but by the same token, AT&T shouldn't stop selling other phones because they carry the iPhone - yeah they need to tread lightly but not so much that they start putting themselves behind the 8 ball.

does anyone know what percentage of AT&T wireless' gross income comes from the iphone? What percentage of new subscribers use the iphone?

They didn't sell that many on verizon. Being on AT&T won't help Nexus One.

The problem is, Google has NO number for support. You have to wait and wait and wait for email response, measured in day, not minutes.

actually they do. they have a line dedicated to nexus one support. the problem is they are not able to help you at all with getting a defective unit replaced under warranty. they try and troubleshoot over the phone and then hand you off to htc.

Their hands are really tied and I think it's just a bad call on behalf of Google's management to put your name on a product and then not have any responsibility for it's production or it's customer service. They are getting their name tarnished when people have problems with the phone because whether they manufactured the phone or not - it says google on the phone and the customer purchased the phone because they assume Google has designed it. ultimately there is a lack of ownership and responsibility for something that was presented as "Google's answer to the iPhone".

So I just realized that there is now a 2 inch long crack going down the back of my iPhone...

Buying a new phone just became warranted. :) Haha. I don't know what to do!

the fact that it's unlocked is really attractive. I hate having a software unlocked iPhone. You give up all support and warranty just to be able to use another network. I might consider it if there is a good program to sync music and podcasts to nexus one. So far no one has been able to tell me how they sync the phone.

I sync all my Podcasts over the air with DoggCatcher, Music I usually just drag and drop into a Music folder - then again I have all my ID3 tags correct so it doesn't really bother me.

Overall I love the phone - though admittedly I've only ever used the original iPhone. I do wish someone made something like the Nexus but with a slide out gamepad. On screen keyboards are fine for me, I just want some tactile feedback for ma' gamez!!!!

Another option is DoubleTwist. :)

DoubleTwist works great with Android phones. It's basically an iTunes clone. The latest version of DoubleTwist supports podcasts as well.

They'll probably sell more once the Nexus One is, you know, available on Verizon. ;) Until this AT&T announcement, the Nexus One was only available on T-Mobile. The Verizon release is officially set for "Spring 2010", although rumors have it shipping to customers on the 23rd of March. If you're thinking of the Motorola Droid (the major Android handset that has been available on Verizon for some time), it's actually sold quite nicely since its introduction last fall, even edging out the iPhone in 74-day sales.

And for the Nexus One on T-Mobile, it's no wonder that it's sold poorly—in addition to the high price and hassle involved for current T-Mobile customers to get the phone (especially on a family plan), the sales and support structures have been a nightmare. You can only buy it through Google, but you have to call three different companies to get tech support, and each of them will just refer you to the other two? And this is before we even get into the hardware issues.

In summary, Google's strategy was to release a phone on the weakest carrier in the US using this Rube Goldberg pricing/purchasing/support scheme and then do almost no marketing except for a few text links on their home page. It's frankly a miracle it sold anywhere near as well as it did. Having it available on other carriers will probably boost sales a bit, but let's see what kind of marketing muscle gets put behind it. The Droid did so well partially because it had the full marketing muscle of both Motorola and Verizon behind it. (And quite frankly, it's a better phone than the Nexus One in a lot of ways.)

Got mine today! Posting from it right now, actually. So far so good!
Are the home, menu, search, back buttons responsive? Do you have to touch in the upper 25% of the icon? Do you lose 3G signal strength when you hold the phone in your hand? Thanks!

Apple's biggest advantage....

The marketing will probably still be relegated to news stories and littering pages like macrumors with ads for the nexus one (are your adds also frequently for the Nexus One? It's like all I see on Macrumors.com).

You're absolutely right about the rube goldberg customer service. It really made me appreciate Apple as a company. Yesterday, when I ordered the iphone to replace my nexus one and then happened to find out that buying it from AT&T's phone system results in a waived activation fee, I initially asked Apple to cancel the order. But then then after the guy completed the return request I said "you know what, you guys are an awesome company and have stood by your products so much in the past. Screw It, despite the fact that I can get it cheaper via AT&T, I'd much rather do business with you guys." The guy said "sir, that's really nice of you. I do see here that you've been a customer for a long time. I'd rather you not have to choose us if we're more expensive." He then credited me for the $35 incase sleeve I had in the order.

