I reccomend everybody to download Skyfire from the market!!!, the latest update now allows it to play videos from Hulu!!:). You cant appear to pause it or fast forward but it works!!!. I just watched a episode of The Office without any hiccups.

Cool! Ugh, I can't wait for the EVO! Preorders are starting soon at RadioShack.

So that's pretty good... I never use more than 300 min a month anyway and I could always use VOIP. So lets see... $25/month + $10 (that's their blackberry surcharge and I'd probably be about the same) - 25% (work discount) = $26.25/month... Versus my $70/month with At&t...

Talking about Evo, I have been seriously thinking on abandoning ATT for Sprint just for this phone. Damn, its so irresistable.

I briefly experimented with a Nexus One. I had it for two weeks until I sold it. 3G reception here in Charlotte is really, really good. No complaints. Work travel is infrequent but never had reception issues with the iPhone 3G I had before, when I did have to travel.

When I bought the N1 (after many days of mulling...) I immediately enjoyed the much higher resolution screen and overall performance. Android was great, not the incredible experience I thought it would be, but it was definitely a breath of fresh air. Then I noticed while at home, instead of the usual full bars I had with the iPhone, I only had 2- maybe three on a good day. Then I took it to work- 1 bar. This given the fact that I used to have full bars. I rebooted several times then tried to get Google on the phone to help me out. It took 11 DAYS. ELEVEN. Utterly and completely ridiculous. I was pretty pissed. In the end, I sold it for a little more than what I paid for it and bought a 3GS. I gave my wife the 3GS and went back to the 3G I had before.

My reasoning for trying the Nexus One was pretty simple. I LOVED having weather, calendar, and my notifications on my homescreen, and I loved using Google Maps. I didn't have to jailbreak it, it just worked. Honestly, I have to admit, I REALLY liked the live wallpapers. The Galaxy one absolutely mesmerized me. I wanted to just put up with the signal issues but the dropped calls were making me upset.

I'm hoping that the new iPhone does a few of the things above, without having to open "An app for that..." Maybe we'll see a modified lockscreen on what I presume will be called the iPhone HD. The resolution they are anticipating should make even the EVO 4G look low-res. My coworker has an HD2 and let me tell ya: it's just too big for a pocket. I wear size 38 jeans folks (so my pockets might be a little bigger than some) but the phone felt like it was going to break in half. Thus ended the fascination with that large, lovely screen.

To get back on track- the Nexus One was a fine phone. It just wasn't meant to be for me. Google's customer service needs some serious work. I'm definitely anticipating news on the new iPhone. Hell, it may even look different than the model we saw. Can't wait!

guys I've got 48 hours left on my Nexus One return period. This was the second phone I got. The phone has had no issues except for a touch screen spazz out just once over the past month.

However, with Google saying "tough luck with the 3g issues" and the documented touchscreen limitations, I'm having second thoughts about keeping the phone.

I have come to the conclusion that I need a google voice integrated phone (probably not going to be the next iphone) that runs on GSM (not going to be the evo/incredible).

Should I return?

Just out of curiosity, why does it need to be GSM? Do you need to stick with your current carrier?

I travel internationally several times per year. Specifically, this summer, I'll be on a cycling tour across northern europe!

Neat! :D But I can see why a CDMA phone wouldn't be much use to you...

If you're worried about the N1, there's always the HTC Desire, but it's even more expensive than the N1, and it doesn't look like it's too easy to get over here yet.

Wirelessly posted (Opera/9.80 (J2ME/MIDP; Opera Mini/5.0.18302/856; U; en) Presto/2.4.15)

I'd say send it back DoNoHarm. Wait until HTC have a GSM phone with the better touchscreen controller like the Incredible comes out to alleviate your touchscreen fears.
I can't comment on 3g issues as I've had no problem with mine! :)

I'm also tempted by the incredible. I've read some reviews that showed the screen's accuracy was superior to the nexus and the sense ui had a unified email client that can handle exchange/imap/pop. This latter option is important for me, as it was the deciding factor for me to return the N1

I dont think you would actually be able to get a "work discount" on a prepaid plan? But even with it it WAY cheaper than Att... and you get spint+verizon network coverage. 90% of the time you will only need sprints coverage(Unless you live in the sticks)

Damn, oh well. As you said, still way cheaper.

Incredible and EVO have the same sensor. If you're ok with Sprint then I'd say it's a better choice. Especially since Sprint is cheaper and roams on Verizons network anyway.

I'm not a sprint fan, they screwed my wife over and there's no way we'll be part of sprint any time soon.

Went to a Vodafone shop today and played with a Nexus One, was again very impressed by it.

How would I go about getting one of these in the UK from Google? And I assume I could buy a O2 iPhone SIM from eBay or something to get on pay as you go with free Internet? And if it becomes defective, where do I send it and will it get replaced or repaired or what?

And is there anyone on here who actually got one and kept it? All I see is people buying them then selling them a few weeks later.

Starting to seriously consider getting one.

If you buy it from Google (which is actually from HTC), HTC/Google warranties it. You call them. If you buy it from a 3rd party (like through eBay) the warranty is void. Their warranty terms say "only the original purchaser" is covered. If you buy it through a carrier the carrier warranties it.

Why not just buy it from Vodafone?

That's the nature with internet forum. When people have problems, they post their complaints about the phone. But for satisfied owners, there's no need to post how happy you are with the phone every week. I haven't replied in this thread in a while but needless to say I'm very satisfied with my N1. :)

I'm in the UK. I ordered mine from http://www.google.com/phone and I have kept it.

