That's the best....

...publicity Beats/Apple could get. Ban them and everybody will talk about them. Such a stupid move by both BOSE and NFL.

Not that I was convinced by Beats headphones. My relatively inexpensive Bose and Sennheiser beat the hip but overpriced Beats hands down.

Apple should've bought Bose instead. At least their products are decent.

But they're probably not as profitable. Apple is addicted to money and profit and Beats are rumoured to be very high margin like all of Apple's products.

How sad that you actually believe that. Bose are shopping mall toys for old dudes that don't know any better.

And Beats are the same for young dudes.

Tell me you don't think beats are superior to BOSE in terms of sound?????

Even within the context of professional sports, which would seem to be the essence of "competition", all Apple's competition can think to do—instead of actually competing by producing better quality products—is to "restrict."

Now that's lame and that's sad.

All companies do it. Apple included.

Love how people are slamming each headphone maker when 99.99% of us listen to crap sources for music anyways.:roll eyes:

So what the hell is the difference in crap playing crap? I have the Beats Studio Wireless and they are great for tuning out noise general listening, especially on planes and in cars or buses.

Well Said!

Music preferences are subjective and the quality of those music preferences are subjective. There is simply no way to scientifically quantify how good music sounds or how bad music sounds. What I find annoying you may find pleasing and vice versa. I may prefer lots of bass in my music while you might prefer a more neutral sound. Which method is better? Who knows and who the **** cares! Just enjoy your favorite tunes on your favorite equipment and stop trying to quantify how certain brands sound when compared to other brands.

I've tried a few dozen sets of headphones over the last 20 years. One thing is certain, I absolutely HATE the way neutral headphones sound. They have no personality and their impact leaves a lot to be desired. I find I spend lots of time on the EQ trying to make those neutral, wimpy sounding headphones have some sort of personality and impact. I've learned that I enjoy a headphone that is NOT neutral, a headphone that has physical design characteristics that mimic my personal taste in listening habits. I enjoy the sound of the new Beats Studio V2 (wireless) over any neutral sounding, audiophile approved piece of crap.

People just need to stop trying to force their listening preferences onto other people. It's okay for people to like bass in their music. Not every song has to sound like a 100 pound weakling.

As a broadcast production specialist ('have earned 2-Emmy awards for audio mixing), I was quite impressed by how comfortable and pleasant sounding Beats headphones were when I gave them a tryout recently. Yes, for professional mixing work we usually favor a neutral (flat) sound typically found in Sony and Sennheiser pro products. But there's nothing wrong with individuals choosing headphones that they like for any reason - design, color, sound, style, etc!

It's amazing to me how bigoted many posters are in their "hate" of Beats or Bose headphones - get a life! If you don't like something - don't buy it!

Great, so we now have not only apple super fan boys in this site but now beats fanboys ??

Not that I was convinced by Beats headphones. My relatively inexpensive Bose and Sennheiser beat the hip but overpriced Beats hands down.

Usually banning something has had the opposite effect. Fine the NFL inked a deal but to ban beats as part of this expresses the fear and the threat that Beats poses to Bose (the opinion about the equipment is another matter).

I think if anyone does anything because of fear it usually results in increasing the power and momentum of that which you attempt to stifle. :D

Beats headphones are fashion statement item and nothing more. Build and sound quality is subpar.

Bose, at least, is known for QuietComfort line of headphones. Standard for noise canceling headphones.

Punk move by NFL, but nothing new here, IOC already done that.

I am using Shure se530 reshelled as custom IEM. Looking fwd buying KEF 500.

My friends and colleagues are rolling eyes when I talk headphone prices.

I don't get bose, who actually buys them. I've never met anyone with a bose anything?

I'm not says i prefer beats because oh boy i don't, but how is this company still making money to spend on NFL?

Anyone have profit figures and know what nose's best selling product is cos I sure as hell don't even know what it could be.

And to think the NFL is classified as a non-profit with the IRS. I may not love beats and really don't think apple needed to buy them but this stupid.

