First off I am as long and loyal mac user there is, I lost my Iphone a month ago and decided to try a google one phone and wait for the new iphone to come out. I must admit I am impressed. I have had it for a couple months and am just as happy with it as I was with my 3gs. Now I understand that the new iphone might go right by the google phone but if it is not way cool I am not switching.

Air, ipad, mac desktop

Just put the Incredible order in today. Excited to try something new. Should be here on Thurs. The reviews are lookin' good so far. If all else fails, I'll head back to the iPhone in 2 years. For the time being, I'm excited to try the latest and greatest (at least for the next few weeks till something bigger and better comes out... [Evo 4g])

question for you fellow N1 users...

If you are using a screen protector, what are you using? I've tried a few for my iphone, and ultimately ran without one. I've never tried an anti-glare protector, and am thinking this might be a good way to go to help readability outside.

I've got a feeling the old http://www.google.com/phone thing is over too as Vodafone over here will be selling the Nexus One direct it seems.

Hopefully this will mean it's available in store over here so people can try before they buy. A far better sales model IMO.

I think the nexus experiment is over and google failed to dramatically alter how phones are bought. They couldn't go really market the phone as they'd piss off the carriers and manufacturers. They couldn't offer any price reductions for the same reason and with verizon slamming the door on the nexus phone on their network. Its all but over. Its a great phone, but its already been surpassed in features.

I'm going to compare the desire and EVO against the new iPhone to see which one fits my needs the best.

I think the issue in America is that there isn't a huge array of carriers a phone can go between. If you buy a CDMA phone, even unlocked, it'll be for one carrier because they only allow branded phones to be activated. If you buy an unlocked GSM phone you have the choice between only 2 carriers. Even with those two carriers each phone will only support ONE high speed network.

There's not really any incentive to want to buy an unlocked phone from a 3rd party. If Google was selling a phone that would work on T-Mobile AND At&t 3G networks, I think they'd have more luck. Even so, it'd only be swappable between two of the four major carriers.

I could see it being good if the system was like this... You buy one unlocked phone that could be used on ANY carrier. Then you can force carriers to compete based on what plans they offer you. You then can get a good deal or jump to the next carrier and keep your phone.

The way we operate now people are stuck with the carrier their phone comes with and usually for several year contracts to get the subsidized prices. This sucks for the consumer. Plans here are expensive because the carriers know that you can't go anywhere. Even if you didn't have a contract, you'd have to buy a new phone to switch.

incredible

I've given up on my AT&T coverage getting any better and just ordered an Incredible on Verizon. I live a few miles from Apple's Cupertino campus in the San Jose/Los Gatos area (not in the mountains BTW) my coverage is fine almost everywhere, except where I live! I'm going to stay where I am so the phone has to go. No exaggeration, every single call I make from home or receive a home will have one drop at least. Some drops have occurred as I'm saying hello, other's take 20 minutes to occur and then may happen 2 minutes later after we've reconnected. I had drops when I was in New York recently, but I can excuse that with the 50 story buildings on every side of me but here in Silicon Valley? c'mon. I've been using the AT&T "mark the spot" app for almost 18 months almost every time I've had a drop but of course there's been no action taken on AT&T's part to improve service. I love my iPhone, but if it's only good for the "i" and the "Phone" sucks then hello Verizon.

I really wish I could get in on the Nexus One. I would love to own this puppy. Want to get rid of my 3GS.

Your just not feelin the iPhone anymore? Time for a change huh?
Pretty much. Just wanted to check out how android is. I really enjoyed hacking WinMo phones, but WinMo was WinMo...awful. Android is hackable and offers a good OS. Also, I have google everything.

Have you ever used a demo android phone in store or a friends or anything?

Nope! Probably should huh?

Seams like the normal thing to do before purchasing a phone. Ya know, a little test drive

I test drove the nexus for like 5 minutes. At a tmobile store to see if they had it on demo they didn't, but an employee did. You cant really get a whole idea of how the UI is with 5 minute of use but I know I was a littl curious so I kept researching all onlin. Next thing I know I'm going for th plunge and I sole my 3GS and purchased a brand new nexus one for AT&T. I sold it 4 days later and purchased a 3GS again. Everyone has there own opinions on which they enjoy more between the iPhone UI and or android.

You'll see. Personally, just couldn't even do it.

Yeah, I understand. I'll probably end up doing the same! Trying to spend as little money as possible.

im using a clarivue anti-glare. i like the way it feels over the screen itself. if you are hoping it will improve readability outside, it doesnt. :D

Dang....that's EXACTLY what I was hoping for. I know the screen would still be mostly washed out, but the glare when outside is really bad as well.

Skinomi Techskin.
I highly recommend it. The screen still has the same response and it greatly reduces the "smudge factor".

Skyfire rocks! Currently watching ESPN videos right from their website - Awesome.

The biggest problem I have with Android is their lousy email client for Exchange. If you just a gmail user you will be fine, but if you need Enterprise email you should definitely think long and hard before getting an Android device.

I'm curious to know as well. A few reviewers state Skyfire is slower than the built-in browser.

I've found on average it's slower than the built-in browser, but it gets the job done. Everyone now and then it seems to stop responding to touch for a few seconds. I find myself still using the built-in browser 90% of the time, but jumping to Skyfire if I need Flash. Granted it's still beta, but it'll tide me over until Flash comes with Android 2.2.

Touchdown

Very true. However, there is a solution. I purchased Touchdown for Exchange. It works very well. Complete Exchange integration (calendar, tasks, GAL).

As far as Skyfire, I think it compares very well with the built-in browser. It has some quirky features that let you share a link and toggle "Mobile" vs. "Desktop" style browsing.

Yesterday I played with a HTC Desire, which from I can see is a Nexus One with a different case and Sense UI.

My verdict is that I was actually really surprised by how good it was. Android has come further than I thought, and the Sense UI is the icing on the cake. The Snapdragon is very fast, even though Android keeps things running in the background I noticed no lag at all while playing with all the apps. I also noticed that it had a very good battery life too - the shop demo which everyone was playing with had been going without a charge for about a day and a half.

The only problem I noticed was with the browser. I hit up Engadget on it and it wouldn't let me into the desktop site because it said it had too many server redirects. I found that a bit surprising considering Android was meant to be "built for the internet" and, ya know, it's made by Google and all.

The performance of the browser was faster than my iPhone 3GS, though, and the multitouch worked perfectly. The way it kept adjusting the layout of the text everytime I zoomed into a page did get on my nerves, though.

But I don't think I'll leave the iPhone for it, I'll just wait for the Android iPhone port to be developed more, then I'll be able to have the best of both worlds! :D

One question though: when you send e-mails from the Gmail app, is the text
formatted weirdly like
this? Because when I used the
Gmail java app it always did this
to my messages and it was very annoying.

I reccomend everybody to download Skyfire from the market!!!, the latest update now allows it to play videos from Hulu!!:). You cant appear to pause it or fast forward but it works!!!. I just watched a episode of The Office without any hiccups.
