iPads are already overpriced for what is essentially a simple consumption device. iPadOS is a joke. Good thing the EU is going to open the App Store market so we can install some emulators, virtual machines and some real pro tools.

No thanks.

If that's the case I'll use my current iPad Pro until it breaks and I won't buy another iPad.

It's not that I don't have the money but I just don't think it's worth it or get good value anymore. Apple are straight up ripping everyone off and are trying to see how far they can go. It's been this way for years of course but it's getting worse every year.

Already seriously considering not buying another iPhone. Apple shouldn't be allowed to get away with this but you'll always get the hardcore fanboys buying anything they push out no matter the price.

The bubble is going to burst at some point. Already people with a lot of disposable money are turning against Apple. Even schools/colleges are moving away from Apple because of the extortionate prices. It'll eventually just be for the rich.

It's pure greed from Apple. Disgusting.
If you're right?
Apple products, will become exclusive again, which was always their aim.
However This rumour is ridiculous and way off the mark, unless they give a MacOS option as well on the new iPad's.
Ultimately, you get what you pay for, I can't afford cheap products 😊

It is and was always meant to be a simple consumption devise and a pro tool for drawing artists.
The Pro's are too expensive for sure, however;
Side loading will never be a good thing, if those apps aren't available now, they won't be available if the App Store is deregulated, they're not available because the demand is niche now and will be in the future!
I can also guarantee most Apple users will stick with the secure apps from the App Store 😊

iPhone 7 Plus to iPhone X was around a 40% increase in the UK jumping from £819 to £1149. Percentage increase would be even higher if you based it on the regular sized iPhone 7.

This was the starting point for Apples current drive for higher and higher prices.
Except APPLE PRICES have stayed the same for the last 4 years, despite huge inflation! apart from the exchange rates affecting Europe

Give that there's only a handful of users (e.g. Mac Pro levels of customers) who use their iPads as workhorses I could see this happening, and Apple keeping their stocks low. I'm STUNNED at how good the XDR looks on the iPad Pro, and that screen alone makes me want to upgrade from my 2018 ....

BUT .....

Even with DaVinci coming to the iPad and M2 chips and extended display, etc. iPadOS still remains a the weakest link. I don't need Finder, but having a better file system and full fledged apps (e.g. iTunes with smart playlist editing and creation) would make dropping $2000 on an iPad a little easier.

Apple is SO VERY CLOSER to making the iPad Pro a standalone, sole device for many users, but I am sure some still find themselves jumping over to a Mac for more extensive tasks.

Wrong. The same system that caused this won’t be the one that fixes it. Socialism guarantees we all end up equally impoverished. You need the wealthy, they aren’t the enemy.
Generally you're right, however the energy conglomerates have just taken a disgraceful advantage of the failed policy's pushed by the greens and the pandemic!

Well, guess my 2018 iPad Pro is going for another year then.

Truly a beast of an iPad.

Right there with ya!

...

Oh wait, my bad. I'm still rocking the 2nd generation 11" Pro (2017). Yikes!
6 years already? And to think I used to upgrade my iOS stuff every dang year.
And if this OLED iPad is that absurdly priced... it'll be another year. haha!
