I sort of had similar problems but with my iPhone s4. Constant sim problems. Was working great in the Nexus4 but not in the iPhone.
I ended up asking them for a new sim and the problem went away.

This might not have anything to do related to your problems but sometimes it might not be the phone itself.

Are you using an Sim adapter with the Nexus 4? The Nexus 4 uses a MicroSim and the iPhone5 a NanoSim and since you didn't have problems swapping between the iPhone4s and Gnex I would think it might have something to do with it.

I'm a Nexus 4 and iPhone 5 user. I love both phones, but I'm having issues with my Nexus 4. I would use my iPhone 5's sim which is a AT&T LTE SIM card in my Nexus 4. Right out of the box I had to change the APN settings to get the data and MMS working properly. Once I got text and data to work, I wasn't able to send or receive a text with a picture. It would just say sending. While I was going to make the exception, the bars would go grey. It show'd full bars but I couldn't get data. Calls only. Like the radio was disabled. I knew if I was to go to AT&T and let them know, they would most likely want to change my data or switch to a non-iPhone data plan. I'm very frustrated and want to use my Nexus 4, but I guess I'm having to go back to my iPhone 5 for now. I had the galaxy nexus and switched my sim from my iPhone 4S to the GNex all the time and had no problem. I don't know the deal. If anyone has the same issue, I would like you to chime in.

What's funny is that both representatives that I've spoken with with two separate Nexus 4's could hear the choppiness. The second rep said there's been a few cases of this issue and it's always been hardware because they came from a variety of different services. I, myself, have also tested my other family lines on the same network with no choppiness or call quality issues, so I know it's not T-Mobile.

Third time's the charm, they say...

When I bought my N7 I received two defective units in a row - both with the screen adhesive issue where the glass would lift away from the casing. The second one wasn't as bad so I simply kept it until I decided to sell it away...

Just confirming 2 defective units in a row is quite possible.....getting a third would be pretty nuts though. Hope it works out!

Hope so too. 4.2.2 finally solved the battery issue. Now I just need calls to stop being so choppy. I've tried everything, testing the network, going to Tmobile to switch my SIM card (also did this twice), and it all points back to the hardware.

And since Google themselves, on two occasions, have insisted it's hardware, too, I'm willing to give it a third, and final, shot.

4.2.2 MOSTLY solved the battery issue....I'm convinced the problem still exists though just to a lesser degree....

I agree that it HAS to be a hardware issue - I'm on AT&T and haven't had any call quality issues....really the only issue with the phone has been the battery life, which is now good enough for me to make it through a day.

I'll be interested to see the GS4 though....have an upgrade available in September that I may use for it.....I like to upgrade my iPhone every 2 years and will likely use my second upgrade (due next June) on the iPhone 6

Yeah, it ain't no Galaxy Nexus GSM. That thing lasted forever.

I, too, agree the battery life is only marginally better.

It has to do with the wireless antenna....

For whatever reason, the chip spends more time awake than it should when searching for a signal....from what I've read, this was an issue in both the data and WiFi chips (read: software side) but 4.2.2 fixed the WiFi part.....

If you have Better Battery Stats, check the "msm_hsic_host" kernel wakelock....because I'm away from wifi most of the day this wakelock runs upwards of 12% and higher....I'd like to test to see where it falls when on wifi for the whole day....

Read this stuff on XDA by the way.....interesting to note. Could mean KLP could bring significantly improved battery life as well if they figure out how to fix it.

There were rumors that Google was working on a sort of "Project Butter" for battery life. Meaning, what Project Butter did for responsiveness and smoothness in Android, this "Project whatever" would do for battery life.

I think it was debunked, but I hope there's some shred of truth to that in KLP.

All they have to do is fix this software bug that's causing the antenna to stay awake for too long....make it more efficient.

Then again, what should we really expect from a $299/$350 smartphone? It's already well built, very powerful and has a pretty nice screen (I prefer the IPS LCD over AMOLED, though the N4 doesn't have the pop or brightness my iP5 does).....lol I think we're expecting too much.

For the $350 I paid, I am EXTREMELY satisfied....which gives me hope Apple can come up with an equally impressive low-end (price wise) device this year.

I had the Verizon Galaxy Nexus, that thing was the worst on battery, almost as bad as the famous EVO 4G, which sucked on battery life. I had the Verizon Nexus, and even with 4G / LTE off 90% of the time, it still was horrible on battery running 3G. But I heard the GSM Nexus was substantially better. My Nexus 4 gives me roughly 5h On Screen time. And total battery life anywhere from 11 hours on a very busy work day, up to 16 - 18 hours on lighter days. My Verizon nexus never once lasted that long.

And that brings me up to, how can the iPhone 5 with a measly 1450mAh sized battery last as long if not longer than the Nexus 4 with a 2100mAh battery ? That's a 50% difference in battery szie, and the iPhone 5 lasts a bit longer. It takes massive beast sized batteries like Motorola's MAXX with a 3300mAh sized battery, or the Galaxy Note 2 with 3100mAh battery to make the phone last a solid 24+ hours.

Imagine the iPhone 5 with a 3100mAh battery, thing would last 36 - 48 hours easily. Wouldn't you rather have a thicker iPhone 5, same thickness as the 4S, but with a battery twice the size like 2800mAh or so, thing would last forever. Who cares about thickness on phones, at the cost of battery life. The iPhone 4S and current Android phones, all around that same thickness of 9mm is plenty thin enough, just pack in those MAXX batteries already.

