Insult to injury....

Those in the UK your Nexus 5 ships from Dublin, whilst those in Dublin or other parts of Ireland can't even order one... Aghhh madness I tells ya.

Sounds like it's time for a breakin...

The eastern parts of the US at least ship from Kentucky. I got a notice yesterday evening after complaining to my wife that I haven't gotten a notice yet, and it should arrive on Tuesday. :D

Time to start backing up everything on the Galaxy S before donating it to Gazelle for the lofty sum of $15.

Nexus 5 reignited my interest in android once more, just when I was thinking of switching back to an iPhone or a windows phone....

Just getting tired of having a third party tweaked Google play ROM on my gs4 as its still acting weird at times and I just don't like the fact that I am being robbed of a good 5gb of empty internal nand thanks to Samsung partitions. Really wanted to get rid of it. Also i am done with the whole tweaking and customization, just wanted something clean and stable out of the box. Also hate hate hate those buttons. On screen ftw.

The nexus 5 adds everything I wanted. Apparently a better camera with ois (tbh as long as it can focus properly, that's all I care about), LTE, 32 GB storage option, at a slightly increased price of $400. Funny how I said in the past that I would love a 32gb nexus with better camera, LTE and battery life if Google can just ramp up the price slightly to account for it, and fanboys told me "ain't gonna happen". Well there you go.

I love the fact that I can sell my gs4 and still save money on the n5 purchase too. No more tinkering and tweaking, just pure updated android with decent apps.

Nexus 5 battery life after first charge. :)

You are making it too complicated (again). Simple fact. Nothing earth shattering. Decent upgrade. Same price to consumer. I don't know why you are acting shocked. It was all expected.

Nah, its pretty simple. I'm not shocked at all, you are the one who seemed shocked and disappointed, not me. My point stands, what a "decent" upgrade is depends on the user and is highly subjective and much more opinion than fact. If anything you have upgraded from "average" upgrade to "decent" upgrade, lol, changing your nomenclature as you go. What's next, "semi good" upgrade? in the end if you cannot quantify what "average" or "decent" means they just end up as nonsense terms.

That must really hurt! You can't buy it in Ireland......but for those that buy in the UK....it SHIPS from Ireland.......ouch!

Thanks for posting the battery life screen shots! I don't know how to take those numbers. Was it good that it got 5 hours of screen time? Was it bad that it only went 14 hours and only had 17% left and needs a charge?

The Nexus 4 would probably have 2 hours screen on time with the same stats, so that is way better.

Well if it's any consolation, the German, the Italian and the French are getting their devices from the Netherlands yet the Dutch can't buy the Nexus 5 off the Play store.

Order says shipped but still no tracking info... :(. Is that common with Google?

mine was ordered at 9:30am yesterday and looks to be out for delivery to me TODAY! If this actually turns up I'll be gobsmacked!

No I wasn't. You are just making assumptions.

Seeing as how nothing is confirmed and it is all speculation, I can say that based on expectations alone. And how the respective community will react to a larger screen.

Now you are ignoring community response. But really you are just dragging this off topic from the simple point I was making.

Yet you ignore community response? Hm. Why would someone care about an iPhone upgrade if that person doesn't even consider iPhones? Exactly, they wouldn't. So relative upgrade response is going to be specific to each community. But again, you are dragging this off topic. Relative community response was only to suppliment the simple fact people here don't seem to understand. Either that or get personally offended when someone says that the phone they just dropped a couple benjamins on is a "decent" upgrade.

You make the same mistake everyone else makes. Notice a lack of definitive terms. Note the inclusion of the word "could." You said there was nothing else to add besides water proof. I corrected you.

People only remember the bad. That is how the human brain works. Apparently nobody remembers my review of the Nexus 4 where I said I ditched my iPhone? Or the multiple times I mentioned I planned on buying it before it was even official? Or the fact that I bought it before even reading anything official about the dang phone. Did I read a single word about the official specs? No. Did I read a single word about what kit kat brings on the Nexus 5? No. Did I read about battery life? No. Did I read about camera? No. My computer made a noise, I knew it was the Nexus 5. I didn't think, I just bought it because I knew a long time ago that I was going to upgrade. They could have put a dual-core CPU in and a 720p display and I probably still would have purchased it.

Why you think this I have no idea. You even responded to the post where I said I bought it and didn't even look at it before buying.

I'm not. People are sensitive and don't understand when someone wants what they say to simply be taken for what it is. They make it more complicated or ignore past posts.

Which in no way contradicts my original post that sparked this discussion, yet so many people came in trying to debate it.

Sorry, I was under the impression open forums were for the purpose of openly discussing. I must have forgotten that nobody ever in the history of this forum has ever once said something that some people thought were obvious.

You talk as if that is what people did when it simply is not. If that is all people said, then there would be no disagreement. If there is no disagreement, there would be nothing to argue about. If there was nothing to argue about, this topic wouldn't still be going on pages later. So from simple logic, we can conclude this is not all people asked. People ignored the simple statement to bring in arguments unrelated to my own. Those topics I never debated (value of the phone being one of them). Since I never debated those topics, I felt no need to respond to that specific part of the post. But of course, now people have just dragged this completely off topic. It started as me simply saying that this upgrade is a decent upgrade with nothing too crazy. Why are people so shocked to hear that they have to debate it for pages?

Challenge: Quote me once throughout the 100+ pages where I said I was disappointed. You can't? Then stop lying.

