Without knowing the details surrounding his ban, I agree.

Plus, he definitely kept things lively around here, with his posts often quite an amusing read.

A counter point is always needed IMO, even a fanboy one. It stimulates discussion...

Well I had to quote you to say I was one of the fanboys that told you Google would not increase storage. I am coming back to say you told me so. I think we had a very long discussion about this.

Well I hope you enjoy your N5. I have no idea when mine might ship.

----------

Can you get someone in the UK to order one for you, and then just have them ship it to you?

Hope it didn't come out as offending. We all have our views and projections :)

The good news is its an improvement for us all. The N5 is probably the most well rounded nexus so far, at least on paper.

----------

I'm not 100% sold on Motorola becoming the next nexus maker but...

I think that's sort of the nature of the nexus program. It's like a two term presidency (except it's one year per term).

And when elected you bring what you bring to the table and different people are happy. I think its actually important that there's variety in the nexus line.

Shrug.

----------

Doubtful though you'd think that'd make sense huh?

If so that gives people more favorable options in the play store. Always good.

Hmmm. I guess. I don't know if Sony will be picked though, with their recent litigation efforts. :p

Either way, it's fun speculating who the next Nexus maker may be. It keeps the Nexus program exciting.

It's easier said than done, but my dream scenario would be a range of Nexus devices from different OEMs.

Imagine a mid-range Nexus 4 that's 4.3" screen size, then your top tier Nexus 5 that's 4.95" screen, then your phablet with top tier specs and larger battery in the Nexus 6 that's 5.99" screen.

Then you have your tablets going from Nexus 7, Nexus 8, Nexus 10, and Nexus 12.

Boom. All at healthy price ranges.

Yeah. I was glad you were right. The phone is going to be awesome. Now I just need mine to ship.

Is no one irritated it didn't come for Verizon or AT&T?

To me not releasing on all 4 major carriers is a huge joke..

Actually, the 64 bit aspect of the 2013 iDevices is what interests me the most. Not because of what it can do now, which is really very little over the 32 bit versions, but because of the promise of unifying desktop/laptop OS's with mobile device ones.

Don't get me wrong - it could be awful if Ives & Co decide to make OS X into iOSX. I don't want a tablet OS on my laptop. But... if they do it right, there are a lot of awesome possibilities, and it'd absolutely get me back into iDevices, at least at the tablet level.

I've always been intrigued by the true merger possibilities of iOS and OS X, and a 64 bit A7 makes that possibility look more likely. Again, this would only be a good thing for me if I didn't lose the UNIX underpinnings and power of OS X and got the locked-down nature of iOS - and I fear that happening. But don't discount 64 bit mobile chips as hype (they are, for now, but they won't be for long).

64bit is entirely unnecessary to run a desktop operating systems as well. All the major desktop operating systems have 32bit versions. Without having 4gb of ram or more, there really is not benefit.

One thing I'm curious of is if the prices of the gpe HTC One and Galaxy S4 will drop on the play store.

I still think the nexus is a better buy even if the price dropped since the nexus has full support for aosp and has all the source code needed to build custom roms which makes its roms extremely stable. Thats why even a week or two after launch the cyanogenmod for the nexus 7 2013 was pretty much as stable as the stock rom.

I want to see Google make their own hardware. Apple is, almost indisputably, the best hardware maker on the planet, and that's largely due to their sheer size, resources, and custom parts. Google has proven that it can make top-tier hardware as well with the Chromebook Pixel, and I think their Nexus device hardwares are gimped just enough by the OEMs to be slightly underwhelming.

You may be better off just waiting until Best Buy sells them, and get them there. That is if you live in the US. If not I think I heard Amazon will have them too.

Canada. We will probably have them available again in January.

Although our providers are planning to offer it as an on-contract device, maybe ill snatch one from hup or someone else doing hup.

Agreed.

Will most people download a different app for that and if so what one??

I'm not sure what you're talking about. The N5 works fine on AT&T.

Verizon is another story. They don't like unlocked, open devices. Blame the carrier, not google.

That is just obscene, and not the only time I've seen BB mark up retail prices in ridiculous fashion. Best Buy really doesn't want anyone to buy unlocked devices, do they.

Funny thing is they will insure it at that price if you bring your unlocked version in. If there is damage they will give you that amount in cash since it's the GSM version and they can't replace it. It almost screams to do insurance fraud

There is only one version of the phone. The only difference is the box. Considering that, I don't know if they'll be able to insure it this year as it is a little different than it was last year.

This isn't a good sign for best buy...I hope it's not true that it's $799 but if so I'm happy I bought from google. Better late than.....$799

Yeah, how could they display it in one of the Google kiosks at the Google Play store price, yet also have it in the Mobile section with this advertised price?

Oh wait, we are talking about Best Buy here. Of course, they'd do that. And none of the staff will have any clue that the unlocked version can also be activated on Sprint.
