I'm surprised, people would pay $4.99 to play Mario all day long and this is what they decided would be their first release? Who comes up with this stuff? They obviously know something I don't. I don't see myself or anyone I know downloading and playing this.

Exactly, pretty much everyone posting on this thread have disliked this 'game' from Nintendo, apart from 2 people who are adamant that no-one wants to play mario on a mobile device..... o_O

You may think you want to play Mario on a mobile device, but playing a Mario game with touch screen buttons is akin to trying to play without hands as far as I'm concerned.

Anyone surprised at this announcement hasn't paid any attention to Iwata's announced plans for mobile software apparently. From day one they've said they don't intend on making any "real" games for mobile and instead their mobile initiative would be companion apps and other unique products designed to establish the Nintendo brand with kids and funnel users into their actual hardware where the real games are.

Well they're nearer bankruptcy than any other company in the industry. They reported a $228m loss last year. 3rd year of losses in a row. No reality distortion field there.
I think Sony had that honor until fairly recently. So much so that if Playstation 4 faltered the whole company was likely to shutter.

I really think people forget that Nintendo sells their own dedicated portable console. Why they seem to think that they would just port all their IPs is beyond me.

Nintendo's financials are down because they royally ****ed up with the Wii U.

They make a ton of money selling Amiibo figures now. Nintendo is a strong company financially that will be around 20 years from now

I'm not saying they will disappear but ****ing up with the Wii U and no new console on the way is not really a good thing in the console world.

And if you look at the financial results you can only conclude that that "ton of money" from Amiibo figures does not really offset the loss of income from non occurring Wii U sales.

You keep bringing this up, but there is no reason why Nintendo could not issue a controller for mobile devices and put their classic games archive (metroid, Mario) etc on the App Store. Same basic experience as the 3DS but with a 100 times larger potential market.

Everyone keeps saying this, but does that mean that Apple would allow an emulator, or are folks expecting Nintendo to spend $ converting these games for play on iOS? Then is everyone going to get mad at Nintendo for not updating these games to run on newer versions of iOS indefinitely?

Nobody wants to drag around a controller with them to play phone games; and if you're willing to bring around an extra device just to play games, why not pick up a 3DS instead?

I'm also not really sure why everyone keeps harping on their "classic games archive". The folks that want to play these games on their phones already are, and the general public wouldn't want to pay $5 for Super Mario Bros when they can play Angry Birds for free.

To people wanting a virtual Dpad with old Nintendo games, buy Sonic CD on iOS and tell me that game isn't a royal pain in the ass without buttons.

Go buy Chrono Trigger or Secret of Mana and get back to me.

They are insanely hard to play without buttons.

Now imagine something like Castlevania or Contra (both Konami properties by the way)

This is a pretty lame argument if you ask me. Can't play games on a touchscreen, give me a break. If you can play Madden Football on a touchscreen you can surly play Mario what do you need left and right and jump? Also lame games aren't going to "funnel" people to hardware its going to "push" them away. Can't play on a touchscreen, trying play without hands what world are you actually living in.

You're claiming to know what I'm thinking or wanting? Try again. There are tons of people using emulators on android/iOS devices and have no issues with on screen controls, others use BT controllers. You keep banging on about on screen controls, but there's many games, that are popular, that invalidate your statement. Your personal preference is not the be all and end all.

Also, not surprised, just didn't expect the lame duck they did announce.

You're saying Nintendo are where the real games are? That just explains everything....

Apple do allow emulators, as long as they are legal. Why do you say they won't? Also, Nintendo will hardly have to spend much time or effort, look at the people that have made emulators and ROMS.

To people wanting a virtual Dpad with old Nintendo games, buy Sonic CD on iOS and tell me that game isn't a royal pain in the ass without buttons.

There's many people using Nintendo/Sega emulators on Android and iOS and are more than content. Want to try again?

The madden games for iOS are AWFUL and control like crap.

You need buttons and a dpad

So, the 2 of you don't like it, so the rest of us have to suffer? Selfish much?
Suffer? Buy Sonic CD on iOS. Play it with the virtual Dpad and buttons.

Keep in mind Mario games typically had either a "run modifier" button or analog control.

Sonic games do not.

You simply can't control a Mario game with a virtual Dpad and buttons. It's impossible without a peripheral that Nintendo isn't going to make.

I respectfully disagree.

I wasn't aware you were suffering. Surely there are hundreds, if not thousands of games that are quite similar to Mario on the App Store?

I don't think he meant it literally you realize you are on the internet correct? I hope you don't take everything on the internet literal.

Nintendo has repeatedly stated that their mobile offerings are going to be different than their mainline games. That even if they use a mainline character like Mario it is not going to be in the same vein as their console games nor are they going to emulate their games with digital control pads. They have stated this over and over again and yet people are still shocked?

So, again, you both cannot respond pleasantly to a post, so you attack it.

I've played on the nintendo emulator on iOS, and it was perfectly fine and enjoyable. Just because you both dislike it, does not mean the rest of us do.

Games that are 'similar' to Mario, are not Mario, also it's not just Mario I would play, I'd play Zelda and Metroid, to just name a couple. It's a combination of nostalgia and the enjoyment of the original games.

All you 2 are doing is telling everyone else their opinions are wrong and that we do not get to have the choice, simply because you deem it so.
