There is something really weird with the speaker on this phone. Google Now talk back is so low that I can barely hear it. In a slightly noisy environment I can't even hear it very well even when putting it up to my ear. Voice calls are very loud and clear. Music is loud, but somewhat distorted. Voicemail playback in Google Voice is very low like Google Now talk back. IMDB trailers audio is very low. It seems like it is different in every app. (This is with the volume on max, by the way.)

The camera is great. I've only had one blurry picture all day. HDR+ is amazing.

I'm loving the phone so far. The only problem is the speaker, which isn't a huge deal for me. I use headphones most of the time. But for times when I'm wanting to share something with a friend, it's going to be annoying.

So the speaker phone on the nexus 5 is low?

The nexus 4 speakers were kind of low. But not super low like the Galaxy nexus which had awful speakers.

I just got mine today. I don't think the speaker is low, it just isn't deafeningly loud like the iPhone is when turned all of the way up. If someone keeps the Nexus 5 in a purse, it could be a problem, though.

Just got mine and the speaker is the worst part of this phone. It's miserable.

I've been messing around with mine for a few hours now. The speaker is loud, but I can hear a quality difference between this and my old s3 (which is sad, since that phone is 1+year old).
sms integration is annoying in hangouts, since both chat bubbles are the same color and no one else I know uses hangouts just regular ams, so no profile pic for them, which makes it harder to differentiate between messages. I'm using a 3rd party app, which fixes this. (this is a problem that can easily be fixed in a app update)
Camera quality is good. I love the UI controls, but they probably could improve the quality although it definitely isn't bad.
Overall I dig this phone. Screen is gorgeous, look and feel of the back is great, the only real problem with it I have is speaker quality, but the phone has so many more pro's to keep this as my main for the next year, until I see what the iPhone 6 or next iteration of android phones are.
kit kat is great. It has so many good features

Am not getting lte at work I did on all my other phones . And my signal is also bad?
Anyone else have this problem

Did you buy this yourself of from someone else? I'm assuming that within no time the non-US versions will start making their way onto eBay and CL and people with end up with non-LTE Nexus 5s here in the US.

I didn't think so when I first got the phone, but after using it for a few hours, it is frustratingly low. I don't think it's quite as bad as the Galaxy Nexus, but it is low compared to the iPhone 5.

I've found that if I cup my hand around the speaker it helps a lot. On the iPhone I didn't have to do that.

Regardless, I still love the phone, and I'll just continue wearing headphones like I always do when I'm watching videos or listening to music. It is an amazing phone.

People on Android Central seen really down on this phone...

I'm not seeing anything that gives that impression? Looks like any other forum with people complaining about one thing or another, or saying how great the phone is. You see the exact same thing on this forum.

----------

What are the main concerns?

Nothing different than you see here.

Been playing with mine for a couple hours. Ended up installing Nova Launcher on it. I lose the "OK Google" feature but I just set the double tap screen gesture to bring up voice search instead. Also lose the transparency settings for the status bar and soft keys but I can live with that for now. Will eventually try rooting it.

Stupid me looked at the defect thread over at XDA and started checking for issues they were having with their phone. Fortunately the only issue I noticed with mine is a loose power button. I can live with that. Screen is perfect. Speakers are average. Haven't had enough time to play with the camera but the couple photos I took looked very nice. So far, liking the phone.

First impression do you like it more than your note?

Get the Spigen Ultra Hybrid case (which comes with a free screen protector). Seriously, this is probably the best damn case protector AND crystal clear quality screen protector I have ever had. The reason I mention this is because the case literally takes care of this power button wiggly issue and does so very nicely. Take a look at the pics below. Buttons are flush, a nice tap is all it takes to turn on the phone and it looks awegreat. There is also an "air cushion" built into each corner so the case takes the brunt of the fall, not the phone and there is a 1mm lip surrounding the screen to protect it from face first falls. Back is crystal clear and has a scratch proof coating.

Why the heck has Google not implemented push support for the stock email app?!?!?! It is freaking 2013!

Stock email app is gmail. And it does have push support. Any other email you see is not the stock Google Mail.

Android does come with a stock email app. GMail is included as well, but that limits you to Google Accounts. The stock email app is different from GMail.

Actually, the 'other' email client you are referring to is an AOSP email client and used by OEM's, but it is not the stock email app. GMail is, and it is the only one updated by Google.

As for using other email clients within GMail, yes, you very much can. In fact, here are all my accounts that show up within the GMail app. I have both Outlook and Yahoo populating GMail directly.

Thats weird. And very unfortunate.

That is the equivalent of Apple giving people 2 email apps on every iPhone. One that only works with iCloud/MobileMe and supports push, and another that is a universal email client that doesn't support push at all. I find that odd.

EDIT: How do you have imap and pop in Gmail?

Edit: My bad. These populate the AOSP client. Bad info on my part.
You have to add the yahoo and outlook email clients directly via forwarding those email. Sorry about that.

Go into phone settings, then scroll down to accounts and click the plus button.

You can add any email client you want. If that client supports push, you will get email pushed directly into GMail.

I'm not getting it. Just tried adding my MobileMe/iCloud (which supports push obviously, and works fine in K9), but there is no option for push. The only options it gives me look to be interval-based syncs.

Go into GMail on a computer. Go into settings, then accounts. You can add and verify additional clients there. You can then have it push direct into gmail and even send emails through gmails with those alias accounts.

I just did this and can confirm. You just have to do it on a computer.

Wow the nexus 5 is amazing. Some quick questions though.

How do I get my gmail to show unread notifications on top?

Also, the same thing for hangouts?

So for my mobileMe/iCloud, do I have to set up "send mail as" AND "check mail from other accounts"? And there is no way either stock email client on Android can just handle multiple accounts properly like iOS mail?

Edit: Tried doing all that and it is still not working. If there is one thing I miss about iOS it is the simple mail client that doesn't force you to use Apple's mail services.
