yeah, i guess i misread his post. either way, you guys are apparently not understanding my problem. i get an email with an image attached, try to view the image, and the email client crashes. i'm not talking about attaching an image to an email and sending it, im talking about opening one that i received.

one of you should try that, it may have just been my phone... but it did crash before and after i installed cyanogenmod.
.

Works perfectly fine, just did it.

What if you pushed the button with your finger print and not the absolute tip or anything, does that always work if you hit actual symbol and not the edge or anything?

The typing is another thing I'm always worried about a tiny bit, I type like a beast on the ipod/iphone, but I heard it's a but harder on the Nexus...bah I wish I could try it.

Its not harder, it just takes getting used to. Its been about a week and I am almost as fast as I was on my ipod touch.

Ok, I feel like such an idiot asking this, but how do I get the phone to vibrate when I get notifications? Apparently, I'm not smart enough to figure this out.

Open email app > hit menu softkey > Tap settings > check vibrate box. Do the same in whatever sms app you are using)

You can also set different notification tones here (i have separate email and sms notification sounds so I know if its an email or sms)

Has anyone put a screen protector on their N1 or are you using them naked. If you put one on, which did you use? Did you have to cut your own to size? Does it affect the screen sensitivity?

Naked, just like my former 3GS. However, I do notice much more smudging on the N1. That coating Apple used on the 3GS really worked.
I wonder if a screen protector would reduce the smudging on the N1?

It seems to, depends on how sweaty your hands are though to be honest. Try one, you can pick one up off eBay for as little as £1. I have one on there just to prevent me scratching the screen, works a treat and doesn't affect performance at all.

When a new email comes in (I have 3 different email accts set up on mine), the "new email" icon pops up in the upper left corner. And if you're looking at the screen when it does it, the name of the acct scrolls in the status bar at the top. Then you can slide down the notification shade and see all your notifications, like "3 new gmail emails, 2 yahoo, 1 me.Com", and click on any of those notifications to go to those emails, or slide the shade back up and go to them later. All without exiting the program you're in. Very nice system.

The notification drawer is what I really like about Android... I may be switching this summer, we will see...

The lack of proper notifications was probably one of my biggest disappointments with the iPhone. Originally I was switching over from the Palm Pre - and I have to say the Pre has the best notification scheme of any phone that I have seen. But, the N1 is almost as good.

What's the difference between N1 and pre with the notifications?

I'm not sure how the pre handles notifications but with Android you get a little icon along the top bar which you can slide down to see more on the notification

Once extended you can tap onto any notification and it will launch the app and show you what it was notifying you about.

This way you don't have a intrusive box popping up on the screen that you have to interact with and you can deal with notifications at your leisure.

Question to N1 user. How do you backup apps and their data?

The Google store remembers all the apps you have installed. If your phone is wiped, it will automatically download and install all the apps you had installed on your old phone or right before it was wiped. It's really nice. I'm sure if you installed an app not using the marketplace you will have to manually reinstall it after a reset or on a new phone. As far as the data it varies from app to app.

actually it does not back up your free programs. only the ones you paid for.

Well I'm on day four and I gotta say I'm really starting to love this phone. I finished with the rooting process this morning (rooted last night and installed custom ROM this morning) and this phone is everything I wanted the iPhone to be. The trackball flashing when I have something waiting for me is great in itself, but that it flashes different colors for different notifications is just amazing.

The touchscreen is nothing to shake a stick at. As has been mentioned, the soft keys require touching a bit above where you'd think but other than that the accuracy and sensitivity is perfect. I've almost reached my iPhone typing speeds already.

I've found equivalents to all of the apps I used on the iPhone and although some aren't as polished (I can't find a to do app that's near as good as Appigo's) the functionality is there. The Weather Channel looks much better on this phone, IMO.

I haven't had the opportunity to use the on-board Google navigation but the fact that it's there, and free, gives me a warm and fuzzy.

I've been extremely careful with it up until now (don't carry it without it's sleeve, set it on the sleeve when its on my desk) because I wasn't sure if I was keeping it. Now that I am, my BSE shield has been ordered and should be on it's way this afternoon. I just hope it's as nice as the iPhone variation.

To anybody that's on the fence: this phone is damn nice and although it's Google's "test release", I'd highly recommend it to anyone. With the stock ROM it's a pleasure to use and if you decide to take the plunge and root it, along with all of the themes and mods, being able to jump between operating systems is quite nice.

I believe when you reset your phone, the first time you log into the Android Market all of your free apps are listed. The second time you log in it removes the free apps you had from your downloads list.

I always reinstalled my "free" apps when I first logged in so I didn't forget them when installing a custom ROM on my Hero. My free apps also showed up on my N1 the first time I logged in when my dead one was replaced with a new handset.

I also rooted and I absouletly love the different colors for the trackballs! I have it set for green for email, blue for text message, yellow for missed call, etc. It's very nice! I recommend you get the Nexus Torch (Keep LED Flash on ...best flashlight ever) and also Swype (awesome way to type).

So far I I am also enjoying the Nexus One very very much and do not regret switching from my heavily modded iPhone 3GS

How do you change the color it flashes? Mine just does white.

Have you rooted it?

I'm on the latest Cyanogen ROM and Gmail notifications are green by default. Handcent SMS allows you to choose which color you want.

I don't use Facebook so I'm not sure if there's an option for that.

Download Trackball Alert in the Market to customize the colors:) A paid version is coming out soon that allows you to assign colors to any app!:D

How did you change the LED color for the missed calls? Mine does blue and I can't find anything in the phone menu to change it.
