Is night mode enabled where the moon icon is highlighted yellow? If not, tap on it to enable.

yes, I even tried it on ten seconds, the image did not get much better. Brighter but otherwise nothing.

You have to have some low light available. No light or near black does not work. 3 seconds is default. If really dark, adjust it to 10 seconds.

lamp in the hallway on.

Just tried out the night mode on the beach (11 pro max)View attachment 861300

That looks like a nice evening.
Just tried night mode as well with an iPhone 7, iPhone XS and my new iPhone 11 Pro. It just blows them out of the water. This mode is the real deal. My take though, is that there can be noise on pictures in very dark conditions (to be expected) unless it’s on a tripod and can make the shutter even longer

I’m very impressed by the photos I’ve seen here! Amazing how much has changed, just over the iPhone Xs series. Haven’t tried it outside yet (will do today), but these below were made inside in what I’d say a pretty low-light

Despite Night Mode not being used in its full potential, I think these kind of photos represent how the average user will benefit from the feature. Many photos are made inside, and they usually simply suck. Night Mode makes it so much less of a pain in the ass. It’s great!

Looking forward making photos at night!

Well I finally got home from work and set up my 11 Pro. Wow. Night mode is awesome. Havent really been blown away by an iPhone feature since retina display in 2010. Glad I upgraded.

Night mode is one of the biggest reasons i upgraded...i love this feature and was jealous when the pixel had it but my iphone didn’t.

going on Hoilday in a few weeks and can’t wait to get some amazing night shots.

Pretty amusing reading comments on here on how they can’t get low light mode to work when there is No source of light to begin with.

How about basic photography 101? Do you guys even understand how low light photography works?

It’s a longer exposure time, which in return allows the sensor to absorb more light, but it needs some source of light to work. Moonlight, lamp post light, etc.

What's so funny about this is that it's not what's going on here. It's so much more than just longer exposure.

My phone has been off a couple of times for different reason but still no joy
It is possible for a room to be so dark that night mode still doesn’t have enough light to work. This is because the camera takes many photos and computationally adjusts the color based on the (little bit of) inputs that our own eyes can’t really see. But if the camera just sees black due to the absence of any light, it still can’t compute what the color would have been.

Agreed. In the little time I've played with it I've been just amazed with the results.
Same here. I had IP X which was good but the IP11 is a massive upgrade in low light photography and portrait mode. Like any smartphone there will be some degree of noise in photos when you really look. Also would like to see selfie camera have night mode and better image quality when it is wide mode. I believe the ultra wide mode has a higher pixel count. The IP 11 really does provide some great looking photos and I find the in camera is much better for editing photos now. For past few years the iPhone camera photo quality has lagged behind some of its main competitions and this year it finally has caught up and maybe surpassed them, especially when you think it already is king of video. All this competition means we as the consumer are winners.

I can honestly say, I thought the dark mode was automatic, and thought why isn't this working? Then I read this thread.

I had to go into the bathroom to find a dark space. I am not trying to be uncouth.

10 Sec - Door mostly open, but around the corner. Very dark to the eyes. Let's say this amount of light is non-functional for human use. Light is coming from natural sun - windows with binds closed in room down the hall.

10 Sec - Behind the curtain.

10 Sec - Door open only 6 inches. This is a brail situation.

10 Sec - Door closed, with a hint of light under the jam. To my eyes, in the room, there is no difference in light, when taking the last two photos. However technology knows the difference. Keep in mind for all of these photos, the live preview looks like, crap.

The only areas this phone camera is lacking is in zoom (should be at least 5x by now) and not having night mode for the selfie camera or the wide angle camera.
