I didn't mind paying the $10 at all. I do wish that it weren't tied to a Nintendo account and was able to be shared around my household, but the game has been fun for me. My favorite video game of all time is Super Mario Bros. Wii, and since I don't have a Wii U, this is my fix until I decide whether I want to buy the Switch.

Jeez get over the pricing!! Back when Super Mario Bros 3 came out it was $50! Nowadays that would be about $93. $9.99 is not THAT bad. The always on connection is WAY worse.

Yet SMB 3 with full controller support is a better game then this touch, touch, touch endless runner crap. And comparing game worth from the eighties and early nineties is plan silly. Console gaming was growing by leaps and bounds at that time with new ideas that we take for granted today. To play Street fighter or Mortal Kombat from the comfort of your home was priceless. Back in my day I spent $20 to $40 at the arcade. You 20 year olds have no clue what we had to do back in the 80's. So it concerns me when Nintendo cheapens the experience to make a quick buck.

I do find it slightly odd that people who buy an iPhone that is upwards of $1000, aren't willing to buy software for it at $10, $5, $1, etc. What is the purchasing barrier for people?

Can anyone with insight explain this?

I wish it was $9.99 UP-FRONT.

1) It would get rid of the 1-star reviews from people just upset about the "pay wall" (and not about the game)

2) It would actually let me share the purchase with my family. I don't want to spend another $30 on the game so I can share it.

3) This one is minor - but it would make sure the game is playable in the future, when there isn't an App Store to connect to to "restore purchases".

Online only? Lots of games are online only.
$10 for a Nintendo game? From the company that keeps first-party titles priced at $39.99 for half a decade and has terrible eShop sales?
This is the only true complaint. Their purchase scheme is a SCAM, and if it were it any other developer, the App would be yanked for dealing such shady practices.

I really don't understand the internet connection requirement. It's Apple's job to secure the platform; that's part of what they get their cut for. Why is piracy such a big problem that Nintendo can require it? Isn't it a sign to the developers of other top-selling iOS games like GTA and Minecraft that they should all require an internet connection too, because Apple has failed to secure the platform?

If they have a problem with piracy on iOS, they should put pressure on Apple to do something about it, telling them that it's preventing them from investing in the platform. That's the proper way to go about it; not to treat your customers like criminals and make the game unplayable for many due to security checks.

I didn't buy the game, so I can't review its actual content. I was excited for it, but I'd expect a bigger game for $10 than what this seems to be. It doesn't take a fortune to design a few more 2D Mario platforming maps. If they do add more maps, I expect them to charge for it, so I just didn't think it was good enough value to buy. Maybe if it goes on sale at some point...

Seems a bit unfair to me. All of this was public beforehand. So rate the game knowing the rules.
Excuse me? Their SCAM method of purchase was not public beforehand. Nintendo has done something no other developer has been able to pull off, and make purchasing a full game limited to 1 device (you can't even restore it if you delete the App!).

I can't believe people are whining about $10. Are folks really that cheap now? This is actually VASTLY preferable to the microtransaction "pay for in-game supplies" HELL that mobile gaming has become.

My main complaint with the game is that it requires an internet connection to play. I'm also annoyed that the gameplay isn't more flexible; not being able to run backwards is annoying and I really miss playing with shells which is pretty much my FAVORITE Mario mechanic that is basically non-existent in this game.

I'm on the fence as to whether to pay; the online requirement and funny business with a "Nintendo account" is a serious ethical issue for me. Is app store piracy really that rampant? I don't even know anyone who has a jailbroken iPhone anymore.

I'm still puzzled that with the advent of the App Store suddenly games or programs that used to cost 40€ now have to be either free or cost no more then 99 cents. I really don't get it. A 1000€ iPhone Plus but no money for developers?

I don't understand how anyone can give them $10 knowing your purchase is not secure, nor transferrable to any of your own personal devices.

These are people expecting a steak at McDonald's pricing. Good luck with that.

Don't compare this game to a steak. It's just temple run 2D with a very polished Super Mario theme added. There are many well designed/very fun FULL games that are either free to $5 on the app store right now. $10 is being greedy. The multiplayer rally feature of Super Mario Run isn't even live multiplayer. You compete against someone's prerecorded ghost. Meanwhile, I can play against anyone around the world in Clash Royale LIVE and it costs 0 dollars.

