The most important part of PERSONAL style is being self confident... When someone wears something that most people find hideous and wears it with confidence it becomes a trend. When you lose your ***** and lash out at people NO MATTER WHAT THEY SAID TO YOU - you come off as the lesser person. He is a man in a prominent position in the public eye... Comments such as his - whether truly racist or not (I think not but who knows his intent) are unprofessional.

I think he may face repercussions. Hope the Apple watch doesn't end his career.

I sort of hope it does to be honest, the last editor of the Verge wrote a couple of articles after signing NDA's about what he was shown, one of them was an iOS 8 beta, and got The Verge put on Apple's blacklist, they were removed evidently after Katie retired and J Topolsky resigned from The Verge and went to Bloomberg.

And I gotta tell you as an old white male, and as a old white male that's won a sizeable EEO settlement, it gets old being the whipping boy of every fool that thinks they have free reign to be racist *******s.

Once he referred to race ("old white man"), he instantly lost all credibility for me. This is 2015. Hopefully his career heads south after this.

But this is normal Patel. Has anyone ever heard him guest on a podcast?

Anyone over 50 is out of touch in his opinion and he is disdainful of their views.

He was on a TWIT episode with John C. Dvorak and basically conveyed the same 'old white guy' attitude towards John when his opinion differed than Patels.

Wow what a moron. These tweets were cringey. The Verge should be mortified they employ a man who acts like that. Not professional at all.

As for repercussions, for his behavior in a public forum like this with his career in the public eye... With his comments being tied to The Verge as well, he should be asked to look elsewhere for employment.

"I felt ridiculous wearing the Milanese Loop, so I didn't."

That's personal opinion, I also believe its feminine, I've tried it and would feel ridiculous wearing it, are you saying I and others are not allowed to state this?

...
I distinctly remembered this line when I watched the Verge's review last week. I was left wondering why he felt the milanese loop was ridiculous. Is it too glitzy? Looks cheap? Is it uncomfortable? He doesn't give his reason. It didn't even occur to me that some might think it looks feminine.

Everyone has different opinions on what looks good and what doesn't — and they're all valid. Fashion is a personal choice and styles are always changing.

However, my attention was focused on the watch, not Nilay's other wrist. I think it's hilarious and am glad someone pointed it out, because indicates that Nilay might not be the ultimate authority on what's fashionable and what's not.

I like to hear other opinions — I want to understand why they feel that way. If I didn't, I wouldn't be reading.

This is more about his Twitter comments more than anything. I'm not sure why you choose to ignore them. Even if he was one of my personal friends I would have to admit he stepped out of line and have a laugh about it

I'm not ignoring his tweeter comments. He is an idiot to have posted that as a journalist, unprofessional. Simple at that.

At the Same time I am not ingoring the comments by some of our members prior to this tweeter outburst. Yours in not one of those. They happened just after the review came out.

Stopped reading the Verge a long time ago. Deleted them from my social media accounts when they started to spam clickbait articles about the Apple Watch. They lost a lot of talent over the years and what's funny is that most of them did an Apple Watch review.

Topolsky - Bloomberg review
Joanna Stern - NY Times review
David Pierce - Wired review

All are better reviews than Patels.

I wonder if he has drawers just full of these things.

The pic of him in the shades is the first pic I ever saw of him and I remember thinking "what a pri*k" when I came across it on Twitter. He also seems to be making sure its visible in every photo, like he is really proud of it or something. Maybe it has a secret meaning that we are not aware of. Maybe he wears it to remember a fallen homie?

I'd hope he wouldn't disrespect fallen homie like that...

Finally weighing in on this.

Yes, what a moron Mr. Patel is. Surprised The Verge still has him on their payroll after his public temper tantrum.

I was also very alarmed about the comment that the Milanese loop looked too "feminine" on him.

...and then to see that trashy, obnoxious piece of jewelry on his other wrist shows that he has no fashion sense whatsoever and shouldn't be giving out authoritative advice to anyone.

You know what that overly large piece of jewelry says? "Look at me, I am an overly-conceited arrogant individual." Most people that wear such blatantly oversized jewelry for show usually are.

I can't even begin to imagine what it's like to work with Nilay.

Imagine the in-fighting going on before, and then after his Twitter tirade.

He's just opened himself to a lifetime of insults and digs. Even if there isn't an immediate effect, this type of behavior is the type of thing that will snowball his career in another direction.

Maybe he can go back to being a lawyer in a suit.

Someone should tweet Mr. Patel this MacRumors link.

Think he would enjoy coming here and reading these comments.

I don't have a Twitter account to do it with

Pretty much everybody likes Jean-Louis, and for good reason.

Except of course Steve Jobs. According to him "Jean-Louis Gassée is evil. I don't say that about many people, but he is evil."

Now, Tim and Jony being the good sports they are I'm sure they're already working on a studded Apple Watch bracelet for Nilay...