Most companies forget about you after you made an order. Some have good customer service. Absolutely NONE give their customer support people the power that Apple does. This is the biggest advantage of the iphone over any other smart phone out there.

Just ordered a Rogers version.:D I will sell my old Nexus on ebay. Love the phone but I did miss the 3G. Also Slingbox app will be released by summer. I will be still keeping my iPhone;)

I don't get why people have multiple phones...

Care to explain why you need both an iPHone and a N1?
Its like having a wife and a mistress.;) I love the iPhone and will never part with it but I am a tech junkie and am a little bored with the iPhone. I plan to get a iPad when it can be ordered here and have a iPod touch so the change will be nice.

Got mine today too. Absolutely in love with this phone! My 3gs isn't anywhere near this good. The keyboard takes some getting used to.

Please feel free to make as many comparisons between the 3GS and N1 as you like. I'm very interested in the pros and cons. Don't be shy. ;) Thanks!

on the fence please give details on the nexus, i have a iphone 3gs can i just put my sim card in it to make the nexus work and when i want to use my iphone 3gs just put the sim back in to make that work. yes i know iam a tech junkie. and yes i will buy a new iphone when it comes out hopefully july 2010:)

I want the HTC Desire, why do Europe/Asia always get better things versions?
But always a few months later. The best thing with the HTC Desire is that you can change it into a Nexus One. I will be needing a work phone and I'm thinking of using the iPhone for work and Nexus one (Or Desire) for daily use.

I really love that you can customize it, the widgets, the multitouch and flash support. But I'm afraid the 4G will drop this summer, though I still think it would be nice to have an iPhone and Android instead of two iPhones.. And right now Android is making great progress and right now watching all these videos on youtube it seems slightly better and much more entertaining.

Is anyone sure that the 4G will drop this summer? Are the speculations as strong they were for iPad or as weak as they were for MBP in January?

I'm very tempted by this new Nexus...529 is steep, but if the reviews are so positive(no weird sensitivity issue with the buttons, no 3G issues) I just may be sold

At&t and verizon are only testing 4g the rest of 2010 wont go nation wide till mid 2011 sprint coming out with some 4g phones this summer but thats really just wimax i like what at&t and verizon is doing LTE network i think it stands for long term evolution not sure but its faster that sprints wimax

Microsoft Exchange

Has Nexsus One solved the sync with Exchange Calendar yet? That's one of the most important thing for me. Any work arounds anyone knows of?

jumping ship

I have an iPhone 3g and it has a huge crack in the back casing and if by this June/July I can't listen to pandora and respond to a text without closing the app I am gonna get a N1. Tired of the iPhone myself. had it jailbroken but it'd be nice if it was standard as many others agree.

Sure!

First off, the screen, there is no contest. The iphone looks horrible after using the N1. The phone is crazy fast with the snapdragon chip. It feels great in the hand (not that the iphone didn't).

I've owned the first iphone, a 3g, and a 3gs. So i have had a lot of time to develop iphone using habits. Some things are hard to change over. The keyboard layout is a little different, no big deal. There is no hardware silence switch. The trackball button doesn't wake the phone up (only the top switch does unless you're rooted).

Lets see...

A removable battery is very nice! Having removable storage is great too. The google integration is incredibly nice.

The nexus one live wallpapers are very cool as well!

Battery life seems just fine so far (I haven't had it a full day yet but i've been playing with it non-stop for hours with little drain).

The phone's build quality seems spectacular so far.

My impressions of android are great so far. I cannot believe how terrible apples notification system still is. Seriously, after 3 years we still have obtrusive pop up windows, it's inexcusable to me. I had lockinfo + GRiP on my iphone just to tolerate using it. The girlfriend had a pre and seeing those notifications versus apples made me angry! So far androids notification shade is fabulous.

The nexus multitasks seamlessly. It really is pleasing.

The browser is better in my opinion partly due to the larger screen and faster processor.

So far I can't see any reason why I would return the nexus or go back to the 3gs.

I will say the iPod application is better and i'm having some difficulty deciding what to do about mobileme, but for now, it's an easy decision for me.
