One should probably not complain about the poor acting in Daredevil when one's own acting in the fake bar scene is pretty poor.

I've never been a fan of Nilay, but man this takes it to a whole new level. I used to really like the Verge before he became top dog. I still like the layout and flow of the site but the content now is awful.

Time to stop visiting all together until they put someone worthwhile in charge.

Some general observations...

1) Nilay overreacted.

2) The milanese loop is overrated.

3) This tantrum doesn't invalidate the criticisms he had for Apple Watch in the Verge.

4) He REALLY overreacted.

5) Criticising his reaction is fair play.

6) That spiked bracelet is hilarious

7) profmatt brings up a fair point. Some of the harsh comments I see in this thread come from posters who flipped their **** when they saw the Verge review. I question why they feel the need to pile on the strongest. Hmm...

The milanese loop is overrated according to who? Nilay Patel?

I didn't say anything about the Verge review. I felt he wasn't the best qualified to give it, but he's entitled to his opinion. But his Twitter meltdown was very childish, unprofessional, and racist and makes it difficult to take him seriously.

You people are awful!

Dude's mom finally gives him permission to wear the spiked bracelet and everyone makes fun of him.

Ehhh.

I think people were will within their right to call BS when they saw BS. While I am an avid fan of the Apple Watch, I am also someone who do realize the importance of reviews in general. For him to be an Editor-in-Chief of the Verge, & not just a simple writer, its surprising just how bad it was. & no, I'm not saying its bad because he was critical & negative towards the watch, I'm saying it's bad because it wasn't well researched, it was way too personal & not objective, and there was just amateur journalism mistakes made. I mean he completely left out ANYTHING about battery life in his review. That alone makes it subpar. The review itself is being completely overshadowed by the person who wrote it, and that's VERY bad.

I personally think that review was just clickbait, and it worked lol.

The good old days were when "Metalheads" & "Punk" (see Pistols and The Exploited) style isn't stolen by trendy idiots.

"I wear the thing as a studied reminder that I do not want ever to fit in or be a fu**ing suit."

Last time I checked rebels don't care what other people think...oh wait...

The whole sorry thing was a draw, IMHO.

No, not even close. The review itself was not bad (albeit we got a glimpse of his ego with "definitive"). And I agree with most of his observations. But, Nilay's tweets were outrageous. And plainly ageist and racist. And then disparaging his appearance by posting JLG's pic and saying "I'd rather look like me"?? The guy should be fired.

Imagine if JLG has tweeted "young brown punk"?? It would be WW III

Not to mention his self-aggrandizing drivel but how he's not a suit... What a c@ck.

I don't get why people get so involved on social media when your "in the public eye".

Should have ignored it or turned into a joke like i'll be sure to mail you one tomorrow morning".

Yet now he looks like a donkey. As someone in the tech field, Nilay should have known better.

Not seen in the review: His shoes.

Agreed, I'm shocked he took it so personal. You'd think after wearing that thing for 15+ years he'd be use to the occasional stares/questions/comments. Don't wear things to stand out if you don't want to stand out. The guy has no class

I wonder if he has drawers just full of these things.

Has there been any ancillary news to this tirade such as other news outlets or blogs drawing attention to this? Or does he get away with his behavior and public comments that reflect poorly on his professionalism? In other industries, by other types of workers, I don't think such public comments are tolerated and are met with some consequences such as fines, leaves, or loss of position. It was pretty inappropriate IMO.

Nilay Patel
Editor-in-chief of Destruction
No one asked me — we just started production and I thought about making 32 people work on this project for a week and having even a single comment be about how gross my arm hair looked in photos. So read I a few bodybuilding forums for tips, had a few drinks, and went for it.

What funny is all the comments about it — I also got a haircut, trimmed my beard, and had stylists apply makeup every day for a week while I wore a suit. No one’s mentioned any of that!

So he shaved his arms, wore a suit and makeup, sorry, the studded wristband is a joke now, Nilay is a "suit" or worse a hypocrite.

I'm reminded of a song by the Who,

Meet the new boss
Same as the old boss

They started a thread in the Meta forum, and it was locked pretty quickly.
