I actually just spoke to Google on the customer service helpline.

They said there are no reported problems, and that the camera patch isn't confirmed but may well happen down the line.

Regarding the speaker volume, they again said nothing has been reported...

So really it's just down to me for the next few days to see if I can get used to the camera/speaker. If not, I've got 2 weeks to give it back.

Yeah that's the quandary I'm facing. I absolutely LOVE the Kit Kat Nexus 5 experience - apart from the slightly weird Hangouts, I think they have NAILED it. In fact, I'd find it hard going back to iOS 7 if I had to. That's the first time I can hand on heart say that.

But maybe something like a Google Play Samsung S4 would actually be great - but only at the right price.

Yeah I reckon the camera might be ok with a software update.

The speaker is even a problem with ringtones and stuff - music wise, it's loud but then distorts at high volume. I'm actually about to call Google and talk to them about it.

I too think that is a great phone, but it is really hard to justify nearly double the price of the n5.

Sitting my Nexus 5 right next to my Note 3, browsing same pages and playing same YouTube HD videos....

Man does the Nex5 screen ever look murky by comparison.

Much better form factor and fit/finish than the Note 3's crappy chromed plastic bumper and plasticky back, however. You aren't ashamed to pull the Nex5 out in public.

But that screen.....such a throwback to 2012. Yuck.

Really? I think the N5 has a pretty nice screen, this is next to a G2 which has one of the best screens around. It's a bit muted and has much less color saturation than my G2, and I'm sure than your N3 where Samsung is well know for their color saturation, so maybe it's that.

+1 I agree. I am not a fan of really saturated screens/colors so I think that's why I also find the N5 to have a pretty great screen.

Overall do you like the N5 over the G2?

So I called google support (UPS losing my package), they said they will start an investigation, and if it was indeed lost, they would issue me a refund.

I was like "no, I just want a replacement phone :(" she said it's not an option.

So now I have to wait for the investigation to be over, and then wait for the refund to reorder, and finally have to wait for the 2-3 week ship time? Sucks...

No, Engadget clearly recommends the phone.

And the verge gives it an 8 out of 10. Both have some pretty strong reservations about the camera. And many others have agreed that the camera is very slow, just read this thread. I'm probably going to get this phone but I'm probably going to keep carrying a dedicated camera when I plan on taking pictures.

Anyone know how to add app shortcuts to the slide to unlock screen?

If you mean actual other apps within the circle you would have to either use a custom rom or I am sure there is a lockscreen replacement app for it.

WidgetLocker will accomplish this goal, assuming there's no incompatibility with KitKat. I use it on my HTC One running 4.3.

The first photo is an older screenshot where I used the entire unlock circle after moving it up into the middle of the lock screen. The second image in my current lock screen. Also, if you slide from the left-hand side of the screen, another app drawer opens that can accommodate 9 more apps (third image).

Did you buy this yourself of from someone else? I'm assuming that within no time the non-US versions will start making their way onto eBay and CL and people with end up with non-LTE Nexus 5s here in the US.

Here the bands the different models support:

D820 (North America): GSM 850/900/1800/1900; CDMA 800/1900; DC-HSPA+ (42 Mbps) bands 1/2/4/5/6/8/19, LTE Cat 3 bands 1/2/4/5/17/19/25/26/41

D821 (rest of the world): GSM 850/900/1800/1900; DC-HSPA+ (42 Mbps) 850/900/1700/1900/2100; LTE Cat 3, Bands 1/3/5/7/8/20

I would be interested to hear what does/doesn't work where.

That's a bit of a bummer. How is everyone else's exerience with this?

I really want a phone that can snap a focused shot fast. Even if that means slightly worse picture quality. One of the reasons I'm currently test-driving my old 4S and considering a 5s instead of my Note 2.

The camera thing does sound annoying. What else would you want a camera phone for if not to take pictures of your fast-moving nieces and nephews? If you want to take pictures of landscapes you are going to use a real camera. A camera phone is there to take unexpected snapshots; as such, "shutter" lag is ridiculous.

That said, I'm still interested because of the price.

While there's no argument that Samsung screens push sat levels pretty high, the real difference is the brightness levels of both screens when viewed side by side.

The N3 was reviewed as being the brightest screen on the market currently, and this really stands out in darker blacks, brighter whites and just far more vibrant color spectrums across the board.

Really, even my new iPad Air looks murky by comparison to the Note 3 screen.

What display setting do you use on your Note 3?

Standard.....I'll try and post a pic of all 3 running same image, but I'm out of cameras to do so right this second if I line up all three.

Ah ok, that would explain why the N5 and iPad screens look murky to you. :) To my eyes that setting is just way too saturated.

Just flipped thru Dynamic, Movie and Professional Photo (which, considering the N3's camera, must mean a photo from a different device lol.)

No big difference....the N5 loses regardless. Murky is as murky does. It's just not very good unless you have low expectations.

Overall do you like the N5 over the G2?

that's a tough question. The rear buttons and the wonky knock on feature of the G2 just drove me away, if the g2 had regular buttons I would have kept it over the N5 all day long, no question about it. I like the N5, but important things like speaker, camera, battery life can't be assuaged by a nice screen and specs.

The Nexus 5 screen is beautiful, even next to my Dell IPS display, but it's just too freaking big to carry around with me all day in my pocket. I'm really impressed with how accurate the colors are on this compared to the Nexus 4 and the G2.

I've decided to return the Nexus 5 and get the iPhone 5S. I wasn't planning to do contracts or iPhones anymore, but I want something small to carry around with me, and the iPhone is honestly the best phone at it's size. I may get a Nexus 7 so I can still have the Android 4.4 experience.

I have no doubt the N3 screen is beautiful, bright is also a plus. My G2 was an animal in sunlight, I could see that thing in direct sunlight at 80%. I haven't tested the N5 yet, it seems dimmer but that may be the lack of saturation. It's been cloudy here. Sunlight viewability is my main factor in how useful a bright screen is.

I know a lot of reviewers out there preferred the G2 screen over the N3 screen specifically, but I don't know if the N5 screen is based on the G2 or not.

Would you give up the G2 for the Nexus 5?

I did, sold my G2 yesterday. I'm not sure if I'm keeping the N5 though, but I would definitely choose it over the G2.

interesting b.c I think it feels smaller in my pocket than the n4 b.c of how thin it is.

It isn't the thickness that is the problem. I've been carrying around a flip phone that is more than twice as thick as the Nexus 5 and it doesn't bother me. But the corners of the Nexus 5 poke into my leg when I'm walking or sitting, and I'm afraid that the pressure being put onto the Nexus 5 when I'm sitting could cause the screen to crack. The only thing that would help is if I started wearing baggy pants, but I'm not changing my clothing for the phone.

Very strange must be something wrong with your money, they don't want it.
