Er, I missed something...
Looks like I'll be able to sell my 3GS either tonight or tomorrow. I'm a little reluctant to let go, but the Nexus One just has so much potential. Hopefully I don't get let down.
I think he's talking about the forking of the OS.
Too many phones running too many versions of the OS with special modifications added on top of it all by whoever is manufacturing it. Google should just take control, if that's even possible. I know that's how they want to compete, but personally, it bothers me quite a bit.
Oh! Ok, *woosh* that went right over my head.
I see what you are saying. I, too, worry that they are going to get in over their heads. However, what they are doing is no different then what Microsoft does. Or, like different Linux flavors (although this one takes a bit more stretching)...
I plan on taking advantage of the Google 30 day return option (for California) and hang on to my 3GS until I'm sure the N1 is going to work out OK.
This is the worry with Android.
There is a growing issue of splintering and forking of the OS. There are many Android phones running 1.5 and 1.6 and only two running 2.x. There are a lot of people who don't like what is happening. They want to see everything on the same page...
But that would never happen. The real issue is that they're still being released with 1.5 when 2.1 should be the standard.
The only things I didn't really like was the keyboard to me was a little harder to use than the iPhone's
I'm only concerened with my nexus One and what Google can offer the Nexus One. Those that are concerened about splintering of the Andriod OS thats just too bad. I did my homework before getting my N1 and as I said it's better to have a device supported directly by Google. I'm sure there are going to be better devices like the Incredible which will drop on verizon soon but those that own those other devices are at the mercy of thier providers. All I want from a provider is cellular service and not to be dictated what update or OS I can put on a device that I own, thats what Google is offering and soon enough it's going to catch on.
You can always replace the stock keyboard with otheres that are available. My favorite is Swype that completely blows away the iPhones keyboard (which you can't replace) and you dont need to hack in order to have it.

You can also use the HTC keyboard which is also superior to the iPhones keyboard
edit: the point here is that we have a choice, if we dont like it we can replace it unlike iPhone.
in the end the reliability of touchscreen trumped all that for me.
Exactly my reason for sticking with the iPhone, except I kept the N1 so I can play with it whenever.
Correct, that's what makes the nexus one better than any other android phone on the market. So it would be better to get the google nexus one rather than the HTC Desire since the N1 is directly from google it will always be able to update to the lates software correct? Phones like the desire or whatever other android phone some can't be updated yet since it isn't directly from google like the N1.
So I guess getting the N1 now for AT&T isn't bad then I was going to wait for the desire but seeing that the N1 is directly from google and will be able to be updated when new updates are out I'll definitely rather choose that.
switched last week, turned on my iphone yesterday to prep it for selling and it was not pleasant.
Honestly, N1 is quite a different experience. It's kind of nice seeing all the relevant important info on my home screen (appointments, weather, etc...).
iPhone is good, but Android just takes it up a notch.
Let's see what the summer brings us with 4.0.
Desire just released.
On Vodafone, right? The desire is damn sexy...
I've been debating it in my head all weekend. I should just get the N1 and be done with it.
At the high end, you can have the phone for free on £35 ($53) per month over two years -- nothing new there -- but at the £15 ($22) a month price point, you can have 300 minutes, 300 texts, unlimited (with an asterisk) internet and the Desire for £129 ($194).
Well I've had my Nexus One for about 90 minutes now and I'm still waiting for that orange light to turn green. I watched just about every video on YouTube about this thing and am pretty sure I'm ready to go with it.
But since it's taking forever to charge, maybe just a little more research is in order.
There's only two apps on my iPhone that I use on a daily basis and I've spent a good amount of time looking around for equivalents. Well three but I'm pretty sure I've decided on which Twitter client I'll be using. Anyway, onward.
Checkbook - This is a simple balance tracking app. I'd like something that remembers entries that I've made so I don't have to type the same things daily. I've found one called Checkbook (free) but from what I've read it's not the same thing.
Todo (Appigo) - Pretty sure everybody knows this one. If not, feature-rich todo client that supports recurring tasks, categories, projects, checklists, and a good amount of other things I haven't found a need for yet. I read about an app called Astrid that sounds about right but I just thought I'd get opinions from people who've been there.
That's really it. Any other suggestions for handy apps are more than welcome, too. Thanks!
I know Todo very wellThere may not be a lockscreen option for it though!!

When you get into Twitter have a look at Twicca. That bad boy flies and looks good. Its satiated my Twitter app addiction which I thought was impossible.. Seesmic is also very nice too.
