I have the same requirements as you. From my research it looks like the "Touchdown" application from NitroDesk is the answer. It adds full Exchange support. So, I guess the answer is, out of the box, the N1 can't do it, but with a 3rd party app, it can.
I emailed NitroDek and they confirmed that Touchdown is compatible with the N1. User reviews are very positive.

That's what makes the Nexus One better than the iPhone. Instead of being limited to what the phone can do there are 3rd party solution's (unlike Apple). For those who say "just jailbreak it": Why should we pick up the slack for what Apple should have provided out the box? I paid $500 back in July 2007 for a phone which couldn't MMS, multitask or copy and paste? And there is still so much potential that Apple is holding back today! Give me a break!

I don't have a Nexus One (I'm on a Verizon family plan and just couldn't wait), but I picked up a Droid a few weeks ago, so I can at least offer my thoughts on Android as a platform.

The folks who've been raving about how much more capable the phone is are dead on. You don't realize how helpful multitasking and the notification system are until you've had them. Even a jailbroken iPhone (or iPod Touch, which I had been using) with backgrounding enabled isn't anywhere near as versatile as an Android phone. And the integration with Google services is both seamless and incredible; it's like MobileMe on steroids. And for free.

The Android Market is a bit of a mess interface-wise, but you can easily find apps on the phone's web browser and then follow the links to the Market. Alternatively, you can browse on your your computer and scan a barcode on the screen to be taken to the app's page on the Market.

Android's interface is, overall, noticeably clunkier than Apple's. The on-screen keyboard feels a little awkward even after you get used to it, and you never know quite whether to long-press something or just hit the Menu softkey. On the other hand, the lack of need for on-screen menus means that the entire screen can be devoted to content, which makes that extra resolution even more useful. (The Droid actually has a few more pixels than the N1, and it's absolutely breathtaking, even without the OLED screen.)

Generally speaking, if you're tech-savvy, you'll love the N1 (assuming they got all those hardware glitches taken care of). The hacking community is quite large, so if you're adventurous, you can get into rooting and ROM installation and all that; there's more to choose from there than there is even in the iPhone jailbreaking community. Even if you don't get into this stuff, there's no shortage of ways to tinker; Android apps have much lower-level system access than iPhone apps. If you prefer your phone to just work, the iPhone is probably a better choice.

We don't know what they may do with OS 4.0 and the next iPhone. That's why the best comparison can't happen yet because we're comparing old hardware to relatively new hardware. But I entirely understand your point.

That's the great thing about what Google is doing with the N1, no matter what provider you have you can get a Nexus one. It's going to drop on Verizon next week and those Verizonites that cry about an iPhone on Verizon now have a chance at an excellent device which in many areas out preforms the iPhone.

I just sold my unlocked Tmobile N1 for $499.00 on Ebay. I just wanted to get rid of it ASAP to make way for my AT&T N1. It was a nice device but being a AT&T customer I needed the 3G to tether my pc which I do a lot.

How do you know this? I know they said Spring but that could be anytime in the next couple months. Also, my bet is that as soon as it's on VZW it'll be on Sprint. I'm pretty sure the only difference would be software that is flashed to the device.

I doubt there'd be a difference in the software on the device outside of knowing which band it'll need to be on.

Honestly, the N1 is expected to blow the 3G out of the water. That's nearly two-year-old hardware. It's expected to be on part if not better than the 3GS because that's one-year-old hardware.

the best comparison is going to be to the next iPhone, whenever and whatever that is.

I totally agree with that statement. Although the 3GS is less then a year you have things like the iPhone OS, that really haven't evolved that much since the original iPhone.

I think Apple is working on its own silicon for iPhone 4 and it's going to revamp its hardware in terms of speed, ram, screen res, battery life, camera and so on.

Again, Apple for the last decade has pushed forward technology and software in many respects, so I personally fully expect that the new version of iPhone will be a significant upgrade from where 3GS is now.

Steve Jobs is also reported to have said the next iPhone will be "A+"

I wouldn't buy a N1 now at all. I'd personally wait out two months.

I was going to speculate about OS 4.0... but that's just pointless I guess because we'll never get anywhere. :D

What may or may not come in 4.0 is the only other thing holding me back... As soon as I see what 4.0 is my mind will be made up, next gen iPhone or N1/next gen Andorid.

I doubt there'd be a difference in the software on the device outside of knowing which band it'll need to be on.

Exactly, that's why I don't see why there'd be a delay between the releases.

Exactly. We're using an interface that's gotten old fast and hasn't changed a single bit since it was released. The OS may have advanced in features and abilities but it's just starting to really feel old.

Apple is definitely going to use their own SoC much like the iPad does in the next iPhone. It'll be ARM-based, most likely manufactured by Samsung, but Apple-designed. That's when we'll be able to compare things that are much more on par with each other.

I was going to speculate about OS 4.0... but that's just pointless I guess because we'll never get anywhere. :D

I honestly don't know if we'll see 4.0 this year or this half of the year. 3.2 seems to offer a lot but will we see it on the current devices? Who knows?

That's why I just want something new to play with and try.

And yeah, there's no reason to delay a release between the Sprint and Verizon versions. They'll use the same CDMA component but will need a different stack based on carrier. Simple thing to do.

I'm sorry but there is simply no excuse to not jailbreaking. If you say you prefer not to out of personal preference, that's totally fine. But to act like it's some sort of negative to have to do it, is lame. Takes so little time, opens up a whole new world.

All phones have their merits. I personally think the Nexus One, although not as refined, looks like a nice change of pace. It can offer people a similar experience to the iPhone with enough change to get them excited again.