This part of your response is exactly part of the problem. You say yourself that it is averaging out. THAT IS EXACTLY MY POINT!!!!!!! Yet here you are trying to make this into a debate! And you say I am disappointed? How can I be disappointed about something when that something was what I brought up in the first place! I said it was an average upgrade with no additional cost to the consumer. That is the industry standard now. LG does it, Sony does it, Samsung does it, and Apple does it. Why would I be disappointed? Answer: I wouldn't. Proof: I bought the dang phone.

I don't get what is so complicated. I am very excited about this phone. Have been waiting for it ever since the GS4 announcement. I got my order in, it already shipped and its on its way. I'm ecstatic! That just doesn't always come across on forums I guess. Maybe I should use more exclamation marks?

It means I stated a simple fact people felt the need to start an argument over.

Show me where I said price/value is irrelevant to the phone. You can't. You know why? Because I said it was irrelevant in context to my original point. I never once debated the value of the phone. If I thought it was a bad value, tell me why I bought it instantly. Oh ya, you can't.

I said that is not relevant to my original argument, thus I never debated it. If you can find one post on the entire Internet where I debate the value of the Nexus 5, I will bow to your perfect and whole knowledge.

Really? Because the only point I was making is that it is an average upgrade with no additional cost to the consumer and suddenly people are all offended. I guess I understand. People get sensitive and feel the need to justify their purchases even when nobody is bashing it.

What is "negative context" can be quite subjective. Especially when the original post that sparked this conversation was about how this is just an average upgrade. Saying "average upgrade" could be seen as positive or negative depending on the person. Negative person: ZOMG HE SAID MY PHONE IS NOTHING SPECIAL!!! Positive person: Alright, decent hardware bump at the same price as last year, totes buying it!

Maybe you're not aware of my words?

Stock Android, side buttons, developer community, updates, cheaper, better value, and a slightly less asymmetrical design vertically speaking (at least from the pictures). That and 5.2" is too big for my taste. 5" is pushing it.

Fair enough. Sounds like we're all reading you wrong.

I agree the value is awesome but technically the price didn't go up. They are simply offering a higher storage option for what would've been the price if they offered it with the nexus 4.

Nexus 4 16gb was $349 when it came out.

Nexus 5 16gb is also $349. They're simply adding a 32gb version for $399 at their customary +$50 for double the storage.

More proof apples storage tiers are a rip. ;)

Now if only Google would go up to 64gb,we'd be set!

Looking all around the house to see if I can sell anything to get the money.
Contemplating selling my toaster and kettle.
Any offers?

All of that and you go "fair enough"
:)

What can I say? We've all been reading him wrong. No biggie.

I just got a tracking number. My estimated ship by date was the 8th, so I'm pretty pumped. I should get it next week.
I just got a att software update on my s3, which I assumed would be 4.3, it was 4.1.2 I just laughed. Can't wait to get timely OS updates thats the one thing I miss about the iPhone.

Not only is Google handling this launch better but they're sending devices out pretty early. Good for them.

Don't buy into the whole apple marketing machine about 64bit. Theres a lot more to a cpu than the number of registers.
Actually, the 64 bit aspect of the 2013 iDevices is what interests me the most. Not because of what it can do now, which is really very little over the 32 bit versions, but because of the promise of unifying desktop/laptop OS's with mobile device ones.

Don't get me wrong - it could be awful if Ives & Co decide to make OS X into iOSX. I don't want a tablet OS on my laptop. But... if they do it right, there are a lot of awesome possibilities, and it'd absolutely get me back into iDevices, at least at the tablet level.

I've always been intrigued by the true merger possibilities of iOS and OS X, and a 64 bit A7 makes that possibility look more likely. Again, this would only be a good thing for me if I didn't lose the UNIX underpinnings and power of OS X and got the locked-down nature of iOS - and I fear that happening. But don't discount 64 bit mobile chips as hype (they are, for now, but they won't be for long).

Nexus 5 (2014). :) Wonder who it'll be...

Too early? Heh. My personal choices:

1) Motorola

2) Sony or HTC -- this is sort of a tie. I'm worried about how HTC will do, and I'm worried about Sony's screens (a lot of complaints of washed out looks, etc).

3) Xiaomi -- this would be very interesting since former-Googler Huga Barra is over there. They make nice looking devices, and it'd be an incredible way to get their name into the US playing field.

4) Whoever else, I guess.

Hopefully mine is soon to be processed as well, has ship by Nov 8th also.

Any good reviews out there yet? I'd like to see anandtech as he always has some nice detailed reviews which no one can match.

Yeah, but so many people here told me "Google wants to keep the price low, so there won't be an increase, and cloud is the future, so expect no storage increase either".

Both proved wrong with one good swipe. Hah.

If both apple and Microsoft can successfully execute their one platform strategies, you bet I'll be back in apple or ms ecosystem. I really love how win 8 is turning out to be, how it has rejuvenated our 7 year old inspiron laptop and caused zero maintenance headaches in the last few months, and windows phone should be slowly becoming what rt is, only better hopefully.

Same for iOS. A little bit of love towards default apps and I might just buy an iPhone again. My only gripe with iOS? Default apps. That's it. On and a 4.3 or 4.5 inch device wouldn't hurt either. Just don't run to 5 inches please.

In the mean time, I'll keep my current combo of a windows 8 laptop, nexus 7 and nexus 5 (replacing gs4 for it in future). The nexus 7 is gonna stay as a reader and movies player in a pinch, but I am eyeing a surface pro or a baytrail rt tablet too.

A moto nexus will mean no more nexus for me. Google is switching to a cleaner and pleasing lighter theme which doesn't go well with moto's beloved amoled screens, not to mention I don't like them either. Will probably push me back to iOS/wp in that case or keep the n5 for another year to see where all three platforms stand.
