You have the right to disagree and to be wrong.
1. Hipster is not a race.
2. Of course his comments were racist. Tim Cook is white and 54. Does that make him a boring businessman?
3. Using a cliche is just an attempt to make one's racism acceptable. If I cite a cliche about another race to make a racist reference, it doesn't make it right.

I agree. You don't refer to others by their race in a derogatory tone unless you are of the same race. Now, I'm not saying Patel is the Indian equivalent of a Neo-Nazi or whatever, but his tweet was racist.

----------

In addition, it's fairly clear that he just meant that an old white guy wouldn't understand a young hip guy like him :)rolleyes:), which is a far cry from calling someone the n-word. Seriously, do we have to explain this? His rant was extremely immature and ill-advised, but not because it was racist.

The racist commentary just made an immature, rude tweet worse. And, I'm sure he probably meant it as you described, but if I dropped the N bomb to refer to a stereotype (and everyone knows of a few, our society is full of them), it doesn't mean I am
a racist, but I've still just made a racist comment. I'm a white chick.

Know what I mean?

Right. The fellow has shown a complete lack of discipline, so he is fat. He displays an undeniable sense of thin skinned arrogance, a childish attitude, and spewed hate towards mild criticism and you think calling him on it is racist.

We are doomed, no one can think anymore.

The irony of Patel and the irony of some of these posts. So entertaining! :)

Or...turn off the notifications by app...or enable do not disturb... or *gasp* turn the phone to airplane/power reserve mode.

My issue is that he created a scenario and dramatically reacted to the fact that there are so many notifications on this phone when, with just a little bit of forethought, he could've prevented all of those notifications himself. Did he go into as elaborate detail and how you can turn off those notifications, and what options you have in that scenario as he did creating the scenario and the hyperbole about the notifications themselves? He did not.
Based on that, I have a hard time taking the majority of his review seriously.

Interesting. That's not how it came across to me.

I thought he had some valid points. The discussion at the bar with constant interruptions particularly resonated with me because that's what my job can be like. Too many people "talking" at once and drowning each other out in meetings. So much so that nothing gets achieved. The review illustrated that situation quite creatively. It was supposed to be annoying and frustrating.

Personally, I prefer one-to-one conversations. I can mute the phone and IM and focus on the discussion at hand without other people butting in competitively. It looks like I'd now need to remove my watch too.

I disagree. Nilay was clearly referring to the cliché of the old white -and boring- businessman. Now this is mean - but it is not racist. It does not imply that old white men were something lesser. Like would you call it racist if you called someone a hipster?

The "cliché" is only about old 'white' businessman being boring now is it, as opposed to just any businessman - black or white - being boring when they are old?
And even if the cliché' really was specifically about 'white' businessmen, how is a racist cliché any better than a random racist comment? Isn't it actually worse?

Like would you call it racist if you called someone a hipster?

No, but add coloured, black or brown to that and it becomes racist. You can guarantee the sky would have fallen if some young tech writer had called Patel an 'old brown hipster' as part of an insult.

Maybe I am wrong about people overacting. It looks like Patel has made several blanket statements about "white men" in the past.

Macgeek01, are you affiliated with this situation or twitter battle? Now it seems like you're just ramming the guy...

I'm actually Gasse, you caught me! It seems apparent you haven't read all my comments.

This thread was intended to be light hearted and amusing. Then I though people were twisting it into something it wasn't but now see there may be some valid points. May this be the last post as this topic has been exhausted.

This thread has been funny, sad, angry, and ironic. Truly prolific but must end like all good things. I will grip my blanky tightly tonight like Patel does his studded braclets in fear he may haunt me in his sleep seeking revenge.

His complaint was that he was running thru the airport with a bag in one hand and the Apple watch on the next
In order to get his boarding pass on the watch he had to put the bag down and use both hands on the watch

The hype guy tried to step in and say in a nice way that he was being ridiculous but got shut down quickly

Lol a Nilay, what a sucker. He couldn't of just made one remake and left it alone. I hope he gets reprimanded for poorly representing the blog he is a part of.

It's worth posting again:

Oh my, god forbid you let go of your bag for 2 seconds to bag a plane. Also, "hey Siri, open passbook"

This guy is a tool.

You shouldn't diss him, I'm pretty sure they give him super (douche) powers!

That pic will never get old LOL

It's really turned into somewhat of a meme.