The iPhone on the other hand is the iPhone. No sense on describing the positives because everyone knows.

We should all be happy as hell that we have such awesome things to choose from, and when the new hardware/software comes out, it will be an even harder decision.

Nexus one DOES NOT beat a jailbroken iphone 3GS... NO phone can touch it

Amazing apps that turn your iphone into a whole new phone

i dare you to tell me a few things the nexus one does that a jailbroken iphone doesnt

All of what you said out of the box? :D

The notification system on Android singlehandedly beats iPhone OS.

Integrate Google Voice into contacts... Free navigation apps... Dictation in any text entry field. Oh yea, and it's unlocked. A new 3Gs can't be jailbroken or unlocked yet... So for anyone looking for a new phone the jailbroken 3Gs is not even an option.

I'm sure the 3Gs is good. Faster version of my jailbroken 3G, which is awesome. I just need something a bit faster that I can install unsigned code on. :)

Google announced it a few weeks ago I believe its the 22 or 23 of March.

Although me myself can't believe it but yesterday I sold my 3GS and I ordered the Nexus One. I thought I ordered it early enough to receive it today but that wasn't the case :(. Anyways, first of all as many of you know I had my 3GS jailbroken and had it thoroughly themed and with insane amount of apps from both Cydia and Appstore.

Heck I even have a YouTube channel called EverythingCydia with nearly 1,200 subscribers.
I know what a jailbroken iPhone can do but I have been keeping my eye on the Android OS.

When Google announced/released the Nexus One I fell in love with the hardware and even more so with the software but was bummed to see it only compatible with T-Mobile's 3G Network. I would never downgrade from a 3G device to a Edge based one so I never thought about "abandoning" my 3GS.

I still watched tons of video reviews on the Nexus One and read so many articles about its capabilities that I was still impressed. On March 16 when Google released a version of the Nexus One that is compatible with AT&T's 3G network it IMMEDIATELY caught my attention like no other phone has except for the iPhone.

Therefore I spent literally 2 days (March 16-18) researching in detail and what not on the Nexus One. I was even more impressed when I saw many of the neat Cydia like apps were in the Android Market Place natively and how you can basically customize it to a extent not possible not even on a jailbroken iPhone.

The main reasons I gave up on Apple (For now at least) are:

1- Complete user customization of the Nexus One
2- 3.7" WVGA AMOLED Screen
3- 1GHZ Snapdragon Processor with 512 MB of RAM
4- Amazing notifications system (Unintrusive unlike Push Notifications)
5- 5 Megapixel Camera with Flash
6- 2 Notification lights (Customizable colors too)
7- Very nice implemented multi-tasking
8- Open OS (Developers can use the phones capabilities to their liking)
9- Google integrated services are seamless
10 Removable battery + MicroSD Slot
11 Google Navigation is amazing and free!

That's about it. I am sure once I have it in my hands I can expand this list even more. I will post impressions a couple of days after use but I know I won't be disappointed by my decision.

I dont care about google voice.. Can you buy other navigation apps on the nexus one ? Such as tomtom.. do they give you a choice ?

I can unlock my iphone 3GS.. even though ATT is great in my area.. most people dont need to install unsighned code .

Precisely! The 3GS is good, I had it since July up until yesterday but we have to recognize the Nexus One + Android is a combo it can't beat. Not even having it jailbroken with all the bells and whistles can compete although it makes the 3GS a lot more better then if it weren't jailbroken.

Hey, can you view flash applets in a browser? Do you have flash?

Also, does your iPhone automatically download pictures from your Facebook friends profiles and then sync them to your respective contacts? (In other words: Download friend's profile pictures, and set them as the photo for the respective contact)

Also, does your iPhone have free street view turn-by-turn navigation? Just curious....

PS: All this, out of the box. No hacking/rooting/jailbreaking required. There's a corner over there where you can cry :D

umm yes with the facebook app it automatically does that

i have free street view.. and TOMTOM is better than google navigation

..and i dont care if its out of box or not.. jailbreaking takes like 15 seconds .. its not like you have to be a genius to do it .... why the hell would i cry ? my iphone is better.. and when i get the new iphone that will be even more better than your nexus one ..

I think the fact that the most recent 3GS models with the latest firmware and baseband can't be jailbroken is a pretty good excuse

im saying right now is there a choice?

when you make a wrong turn does google automatically reroute everything for you ?

You are spouting "TOMTOM is better than google navigation" yet you haven't even used Google Navigation for Android?

If you had used it you would know the answer to that already. ;)

Yea... You don't know what you're talking about...

First... Android does have paid GPS apps and there is definitely choice there. The only diff between Android and the iPhone is that the Android one ALSO has a free ALTERNATIVE. So it's better in that aspect.

As far as unsigned code, you obviously have no clue what that means. It means jailbroken. Which if you say you don't care about that, then you are retracting your statement about jailbroken 3Gs and need to take back all the stuff about themes and such.

Also, you can't jailbreak a new 3Gs yet. So anyone looking for a NEW phone doesn't have that option. As far as the "new iPhone" goes, you have no clue if it'll be better or worse. Nobody does. It goes like this, you can say it will I can say it won't. We won't know until it's released so that's a stupid argument.

Things are moving too fast here! Haha

I'm surprised you made the switch, as I have read many of your posts! Good news is that you don't have to give up the 3Gs either. You can swap the sim back and forth or Wifi tether the two together. :D

im saying right now is there a choice?

when you make a wrong turn does google automatically reroute everything for you ?

This could go on forever! Does TomTom do voice searching?

I really got a chance to play with a Nexus One today, and that phone is AWESOME. I can only imagine how the second and/or third version of it is going to be.
