I don't plan on getting an Android phone or anything but it definitely is a tough choice to choose between the Incredible and Nexus. But personally, I'd choose the Nexus if I was anyone choosing...

It does just about everything better except for the touchscreen. It looks better, instant updates, better camera, more flexible as of now, and whatever else.

The Incredible in my opinion could have been so much better if it weren't for the casing it has. I got my hands on one at Best Buy and it felt so damn cheap compared to my Nexus that just because of that it was unbearable to hold.

Kept mine. I keep switching back and forth between the 3GS. Main reason is the keyboard on the N1.

Went to a Vodafone shop today and played with a Nexus One, was again very impressed by it.

How would I go about getting one of these in the UK from Google? And I assume I could buy a O2 iPhone SIM from eBay or something to get on pay as you go with free Internet? And if it becomes defective, where do I send it and will it get replaced or repaired or what?

And is there anyone on here who actually got one and kept it? All I see is people buying them then selling them a few weeks later.

Starting to seriously consider getting one.

I've kept mine as well. I occasionally put my SIM back in my 3GS, but the only thing I really miss on the 3GS is the copy/paste implementation on it. That's really my only issue now with the N1...the fact that the copy/paste on it sucks. I didn't realize how much I relied on it on my iPhone. Often I have to forward info in emails, and the only option you have on the N1 to do that is to actually forward the whole email. That's often not an option for me as many times I don't need to include the original sender's email address, which happens when you forward an entire message. With the iPhone's copy/paste, I can just copy the relevant info out of the original email. But, this is less of a problem now, as I usually have my iPad with me, and try to use it to do email when on the go. If Android can come up with a system wide usable copy/paste fix, I'd sell my iPhone and not look back. Maybe it will come in 2.5 or 3.0, whatever the next major OS release is.

I have the Incredible and I agree the backing does feel a bit cheap. To be honest with you, I never see it though because I already threw on a Verizon Silicone case, and it looks PIMP. Will not be seeing the cheap backing for a long time to come :D

Swype is the key to all your problems. I thought it was overhyped, it's not. At least not for me. WAY FASTER than anything I've ever used. Owned an ipod touch for a year and a half, and now the Incredible. Swype is amazing. Really amazing.

Is the battery user replaceable or is it sealed in like the iPhone.

How's the screen accuracy of the incredible, trouble typing.

While the Nexus that I had was good, and I loved the design, the touch screen was a scosh less accurate then the iPhone. I noticed this mostly when I was typing. Not a lot but enough to be noticeable. I'm extremely tempted for the incredible, it really depends on what apple does in June. If they play it safe, I'm going to verizon with the incredible.

Replaceable. I just bought an Seidio extended battery (1750mAh) which fits where the stock 1300mAh one does. I've had no problems... I just always do this and keep the stock one charged as a spare for emergencies. Blackouts and long days have taught me this.

Screen accuracy for hitting web links is terrific.

The keyboard feels a little narrow. A lot of people swear by switching to the Swype one and spend a couple of days until you get good at it.

(I love HTC's onscreen WinMo/Android keyboards because they have the alternate characters (like numbers) available all the time... you can just press and hold to access them.)

Feel of the case... etc...

"Once you move from the front of the unit to the back, you’ll notice not a flat battery cover, but rather a form-fitting silky smooth piece of material that seems as if it has just been carefully laid over the device, much like a fabric cover for a high end sports car. You can see practically all of the physical interior elements of the phone just from the battery cover.

It is one of the most luxurious-feeling plastic blends we have ever felt — not rubbery like a normal rubberized plastic finish–but rather a perfect mix of plastic and another material that gives the phone an amazing feel when you are using it."

I agree with BGR, but wanted some protection and something a bit different, so I just ordered a leather covered case from Amzer here.

I still have mine! Posting from it now. I bought an iPhone 3G on launch day and a few months ago needed a change. Rooted running CM5.0.6 using a custom kernel for overclocking :D

Yes, I bought one for AT&T the day it was released and definitely have kept it. I got rid of my 3GS and really haven't looked back. No phone is perfect, but the nexus one IMO is the best one out there right now. I really don't see going back to the iPhone unless they really fix the notification system. Android wins hands down. And if you're going to use android, make sure it's 2.0 or later. 1.5 and 1.6 are not the same thing.

That's a good move. Being able to play with one in store is possibly the best way to choose a phone.

It was a fun experiment and I kind of enjoyed watching my N1 make its way across parts of the U.S and the Atlantic when waiting for its arrival but availability in stores makes far more sense to me.

