Its functional but lacks in the visual and customization. Twicca also comes with a widget to put on your home screen as does Twidroid. BTW make sure to download a Task Killer app. I find Taskiller to work well, but there are several comprable apps to choose from. I also forgot to mention TweetCaster, its another nicely made Twitter app.

I finally got to play around with my buddy's N1 last weekend. I was really impressed. As an ipod touch owner who is looking to get a new phone right now, I was pleasantly surprised by the neon green OS and all its functionality. Here are a few of the things I really liked:

* Interface was smooth and a welcomed change from the iPod OS that i've become so familiar with
* The phone is sleek. Really sleek. It had a great feel to it, and I liked the rubberish backing of the phone. Felt easy to hold onto.
* The picture function on the phone rocks. I really liked the 3D interface and, as I expected, all the pictures looked sharp on the AMOLED screen
* I actually really liked the 4 buttons on the bottom. I had heard that they weren't very responsive, but I found this to be completely untrue. It was really helpful having the Back functionality, as well as an accessible Menu button at any point I needed it. After using the ipod touch for over a year now, I realized that by only having one physical button on the device, I can be a little limited in general as far as user function goes.
* Did I mention that I like the Back button?
* Oh ya, the Google Services are AMAZING on this phone. I'm an avid user of gmail and gcalendar. The functionality was awesome on the N1, as was expected.
* The widgets, dynamic wallpapers, homescreen, and multitasking really do make for a unique experience vs. Apple products. I love my Apple gear, and I don't plan to abandon it any time soon. With that said, I would totally be willing to try an N1 for my next phone. Just waiting at this point to see what the Spring and Verizon deals are looking like.

A few cons...

* Not sure I liked the browser quite as much as Mobile Safari, although I didn't spend a ton of time on it.
* Multitouch was not quite there all the time. I tried using it several times, and some times it seemed responsive, while others it did not. Not sure what was going on with that.
* I didn't get to play with the music much b/c my friend didn't have any on the phone. It looks like the player is a little less sexy than Apples, but Apple has about a decade worth of sexiness put into theirs. It just works.

That's about all I can come up with. Overall, I'm pretty pumped on the N1. I'm pumped on the jailbroken iPhones as well. They're both ridiculously capable. Probably should stop obsessing over it, but right now is a pretty exciting time to be in the market. So many options, so many great products, and hopefully some competitive pricing deals are on the way. End rant

Very nice 3rd post!

I thought that was a good review. I still haven't been able to put my hands on one so I'm still holding off. Honestly, it gets harder and harder for me to resist every day. I'm getting bored of my iPhone 3G fast. I remember how excited I was when I first got it and I want that again! Haha.

Well I've had my Nexus One for about 90 minutes now and I'm still waiting for that orange light to turn green. I watched just about every video on YouTube about this thing and am pretty sure I'm ready to go with it.

But since it's taking forever to charge, maybe just a little more research is in order.

My battery came 50% charged. Note that USB charging is almost twice as long as using the power outlet charger.

Received mine this morning and only messed with it for about a half hour. So far I'm indifferent and will wait a few days prior to making up my mind and commenting any further than below. There's certainly a learning curve.

However I did enjoy being able to download PDANet to it without the need to jailbreak. The notification system rocks. The unlock function is great (similar to swype).

Just discovered a MAJOR deal breaker for me! No Exchange Calendar support!!! WTF?????

That's been a MAJOR complain on the Nexus One website. It's part of the reason that it's not selling as well since most people who works has Exchange at work and not able to sync the Calender is a MAJOR draw back.

It's ridiculous paying $529 and have to pay another $25 to get my Exchange Calendar.

Next upgrade from Android.

Thanks Vivid.

I feel ya on the whole resistance thing. I would love to get one tomorrow if I could, but I think I'll play this one patiently.

One other thing that i forgot to mention on my mini review is how nice the track ball was. I think it was really useful for general scrolling, and it didn't mark up the screen like finger prints do. Of course, the touch screen works well for most applications, however it's nice to have an alternative.

Already have my RMA#. The nexus stinks. it's a half ass attempt at best. I also just read it does not support bluetooth voice dialing.

I didn't know people actually used voice enabled blue tooth dialing like that.

Lol, exactly. Seems like he/she is looking for any reason not to get the Nexus One. I'm sure the iPhone had some shortcomings when he/she first purchased it, but yet he/she still got it.

My iPhone 3G doesn't do it... My car doesn't let me use my phone's dialing features anyway. It has it's own phonebook I have to program. :p

So it would be better to get the google nexus one rather than the HTC Desire since the N1 is directly from google it will always be able to update to the lates software correct? Phones like the desire or whatever other android phone some can't be updated yet since it isn't directly from google like the N1.
So I guess getting the N1 now for AT&T isn't bad then I was going to wait for the desire but seeing that the N1 is directly from google and will be able to be updated when new updates are out I'll definitely rather choose that.