If you order from Google, you get a two year warranty and it is an unlocked handset so you can pop any sim into it.

HTC UK will handle repairs and I have had to use them as mine completely died after 8 days of ownership. Here is how my support query went:

Monday: Phoned HTC to report my Nexus one had died and explained what I’d tried to remedy the situation. I asked for it to be collected and delivered to my wifes workplace which wasn’t a problem for them. I got a paid UPS collection slip emailed to me whilst I was on the phone and everything was arranged.
Tuesday: UPS collected my Nexus One from my wifes workplace.
Wednesday: UPS delivered my Nexus One to HTC
Thursday: I recieved an email saying that a replacement was being sent
Friday: The Nexus One was delivered to my wife at 10AM.

My replacement unit has been fine and I was really happy with the support service and the speed of the repair but it is no way comparable to going into an Apple store and have a genius replace it there and then (I had to do that with my faulty iPhone 3G).

One thing I would say, it might be cheaper to get a sim free HTC Desire over here direct and as they're pretty much the same guts, the experience would be the same (if not better thanks to Sense UI). The negative thing with the Desire is that Android updates will most likely be slower due to HTC having to update Sense UI for newer versions.

I'm an ex HTC Hero owner and if I still had that handset, I'd still be on Android 1.5 which is crap, especially as we are roumoured to have a FroYo update on the way after Google I/O this month.

I hope this helps somewhat! :D

I honestly don't think most people have the 3g issues. And most of those who have issues are using the T-mobile version. As for the touchscreen, it's not as good as Incredible's but it does its job. That's the thing with technology, something better is always just around the corner.

I'd say keep your N1. God knows when Nexus Two will come out. N1 is the most "future-proof" phone on the market right now. Powerful hardware, fast updates, easy to switch between ROMs. It's not perfect but no phone is. :p

Thanks for all the replies! :)

My iPhone 3G suddenly became unable to make or recieve any phone calls after many months of ownership and I had to Genius Bar it, but when my Nokia 5800 had problems I was running around everywhere trying to get things sorted before 30 days (as after that it'd be sent to a Nokia service centre, which are infamous for being complete crap), so I wanted to know what I'd get from the N1, and it looks decent from what I've read here.

I don't want to get it from Vodafone because I hate contracts, I like my phones pay as you go, and Vodafone refuse to offer that on the Nexus One.

Here's another question though: if I order from Google, will I get multitouch? Because, last I heard, they couldn't support multitouch in the US for legal reasons, and phones ordered from Google are imports from the US.

Also, what's the situation with apps? I know there are Engadget and Twitter apps, along with a few games, but is there as much choice as the iPhone? And can I get stuff like I Am T-Pain, or equivilent? I like silly apps like that :D

Is the HTC Sense the same hardware as the N1? I know it has a Snapdragon, but is the RAM and everything the same?

And, what's the graphics like on these phones?

Thanks in advance! :)

All Nexus One's have multtitouch as of 2.1-Update one so that isn't a problem!

App selection isn't bad reallt. Between my iPod Touch and Nexus One, I'm pretty much in app heaven.

The HTC Desire is almost exactly the same as the Nexus one apart from a larger ram on the Desire (576MB Vs 512MB on the N1) and the desire has Sense UI overlayed on Android. The desire also lacks speech to text from what I've heard and the 2nd noise cancelling microphone on the back.

Seeing as you are interested in multitouch on the Nexus One, the Motorola Milestone would be better at multitouch compared to the N1. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qzhUzq6bTPg
Thanks to the Synaptics Clearpad 2000 on the Nexus One, there are issues when using multitouch compared to other handsets.

Using it on a day to day basis it hasn't manifested itself as a problem to me but you might want to consider the issues before purchasing!

Sorry if this is a bit of information overload!

Looks good!

I don't want a Milestone, I hate Motorolas and it's underpowered too, in fact it'd be a downgrade from my 3GS hardware-wise.

I've just did a little research and it looks like the HTC Desire has extra camera features too, which I do like the look of. Not too sure about HTC Sense UI anymore after using stock Android on the Nexus, but I'm sure there's some sort of ROM to put normal Android on a Desire anyway.

I like the ROMs, BTW. I'm big on being able to mess with my firmware (what nerd isn't?) so I'll be rooting for sure, probably installing Cydogenmod (or however it's spelt :D) too. In fact, the ease at which all this can be done, without worrying about a cat and mouse game with the official developers/manufacurer is one of Android's main selling points for me.

I'll do more of my own research and ask here if I have any more questions!

But aparently you can't flash custom ROMs to it, only stock Desire ones from other carriers. If that's true, it kinda sucks. I got my info here BTW: http://androidforums.com/all-things-root-nexus/66055-rooted-n1-vs-rooted-htc-desire.html

From what I know so far, the Nexus is better for hackery dackery.

It's easier to run Desire and other ROMs on the Nexus One. There are a few good ROMs out there. I've heard good things about the MoDaCo custom ROM. You can also install the stand-alone Desire camera app on N1.

I don't plan on getting an Android phone or anything but it definitely is a tough choice to choose between the Incredible and Nexus. But personally, I'd choose the Nexus if I was anyone choosing...

It does just about everything better except for the touchscreen. It looks better, instant updates, better camera, more flexible as of now, and whatever else.