Exactly. Now people will have the opportunity to try the phone before they purchase it. I do wish Google will still sell the phone directly, but I'd say this is a very good move to boost sales.

As long as its ATT or Verizon. Depending on cost and features of the new iPhone. I'll be looking at the incredible, and I think because of the incredible I don't think verizon will carry it.

ATT needs a serious android phone, the backflip that they carry just doesn't cut the mustard and having the nexus one would suit them very ell.

Google has already said that the Nexus One will not be on Verizon.

I agree that at&t really needs to offer a high end Android phone. I would love to see the Desire come to at&t.

Tried to get in on their beta and no luck. So I wait til they release it.

That's annoying, I don't want to buy my phone from the network, I want to buy it unlocked and put whatever SIM I want in it.

Though I do agree that you need to go into the shop and play with a phone first.

so Google has been humbled in their quest for Cell industry Dominance
I wouldn't go that far especially since they surpassed apple in the US market

No they tried to change how phones are bought in the US, i.e., unlocked but people would rather spend 199 and a contract then 500. They certainly did help themselves with the support debacle or setting themselves in direct competition with the people who they needed

Yeah, not really. Android is doing just fine.

If anything, this just proves that if you want to change the US distribution model for mobile phones, you need to
A) actually make sure that all the major carriers, not just the crappy one, want to carry your phone,
B) do some actual advertising, and
C) not implement a ridiculous Rube Goldberg system of tech support.

Would you recommend?

Sorry if I'm disrupting this thread but my iPhone 3g has a broken vibrate switch and weak battery, I have been looking into a new phone but being bound to AT&T means the choice is either palm pre plus iPhone 4th gen or nexus one.

In short is the nexus one worth the 530 dollar price tag?

I have a Nexus One, but if I were you, I would wait on the new iPhone next month. The Nexus One is no longer the flagship phone for Android; it was a few months, but not anymore. I like the Nexus One, but the features of the new iPhone will be better. Android flagship phones are usually "flagship" phones are 3 to 4 months then another better and improve Android phone is released.

Nexus One to Desire to Incredible to Evo

Thank you for the opinion I have been thinking about the next iPhone but I'm a little tired of the iPhone os and I'm sure the nexus one will always run the latest software since it's vanilla. Honestly I'm very confused and can't test the n1 unfortunately

so I returned my nexus and I've been using my old phone that really is so cheap, they give you one free when you buy a pay as you go card. All I gotta say is... wow it feels so nice to have a phone that lasts a week between charges again! :)

I'm on the other side of the equation.

I'm probably going back to the android platform (partly because I don't qualify for an iPhone upgrade) but mostly because I'm chaffing under apple's walled garden, big brother approach and attitude.

I played with the incredible at a Verizon store and I wasn't blown away. With all the love the Sense UI is getting I was underwhelmed. The nexus certainly did feel snappier© even if the touch screen was tad imprecise. Sense UI seemed to add a level of bloat or latency, things just didn't scroll as smoothly as I was used too on the N1. Plus the design of the N1 was more eye pleasing, the incredible seemed just too boxy.

Then there's the inability to root the incredible and with a google device, I'll not have to wait for the carrier to release froyo. Seems like a win-win situation for me :D

For my needs, if I don't get the iPhone and google keeps their online store open long enough. I may order the N1 in a week or two. I want to keep my options open and so I'd like to order it as close to the WWDC keynote as possible just incase I change my mind ;)

Mike, as I've commented in another post, no one can play with these phones for a few minutes and understand the reasoning and usefulness of their UI design decisions. It takes actually using them.

I made that mistake with WebOS at first: just "played" around with it and was confused. Then I got a Pixi for my wife and decided that I should use it for a week in order to learn how to set it up for her. By the end of the week, I understood why people fall in love with WebOS. The multitasking is so natural, easy and fun, it's insane.

I ended up keeping the Pixi for myself. It was great. Good browser, light and easy to carry. And of course the bonus of a free (usually $60) tethering plan on Verizon, which was especially useful for my kids with iPhones who ran out of ATT 3G signal when we went out to eat.

My only problem with it was that I wanted a much bigger screen. I'd had an HTC Imagio with a WVGA screen which was fantastic. And I wanted to learn to program on Android. When I got the Incredible, it was again a major UI switch and I was confused at times and missing the Pixi. Now it's all second nature and good.

Yes, some people will never need more than a "My First Smartphone" kind of device, with only limited options and dead simple UI. Others will progress in their needs and knowledge. They just have to understand that it's not always an instant progression.