As long as your Android phone has the hardware to support the upgrade from Google, I don't see it as a problem (esp with HTC when they have numerous android phones and IS the maker of Nexus One).

Think logically, why would google NOT want you to be able to UPGRADE and be happy with their LATEST and GREATEST version of Android. It makes no sense. Again, the phone you buy must have the hardware to support the upgrade.

Personally, I really like HTC Desire. I like Sense UI. It's intuitive like what APPLE use to innovate.

I will hold off until the new iPhone comes and and hope HTC Desire will be available on ATT so I have MY CHOICE of which OS I prefer.

Well, the Sense UI has just been ported to the Droid. You can get the Sense UI on the Nexus One.

Got my Nexus one today, so far I love it. Its a bit rougher around the edges then the iPhone, but some of the stuff is really sharp looking. I love the gallery app for photos.

Multitasking is HUGE for me, I really like it, even if I have use an app to close the other apps from time to time. That said, I'm still using my iPod nano for music, saving battery life on my Nexus.

I'll be keeping on eye on iPhone 4G, but for now, I'm quite happy with the Nexus

Ok, I just put in my order today...

I had one question though. Are you able to have Contact groups like on the iPhone? I like to be able to keep friends, family, and coworkers in separate groups.

I plan on taking advantage of the Google 30 day return option (for California) and hang on to my 3GS until I'm sure the N1 is going to work out OK.

Wish I could do the same, but...

A) I'm nowhere near California. :D
B) As a semi-impoverished college student, I need the cash from my 3GS to cover the cost of the N1. I guess I'll just have to live on the edge.

3G issues indeed appear to be less of an issue on AT&T's network. I guess T-Mo just sucks in a lot of locations.

Looking forward to making the switch. Hopefully it works out.

I bought a Nexus One a few days ago. I really like the screen, and for the past couple of days I was convinced that I'd keep the phone. I also thoroughly enjoyed the flash light widgets that turn on the camera flash instead of displaying a white screen. Then I woke up this morning, checked my phone and wasn't all excited to see the 800x480 display anymore.

The novelty of 800x480 AMOLED had worn off. I was stuck with ugly, clunky apps, no silent switch, bad speaker placement and no Tweetie 2. No good games, no smooth scrolling and a maps application that displays ugly, Fischer Price looking map tiles.

I was foolish for even thinking that it might have been a contender to my 32GB iPhone 3GS. Now I get to sell it on Craigslist at a $60 loss because you can't un-hack it. You can flash with a stock ROM but there's no way to re-lock the bootloader on these.

Probably going to buy an iPad with this money instead. That is something with which I know I will not be disappointed.

thats exactly how i felt and came back to the iphone. i agree at first its new and exciting but at the end its much more clunky and overall things dont get done as smooth and easy as the iphone. it might be like that to me since i have a mac, use mobile me and the ipod functions. i have a feeling most will start to feel this way. my sister still has her google issued nexus and i still play with it here and there, but have no desire to go back to it. i do wish apple ups the screen on the next iphone.

The new HTC incredible seems more interesting. Nexus One power for $199 (likely or less) on Verizon with great coverage. I now have a G1 and my iPhone. The iPhone is far and away a much much better piece of hardware, design and especially software design... but I can't live with Apple's choke hold on application development, controlling with an iron hand what I can and can't run on my phone. I own the phone, I don't lease it. I want to run what I want to run on it.

Meanwhile, whats up with the new iPhone? I haven't heard of any rumors of whats coming up? At a minimum I assume the following:
- Higher res display, 800x400 neighborhood
- Faster CPU, more RAM, more ROM
- Likely the same price with more function. Jobs said they wouldn't provide a price umbrella for competitors.
- More support for 3rd party application multi-tasking

I can't really think of anything else. Is there a good thread on this?
I haven't hear any rumors. Its been so quiet it leaves a vacuum filled with Android news.

Steve said they would be coming out with so many things so quickly the competition wouldn't be able to keep up. But I haven't seen anything. Seems like the same old pace, once a year update that we've always seen.

The only significant rumor was about coming out on Verizon. But those rumors have died off and Verizon doesn't seem to be playing particularly nice with Apple.

Any reason not to jump to Android?

Just got my Nexus One day today, I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT.

it is better in pretty much every single way possible.

No regrets and I recommend it 100%

I'm loving the nexus one more and more every day i use it!

Feels amazing in the hand, is blazing fast, android is nice and open and amazing!