The hype about other devices will be mute once klp comes out in may... Till then we're going to have all sorts of decisions

Agree, when i opened my nexus 4 i still kick myself for not notice the brand of the battery because damm 2100mah should last 7-8hrs no problem :(

Maybe cheap batts ? Best cells from years now come from panasonic so maybe LG is using ****** batts.

Anyway i think its time to leave low battery life devices in the past, its plain wrong in these days and i worry about them wanting to make the phones thinner and thinner.....

I doubt it will be mute for average buyers. The gs3 sold like hot cakes despite being on ICS while Galaxy nexus had jellybean in summer.

I personally like the thinner phones...the iPhone 5 feels extremely sleek....

The problem is battery tech isn't moving as fast as other components....the next big revolution will likely be in battery tech....both with respect to battery life and "true" wireless charging (i.e. Witricity)

I agree, thin phones are cool, I never liked my brick sized EVO 4G, but the Galaxy S3 is pretty darn thin, don't need it much thinner than that. But if I have a choice, thin phone with small battery, or little bit thicker with large battery, I will take this thicker all day long.

The Motorola MAXX is 9.3mm thick, my Nexus 4 is 9.1mm, Galaxy S3 is 8.6mm, and iPhone 5 is 7.6mm thick. I think the S3 is just right, not to thick, and not razor thin. If the Goggle 'X" phone is around 8.6mm thin, with the MAXX battery, that would be perfect.

But the iP5 has longer battery life than the GS3 generally speaking.....

Personally, if I can get through a day on a single charge, I'm perfectly fine with the battery. As a force of habit I charge my phone every night anyways (which also backs up my phone as well). I'm perfectly content with this practice.

Agreed. Android has gotten much batter on battery life, but still not to where I want it. Unless you get one of two phones with super sized batteries, the Motorola MAXX or Note 2.

Phones like the Galaxy S3, Nexus 4, and One X, have good battery life, but not awesome battery life. I want a phone that can last a good 16 to 18 hours, with heavy use; GPS Navigation running for a couple hours a day, makes tons of phone calls, text like crazy, read and send e-mails all day long, surf the web for hours, watch videos, have all features enabled on, not babying the phone with turning options off, and do this all on 4G not WiFi, and have like 7h to 8h On Screen time. Only Android phones that can do that, are the Note 2, and MAXX.

That will come soon too.

I was about to sell my nexus 4, but I started app programming and just took it out of box on impulse. Now using it and gosh, how could it look bad before and look stunning now? Lol.

Anyways, battery life will come like smoothness has. I cannot believe I am operating the nexus 4 because that thing is flying no matter what I do.

I will probably have to live with the subpar camera until the next nexus :p

Are you running a Custom ROM ? Which one if so ? I am on Xylon ROM with Matrix v7.0 kernel, very snappy fast, with good battery life. But looking for a different ROM, Xylon has some bugs, specifically GPS not working properly.

Nope, no ROM. Not even rooted. Just stock as it is.

Can you get faster than that? lol. That would be mind blowing. I have played with it all day and setup tons of apps and did IMs, PDF reading through ezPDF and other stuff. This thing doesn't slow down at all.

Although i am interested in Paranoid android. Apparently the kernel they use has a color fix for screen, but i find the screen pretty good as is. Reading black text on white background is really, really amazing. I must say though, the optimus G screen in a carrier store sort of looked unreal to me. So sharp and colors were much more accurate.

Also like their hybrid and tablet interfaces. And i would probably like a decent icon pack too.

Most kernels now has the color fix from the PA3 kernel. Personally I use Matr1x 7.5 and the battery life is very good.

I find vanilla 4.2.2 pretty good and dont feel the need for a custom rom, im pretty ive never try one but either way i just feel that im not missing much.

You guys really think whe will have a new nexus so soon ? imo theres a lot of chances for a nexus 4 with 32gb bump/64gb, nothing else.

What I expect to see as far as new Nexus devices, and I bet it goes down like this;

- Nexus 8 tablet in June, one year after the Nexus 7 release, the N8 will have a 1080p screen, better hardware, and maybe a new Android OS, like 4.3.

- Nexus-Five phone in Nov / Dec, running the all new Android 5.0, made by most likely LG again, or possibly HTC or Sony.

I highly doubt we see the Nexus-Five phone released this Summer.

Good guess and thanks for the info. I went to AT&T today and swapped the sim. It still has the no pictures issue. I do use a sim adapter, but I don't think it's effecting the sim because everything else works. I have an upgrade coming up. I'll buy the HTC One and switch the sim out and try that. Thanks for the help

I had the GSM Galaxy Nexus, and the Nexus 4 has better battery life. It isn't even close. The GSM Galaxy Nexus didn't get bad battery life, but it didn't get what I would call good battery life. My Nexus 4 gets good battery life. I can expect to get between 15-18 hours on a medium use day, and over 24 hours with light use. Truth be told, all I need is for my phone to last a full 12-15 hour day, as I charge it daily. I get 1-2 hours of screen time along with around 4-5 hours of talk time, and I easily make it through a 12-15 hour day. Once I got the first build of 4.2.2 on my phone, I've been happy with the battery life every since.

The hype about other devices will be mute once klp comes out in may... Till then we're going to have all sorts of decisions
I think that's more so the case with the informed consumer. The average person doesn't even know KLP is coming. On the other hand, with me, that's why I won't be considering a GS4 at all. I'd much rather wait until April and have KLP.