More free advertising for Apple intended to quash Apple from Softy companies they really do show their stupidity to Apples gain idiots.

Well, this USED t be the USA land of the free and all that now it all has gone to crap...

I think there would be less controversy if the NFL had issued this edict before the 2014 regular season started. But because it happened after the season started, then Apple may have potential grounds for a lawsuit.

The companies are starting to respond to the new landscape!
My most recent headphone purchase was after watching a BRUTALLY honest interview with Daniel Sennheiser at CES this year... He bluntly admitted that his company for generations had been an engineering company, solely trying to engineer the finest sound... that they knew NOTHING about fashion & that their sales took a beating while they learned a lesson.. that (suddenly), that is important.
He was wearing their response around his neck... I bought a pair the same day! The on-ear Momentums in green. Better looking by far than anything Beats has made. Simultaneously retro & modern... classy, hip, elegant- one of the handsomest pairs of cans I've ever seen! I put them up there with the burl wood Beyerdynamics.
Lol, I'm glad (though I'd NEVER own a pair) that Beats pushed the market forward in this way. As much as I love the impeccable sound of my Grado SR80i's, they are a terrible looking design... nothing fashionable about them whatsoever.... I could tell a Beats owner all day about how they cost me $150 and stomp the piss out of their $300+ pair, have them listen to what REAL clean, true, deep bass sounds like- but at the end of it all they could say "yeah, but I'm not gonna be caught wearing those" & I have no response.
It feels good to now own my first pair of "designer" cans that are also sound engineered to kick oh so much ass! Btw, they come in at $150 as well.

Largely agree however i feel it is much easier for a company like Beats (through apple) to move over and start creating cans that have a much better sound to them (through engineering) in addition to the design, compared to say a Sennheiser or AKG's to make a significant dent into the 60% premium market share (i assume in the US) of Beats by trying to produce better looking headphones and appeal to the fashion conscious market. Thats why companies around the world do not like dropping the ball. You let someone in that totally exploits a niche and runs away with the market, and then it becomes very very difficult to pull things back. Even companies like Bose that have had a huge marketing footprint for decades have felt the effect of Beats. It would be interesting to see Beats Hardware evolve now that apple has full control of them, I think 2015 models should start showing some apple influence although from what I have heard their latest headphones do offer a more balanced sound compared to their sound profile in the past.

The topic is NFL players are under contract to wear Bose and not Beats.
The players are not under contract to wear Bose. How did that idea form in your head? I could almost excuse the rest of your post but this is embarrassing.
You are under the delusion that they would never break a legal, social or moral contract. I have a laundry list that proves otherwise.
Find the quote where I said a player wouldn't break a contract. I'll save you some time, you can't. Also I will help you out since understanding the NFL doesn't seem to be your baliwick. To break a contract doesn't mean what you think it does. What you're talking about is a contract violations - players can be fined for those.
Are we supposed to start comparing specs of Beats vs. Bose because I don't see what else the topic could be about?
What could the topic be about? Well, it could be about the fact that you do not understand what the article is about and you have even less understanding about the NFL. That's pretty obvious.

Maybe you should find out what Bose's NFL sponsorship actually entails. It would quickly become clear to you that this is a standard NFL sponsorship. Also, despite what the MR headline suggests, this isn't a ban on Beats. It's all branded headphones AND headsets. Bose is already in the process of creating headsets to replace the Motorola headsets currently used by coaches on the sideline.

We use to have a saying back when i sold high end audio, "No highs, no lows, must be Bose." Not saying Beats are better, but Bose is over priced and over hyped themselves.

What do you suggest for quality in-ear headphones? I have tried a few in the $175-$220 range, but each lacked in one area or another. I appreciate it!

hmm I don't like Beats and I don't like BOSE but this just seems kind of wrong.

If I am a player, I wouldn't like it and I would want to be free to endorse any product I want to for my own gains rather than the owners' gains.
