Using my small tripod (monfrotto) and the MEfoto bracket, tonight I was getting a max exposure time of 30 seconds! Wow! 30 seconds. The exposure time evidently goes up much higher when the iPhone 11 pro is stabilized. Great results... boring subject but great results.

Here's something for comparing your iPhone with an 2018 android device... photo is compressed...

A shot of the stars I took ended up looking just like that but I lowered the brightness to make the stars pop out more. Makes for a great wallpaper for the OLED iPhones.

So seeing some sky shots with Night Mode, I decided to do a midnight experiment. I pulled out a small tripod and phone clip. I discovered if you are hand holding the iPhone, your Night Mode is limited to 10 seconds. However if you are on a tripod, the Night Mode will take a 28 second capture. So that is what you see here. A 28 second capture of the night sky over Northern California, using the telephoto lens. You cannot see this with your naked eyes. There's too much light pollution. However I suppose going out to the country side, might yield better results.

This shot is using the Slow Sutter App. It's a 60 second shot of the same as above. However I didn't have the freedom to choose the framing. I need to play with the program more.

Here's the shot again, running for 277 seconds. I didn't have a timer. However my dog came by and wondered what I was doing. I figured it was enough time. The blip in the light trail, is the delay from the previous image to the second, still the open shutter time is listed in the exif data.

This is exactly what I've been wanting to see. Would love to get an astronomer on this.

Taken just before the start of a drone show. The building was approximately 50 yards away, and the only real source of light. No editing. The drone launch was just to the left of the building.

iPhone 8 and iPhone 11 Pro.

I spent this evening in a 18th Century re-enactment camp in the heart of a park that has very few security lights, or even cell coverage. I felt it was the perfect place to test Night Mode on my iPhone 11 Pro Max. The only source of lighting in these photos come from the candles and lanterns in the photos. No editing of any sort.

Before anyone makes a comment on the Farb (modern bottles and dress on some of the participant), I can only say that the photos were taken well after hours with no public present and the participants being comfortable. I was not trying to take “Period Photos,” but was testing Night Mode On my iPhone.

This last photo was shot of the moonless night sky with the phone on a tripod and Night Mode set at 28 seconds.

I noticed that sometimes when I’m using night mode, the on screen preview of the picture moves slightly (a few millimeters) right before you hear the shutter sound. Does this happen to everyone?
The weird thing is it is not consistent, even when taking the same picture twice.. sometimes it will do it and sometimes it won’t. Either way it doesn’t look like this is affecting image quality.

Night mode is very impressive and shows good detail depending on distance of course

I just put together this comparison between my iPhone X and iPhone 11 Pro Max, shooting the same thing in a very dark room, on a tripod.

The only areas this phone camera is lacking is in zoom (should be at least 5x by now) and not having night mode for the selfie camera or the wide angle camera.

You mean superwide. The selfie camera does a decent job considering how bad the old one was. But yeah. I am a little disappointed the tele night mode shots are just cropped ones from the wide, but its better than nothing.
