Can anyone tell me how the LTE/GSM bands compare to the ones in the iPhone 5s? What countries would a 5s work in but the Nexus 5 wouldn't? Kind of a complicated thing to Google, but on first look it seems that the 5s has more bands.

Thanks!
The 5S does seem to have more bands, although Apple's page makes it hard to tell which models have which bands (there appear to be 5 or more 5S models, and they use different bands).

I suspect that the N5, if purchased here, would tend to revert to GSM overseas, but I'm not sure. I don't know which countries use which bands.

I'm not one to comment as I don't have a good eye for differentiating between very small differences in picture quality, if lighting is good then most cameras I've played with seem to take similar quality pictures. The rub, I've always found, is in low light pictures, that's where I think I'd rather see bang for the buck. If the N5 takes better pics than the 5s in low light, or at least equivalent, I think I'll be pretty darn happy.

It doesn't.

Upgrade to 32GB is nice, but not major. Something they should have done a while ago. With the 4 to the 4S they offered a 64GB option, obviously twice as much as the 32 in the Nexus 5. Still, nothing major.

I dont really want to get into a big debate here because i do agree with Couch in that you just cant let an opinion go and always have to reply even if it is nonsense.

That said, for me, the 32GB version is huge. Without it, im not buying this phone so for ME...this is big. Id call this major. You have to remember, this is a Nexus. This phone was never meant to compete with the big boys and never had the steller specs. It was meant for developers. Once you get that then you may realise that these specs are very good whether or not you want to say it is only coming up to standard. The point im making is they never were up to standard on the Nexus before.

Google playing catchup. Still far from mind blowing or earth shattering.

See above

Except you can't do it with the screen off or in another app. And we don't know yet if you can do it if you use other launchers. Not to mention we are not sure yet if Google has fixed the problem where many actions still require touch input. Definitely wouldn't consider this huge considering there are so many unknowns. But you seem to like making assumptions.

So we dont know ho this all will play out yet you are saying it isnt a huge upgrade. What if you can do all you are saying we are not sure of? How can you say something isnt huge if you dont know how it will work?

Another example of a flagship moving to the standards of its time. Nexus 4 had GG 2. Nexus 5 has GG3.

Again, read above. Nexus was never meant to compete with all the Samsungs and Apple out there. So really, this is big for them and it probably stems from popular demand.

Now for my responses on what would have made this a mindblowing/earth shattering upgrade:
Waterproof and dustproof
3000+ mAh battery
OIS is nice, but would have liked to see a wider aperture and maybe even a 13mp sensor
IR Blaster now that stock Android supports it

Cmon man.....Its Nexus we are talking about. Dont hold your breath waiting on those things.

Would these things have brought the price up? Yes. Did I ever say they wouldn't? No. Doing so while keeping the price the same definitely would have been mind blowing. But they didn't include those. Everything they included was either expected, playing catchup, or just moving to the standards of its time.

It seems to me you dont know the history behind the Nexus. Why did you even bother to buy this anyway if it isnt any big deal?

Is this a mindblowing upgrade? No, but it is BIG for Nexus and in my opinion its better than a iPhone s upgrade and for me, its a big upgrade from the N4 for which i passed on.
Many of he specs arent better then my GS3 with the 8MP camera and only a 1.3MP front camera compared to my GS3's 1.9 but it has a better screen, better processor and will get updates much faster and NOBODY can claim that one so in that regard, they are the standard leader and for many.....that is the biggest thing even with smaller specs.
And for the price, im ok with missing few things like IR blaster and a 13MP camera while the 8MP is good enough. I sure wont pay $629 for a Samsung Google edition.

Thanks. I'm considering the Nexus 5 because I'm taking off to travel, but I'm smartphone-less right now. And extending my contract with Verizon is not a smart move, so I'm looking at $800 for a 32GB iPhone. Where as I can get a Nexus 5 for like $437 after tax.

The bands were my only concern. As long as the Nexus isn't missing some major support, but it looks like I'd be OK.

Well if BB is going to inflate the prices from Googles price then they wont sell many of them like they would otherwise. It comes unlocked, why would anyone buy it strictly from Sprint? Im not going to buy it from T-Mobile. I guess im ordering mine from Google or Amazon.

This is disapointing.

Yeah, I guess they are taking advantage of the less patient or the less informed or those who just don't care and will spend the extra for it.

Seeing as how that was my only point from the beginning, glad we are on the same page ;)

The worst part is trying to determine video quality when all people do is upload video samples to YouTube. Then the quality is lowered through Google's compression. More camera tests need to upload the original footage and images.

I agree with you but there is a lot to be said for having a retail giant and local point of sale.

Most people have an aversion to buying blind so a best buy will be a valuable tool.

Am i crazy that I'm thinking about switching from VZ to Tmobile just to jump aboard the Nexus ship?

iPads are still the way to go in tablets IMO, but I feel like for me, Android just has more flexibility.

Nothing crazy about that at all, IMO. I know a couple of people who are doing the same very shortly.

I can't decide if I want to keep my 5C or switch to the N5...aaaggghhh!!!!!
Both are good phones, and there are clear differences in the hardware and software, so it really does come down to what you like.

iOS7 will be smoother, more polished, and better known, and the 5C display fits better in your hand.

KitKat will have a lot of capabilities not yet in iOS and will be more moldable by you, and the N5 display has almost 3 times as many pixels on a wider screen.

They really are so different that one really should appeal to you more.

On the other hand, there is very little that one can do that the other cannot, just perhaps differently.

You cannot lose.

Yea the size of the N5 does seem a bit too big for me. I love the ease of use with iOS and I've always like how comfortable iPhones are in your hand. But I also liked my N4 quite a bit and I do like delving into Android here and there and being able to do more PC-like things than what I can do on iOS.

Think long and hard. You will lose some things you may not realize are important to you, and gain some things you'll learn to like.

The great thing about the Nexus 5 and 7 is they are cheap so it's a low consequence dabble. No real harm in trying.

Get a second phone line. There.

Nexus 5

If coming from an ATT iPhone 5, do I just go to ATT store and ask them for a micro sim instead of nano sim?

Yes, or you just get one of these adapters.

The adapters can be a bit tricky with phones with sim trays. I know many people screwed up their sim slot with the Nexus 4 because they left the sim adapter in the sim tray without the sim card installed. And it was next to impossible to get the sim tray out with the adapter installed. It is just something to be aware of (don't leave the adapter in the tray if you take the sim out).
