An even more immersive tour of Kit Kat (on a Nexus 4):

Kit Kat looks so smooth and nice. The whole OS just looks powerful and capable. It's all very dynamic. And if it looks this smooth on the 4, I can only imagine it's even nicer on the 5.

I learned a lot about Kit Kat that I didn't know about. He goes into the little itty bitty features. Very cool.

Heh looks like Google finally learned their location apps wreak havoc on battery life (with now turned off, and reporting off, I still have Google location wakelocks due to android device manager on but I don't want to turn it off because I am paranoid about losing my phone). They have a "battery saving" mode now for location. I guess I'll turn on Google now on the nexus 5 and hopefully won't turn it off in 2 days again.

Would it be wiser to order it on google play and wait out the 2-3 weeks or wait till this device hits radioshack or BB and buy it from them? Which would be quicker?

The official google blog says "just in time for the holidays" that didn't give me great confidence that they would get them at retail outlets soon. I went ahead and ordered even with the 3-4 week wait. I'm hoping google is just covering themselves with these numbers and it will ship sooner. Also, I'm a little worried they might charge more than google play and I'm also worried that warranty stuff goes through someone else instead of google like lava lamp freak pointed out. All in all I feel safer in many ways going with google play. If only I would have realized this at 2pm on Thursday grrrrrrrrrr

Yeah, but so many people here told me "Google wants to keep the price low, so there won't be an increase, and cloud is the future, so expect no storage increase either".

Both proved wrong with one good swipe. Hah.

Well I had to quote you to say I was one of the fanboys that told you Google would not increase storage. I am coming back to say you told me so. I think we had a very long discussion about this.

Well I hope you enjoy your N5. I have no idea when mine might ship.

Insult to injury....

Those in the UK your Nexus 5 ships from Dublin, whilst those in Dublin or other parts of Ireland can't even order one... Aghhh madness I tells ya.

Can you get someone in the UK to order one for you, and then just have them ship it to you?

If both apple and Microsoft can successfully execute their one platform strategies, you bet I'll be back in apple or ms ecosystem. I really love how win 8 is turning out to be, how it has rejuvenated our 7 year old inspiron laptop and caused zero maintenance headaches in the last few months, and windows phone should be slowly becoming what rt is, only better hopefully.

Same for iOS. A little bit of love towards default apps and I might just buy an iPhone again. My only gripe with iOS? Default apps. That's it. On and a 4.3 or 4.5 inch device wouldn't hurt either. Just don't run to 5 inches please.

In the mean time, I'll keep my current combo of a windows 8 laptop, nexus 7 and nexus 5 (replacing gs4 for it in future). The nexus 7 is gonna stay as a reader and movies player in a pinch, but I am eyeing a surface pro or a baytrail rt tablet too.

A moto nexus will mean no more nexus for me. Google is switching to a cleaner and pleasing lighter theme which doesn't go well with moto's beloved amoled screens, not to mention I don't like them either. Will probably push me back to iOS/wp in that case or keep the n5 for another year to see where all three platforms stand.

I'm not 100% sold on Motorola becoming the next nexus maker but...

I think that's sort of the nature of the nexus program. It's like a two term presidency (except it's one year per term).

And when elected you bring what you bring to the table and different people are happy. I think its actually important that there's variety in the nexus line.

Shrug.

One thing I'm curious of is if the prices of the gpe HTC One and Galaxy S4 will drop on the play store.

Doubtful though you'd think that'd make sense huh?

If so that gives people more favorable options in the play store. Always good.

Yeah, I would assume it would. But the the N5 now providing better specs than both of those, I'm curious if the OEMs would drop the price slightly to compete.

I wouldn't be surprised if they got rid of those completely soon. I think they were used as a bridge to give people a stock option in between the nexus 4 to the nexus 5.

As a side note, has anyone else noticed that kenknotts has never come back to this thread after the launch the other day? I don't think I've ever seen a user get pwned so swiftly and completely in one fell swoop. LOL.

What happened? I must have missed it.

He got banned, apparently. Heh.

Hey, he kept us entertained for 10 minutes leading up the launch. ;)

The ex-moderator in me (from half a decade ago) would suggest that we all be less gloaty about the ban... and things seem to be much, much more rigid here now than when I roamed free.

I wish he didn't get banned. Would have loved to hear what he had to say about Google's "improper" launch.

Without knowing the details surrounding his ban, I agree.

Plus, he definitely kept things lively around here, with his posts often quite an amusing read.
