What a great game last night. What made it even better was the Vikings lost! I am seeing this whole power struggle thing coming to a head during the playoffs and it will cost the Vikings.

The Colts won't be playing in a meaningful game until January 16th/17th. They should be more concerned about the effects of that on their team, given their one and dones in recent years. Rest/rust isn't a good thing for a precision passing game that Colts have...
Vikings are self destructing from within. The constant struggles between Childress and Lord Favre are not helping that locking room...

And you all make valid points. That being said, it really comes down to the coaches decisions and clearly Caldwell is more concerned about success in the playoffs (or at least potential success with all the first-string players) than he is a record season.

I guess were past that now -- Colts managed 14-0 which is respectable in its own right. Do I think they could have done 19-0? Sure. The possibility was definitely there. But let us not forget the Patriots flawless season that ended with a Giant asterisk on their record.

I guess we'll all just have to wait and see. Like I said in a previous post, I'm almost glad that they didn't win (sounds terrible coming from a die-hard Colts fan); it relieves some of the pressure from perfect season prospects. They're a phenomenal team and I don't think this loss should remove any of their credibility.

As president of the Indianapolis Colts, Bill Polian without question has been one of the most effective NFL executives during the past decade. Perhaps the best.

Before that he made the personnel moves that helped get the Buffalo Bills to three Super Bowls, plus one more the season after he left.

But none of that mattered last night when he took calls from irate Colts fans on his weekly radio show on HANK-FM.

StampedeBlue.com reports the show ended about 10 minutes early, apparently because of the wave of outrage over Indianapolis pulling its starters early in Sunday's loss to the Jets. As the website said, Polian essentially pulled himself early this time.

Callers drilled Polian's logic that injured players need to be protected, pointing out that the key ones who were benched -- Peyton Manning, Reggie Wayne and Dallas Clark -- didn't have any health issues.

Indianapolis Star columnist Bob Kravitz also wrote that his office received so many e-mails protesting the move that "you'd think this team just finished its sixth straight 3-13 season."

Cry me a friggin river. Get over it Colts fans.

Winning the Super Bowl is more important than running the table.

And while we're at it, 1972 Dolphins can **** too.

But that also doesn't mean the Jets get to gloat about winning the game either.

Think Ryan realizes that the Jets still have a chance at the playoffs??

Ok, a few days from now, my Eagles will probably be publicly humiliated.

So I appreciate the Flyers beginning to win again. It makes up for the pain that I will feel if the Eagles not only choke this weekend, but then again in the first round as well.

Looking forward to some good games. I'm sick of the college bowl crap. They need to cut half of them. If your bowl game goes 5 years consecutively without 60% attendance, it should be cut. Then again, if they keep adding games, MacRumors might get one. The MacRumors Bowl, between the 4th place MWC and the 5th place WAC teams. :)

Seriously. The BCS is possibly one of the most retarded "playoff" systems in existence.

And yet again for another year, the fans have voted that they want to scrap the BCS system and go for a playoff system.

To be honest, a playoff system is probably better but past few years, the BCS system has got it right. Florida was clearly the top team for the last couple of years and they got to play the second best team in the championship game. Where the BCS failed was few years back when Miami (FL) wasn't even in it and were arguably the best team in the nation (luckily for them, they took it personally and went on tear the next year to their championship). Again, it would probably be better to have a bracket like NCAAB.

I would like to state for the record that I'm very upset.

The biggest game of the day, the Eagles/Cowboys, is not televised in my area. The Broncos/Chiefs game is the late game. What a waste of electricity.

Grr.

Winning the Super Bowl is more important than running the table.

I disagree with both the premise (above) and the conclusion (therefore you should rest your players).

There's been one undefeated team ever. There's a superbowl winner every year. Quick (and without looking it up) - who won the superbowl in 1971? 73? 76? 82? Personally, I have no idea. But I know who won it in 72. And as a Pats fan, I'm 100% behind the decision to go for perfection instead of resting people in 07, even if it didn't work out.

Which brings me to my second point - even if you agree that winning the superbowl is more important than going undefeated, do you or anyone else know that the rest helps more than the rust hurts? Having almost a month without a real game can't be good for an offense's timing and execution. Maybe the rest outweighs that - and maybe not.

and as a final aside - it just seems gutless. put your players on the field and go for the glory. if you can win, win.

The Jets announced Wednesday that there will be no alcohol served at Sunday night's game against the Bengals at the Meadowlands.

Team spokesman Bruce Speight said the team makes the decision on a game-by-game basis and arrived at this decision after consulting with the New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority.

Speight said the decision was made, in part, because it's a night game, it's the final game of the season and it's the last game at Giants Stadium and there were concerns about fan behavior.

Excellent points.

I think if a team can win the Super Bowl but also have a Holy Grail type of year the Dolphins had, then it's as memorable as Jack and Tiger in golf, Sampras in tennis, and possibly up there with the 2004 Red Sox putting the curse to rest.

I think the two most memorable moments in sports history, American sports history, are the Red Sox in 2004, and Barry Bonds single season HR record breaking run.

Fox outbid CBS for the rights to broadcast NFC teams....
Fox and CBS both have rights to protect teams from NBC. Fox might have locked up the Cowboys/Eagles game weeks ago so NBC could not flex it. Or NBC used up it's quota.

anyone think miami'll make it?

the game is quite interesting, though...