I don't know where you get this idea. All developers can limit family sharing.

also, you can install Mario Run on multiple iOS devices with the same iTunes login without buying it again.

GOOD. Maybe the endless call from investors for Nintendo to go all in on mobile can finally die. They should stay the hell away from mobile and do what they're good at.

I don't mind the $10 price. I do mind the always-connected requirement. Until that is changed, I am voting with my wallet and holding out.

Nintendo, just literally release the original Super Mario Bros. and its sequels and you will make a lot of money for very little work. Seriously, the original already runs well under emulation, but an absolute ton of people would buy them since most want to avoid the complication and sketchy (both technical and ethical) ramifications of installing an emulator on their iPhones or iPads. Make a Mario level designer ala Mario Maker for iOS, and you make even more. I and a lot of other people would buy that the instant it was released....

Love Nintendo games, would happily pay, but I find the always-on requirement and their justifiction for it unacceptable. I won't even download the free trial, which is good for them because it means I can't leave a bad review.

Because not everyone plays mobile games on a phone. If I'm going to waste my time gaming I'm going to waste it playing grade A computer games followed by console with real controllers. Not touch and gyroscope based gaming with in app purchases and micro transactions. Heck, a Nintendo 3DS is a better gaming console than a $1000 iPhone.
If Apple would come out with its own case/grip with quality controllers for iPhones and completely support gaming with home made titles then Apple would fully dominate in mobile gaming.

It will control like **** without physical button. Nintendo is in the hardware business. They don't want to cheapen their ips with frustrating touch controls.

It would also wreck nintendos hardware business. They aren't going to do that.

My biggest issue is obviously the family sharing aspect. While $20 for my wife and I doesn't seem like a lot, it is for a game that people are saying they solved within hours of release.

Which leads to my second biggest issue, and that is I just genuinely don't enjoy the gameplay. I don't like the automatic jump over small objects and enemies, takes a lot of the fun out of the game. I'm confused as to why they are able to make a Game like Madden and GTA, but yet somehow can't come up with just a regular Mario game for the phone.

Does anyone know if they are planning on adding more worlds as we go along?

2) Look for my last posts on the forum. There's a way to share the purchase so you don't have to pay more.

3) Purchases are tied to the Nintendo ID.... which is the key to allow you to share the purchase with my method.

€10 is a reasonable price for a game like this. Compared to recent games such as New Super Mario Bros. 2, the game has a respectable number of levels, which are not even that much shorter. That game is currently sold for €45. You get a lot of value out of it and it seems to be quite polished for a version 1.0 release. We also have to consider that Apple takes a cut as well.

I won’t buy this game though, because of the decision to require an Internet connection. It is impractical and frankly insulting. If they remove that, I will buy it at once.

As much money as I have spent in my life on Nintendo, they should be paying me to play that game. Am I right fellas, or what?!? Lol!

For those of you with the Family Sharing problem!

No need to multiple buy. I explained how to do it some posts ago.

1.- On Device with Apple ID "A": Download App, login with your Nintendo ID ("A"), & buy the 9,99 full unlock.

2.- If the person who you want to share your purchase with doesn't have a Nintendo ID, create one on accounts.nintendo.com.

3.- On Device with Apple ID "B", sign out from the App Store, and sign in with Apple ID "A". Download the game. Open it. SKIP NINTENDO ID CONFIG, complete the tutorial and press to buy the 9,99 full unlock. Say yes to purchase and introduce password. It will say you've already downloaded it and that it will be free. Then link the game with the Nintendo ID "B" account or the one you've created. This will tell your "B" account that you have unlocked the full game. Wait one minute so it syncs.

4.- Close the game, delete it. Sign out from the App Store. Sign in with you Apple ID "B" account. Download the free game. Open it. DURING setup, link it with the Nintendo ID "B" account. To link it, if it only offers to create new accounts, clic on the top left where it says Nintendo account which will bring you to a login page. After login in, press the blue OK at the top and an error will appear. Ignore it. Try again the Nintendo ID linking and know the page that opens will say that you're already logged in and there will be a big button to use the account with the game.

5.- And you're all set. You'll se that you have the full game unlocked.
