Interesting, but it's a solution to a problem that doesn't really exist. We're pretty good at adjusting our shoes manually.

Could have made the same argument for wire connected keyboards and ear buds - that don't require batteries that wear out over time - and yet look where the market went with those.

At $350 though, its a select group of customers that will pay for these.

"For example, during a timeout, a player can loosen the shoe before tightening it up as they re-enter the game. In a forthcoming feature, Nike says players will also be able to prescribe a different tightness setting for warm-ups."

Pretty sure Nike already has this innovation. It's called, re-tying your shoelaces.

A solution to a problem that doesn't exist!
This is tech for the sake of tech in my opinion.

"I'll meet you there, I need to charge my shoes first"

Actually they are about 4 years too late inventing these - at least according to some guy who had a flying Delorian.

Whats the next item I will have to charge? My underwear?
They already have battery powered thermal underwear.

For most people it's not a necessity, but there's also the audience of people with disabilities that this could be incredibly useful.

It's not like this is a shift away from traditional shoes, so why not do it? I wonder if they'll be able to expand on it in a way to really change how well your shoes tighten to your feet with different connecting points and an automated system to do it all?

Next version should make the shoes charge itself. Every steps can generate energy.

I LOVE the look of this shoe. If it comes out without all the tech, I might have to forego my rule of buying all my shoes discounted on eBay and pick up a pair. Love 'em.

People don't get that. They immediately think, 'So stupid. Who needs this stupid technology.' People fail to look at the big picture. The influence this type of tech introduction has for the disabled, health possibilities, auto loosing and tightening for diabetics that are prone to getting swollen feet, use on flights for people who have circulation issues, is endless. This is the type of technology we should be celebrating, not brushing off as nonsense. It goes the same for Apple's foray into health with Apple Watch.
