Tried the game during a 2 hour commute on the weekend, complete waste of time . I was happy to pay the app price, but not for a game that is unplayable . Sorry Nintendo , major fail for what could have been such a fun game

Games with constant internet belong on desktops.

Excuse me? Their SCAM method of purchase was not public beforehand. Nintendo has done something no other developer has been able to pull off, and make purchasing a full game limited to 1 device (you can't even restore it if you delete the App!).

Yes you can. You have to link the game to a Nintendo ID.
[doublepost=1482175841][/doublepost]
I don't understand how anyone can give them $10 knowing your purchase is not secure, nor transferrable to any of your own personal devices.

Yes it is. Look above

For those of you comparing it to a DS/3DS/NES game, this game has far LESS levels and replay-ability than those games so I'm sorry you're wrong.

According to this website, New Super Mario Bros. 2 has 9 worlds, with about 10 levels each. Super Mario Run has 6 worlds, with 4 levels each. Levels are generally played under 2 minutes (as the game still pressures for time). Roughly comparing €10 to €45, I think that you still get good value.

I just read this.

I've been defending Nintendo this whole time regarding Super Mario Run, but if this is true, then I'll be gravely disappointed and then the game is definitely doomed and deserves to be for this stupid mistake.

tl;dr - No DLC, free or paid, coming to Super Mario Run according to a Nintendo representative.

Are people going to complain when fully-featured games at full price appear on the App Store? Like seriously stop complaining. $10 is a good price.

People's notions that Apps should be priced low is ridiculous...

I never expected full Mario on iOS, it's a mobile game, a one-handed Mario and it's fine. My problem is the cost is too high without being shareable on all devices you own and manage with your Apple iTunes account. If I buy another other game up front, I can download it across my devices. Bottom line, nobody wants to pay $10 per device they want to play it on when almost everything else isn't set up that way.

Why is it stupid to not have DLC?

2) It would actually let me share the purchase with my family. I don't want to spend another $30 on the game so I can share it.

That was the reason I didn't buy it. Everyone in my family would have wanted to play it on their own device = $40 for a pretty simple game. It should have simply been a $9.99 game up front.

Have no problem with the price. I just really didn't like the game. I wanted a classic Mario game, where you move around yourself. I truly hate treadmill/run style games. I kept open mind, downloaded, played a bit and deleted the app soon after.

GOOD. Maybe the endless call from investors for Nintendo to go all in on mobile can finally die. They should stay the hell away from mobile and do what they're good at.

Nintendo can do mobile, just not this way.

1. Pay up front, make a demo and a paid version.
2. Use the touchscreen and motion controls, be innovative. Not just tap to jump, use swipes, etc.
3. Put out DLC

Because not everyone plays mobile games on a phone. If I'm going to waste my time gaming I'm going to waste it playing grade A computer games followed by console with real controllers. Not touch and gyroscope based gaming with in app purchases and micro transactions. Heck, a Nintendo 3DS is a better gaming console than a $1000 iPhone.
If Apple would come out with its own case/grip with quality controllers for iPhones and completely support gaming with home made titles then Apple would fully dominate in mobile gaming.

Apple already fully dominates mobile gaming...

Why is it stupid to not have DLC?

Uh, because the game will die because it's so short and will have no DLC?

I paid $10 for a short game and was OK with it because I was hoping for AT LEAST one free DLC pack that would eventually make the price worth it.

But apparently that's not the case. Such an unbelievable shame.

I don't think it's right to say the decline is in reaction to some complaints. This is a common but faulty rhetorical tactic in online flame wars, not something I'd put in an article. The reason for the decline could be that hype for the launch is now simply over. Many traders will buy before the event, then sell right after the event when the price is at it's height. We see this at Apple events. Also, there may be an industry-wide downturn. You have to check these things.

The assumption is always that "my pet issue is causing this stock to decline". It's very ignorant of how the market works.

Fair play - good points.

You absolutely can download to all your devices while only paying once. Just go to the purchase screen and once you go to purchase it will say that you already downloaded and do you want to download for free. Just make sure you either don't log in to a Nintendo acct. or create different ones for the different people in your house.

Millions of people who would have spent zero dollars on the game anyway, complaining that the game is too expensive. Stock tanks.

The economics of mobile gaming is f'ed up.

I vote with my wallet. I spend zero dollars on pay-to-win games, but have spent hundreds of dollars, gladly, on pay-up-front or single-iap to unlock stuff games. Including this one. Although most often I only get a few hours of fun, I get zero hours on pay-to-win games. And once in a while I hit a gem that gives me hundreds of hours. This is how gaming always worked, and it was never an issue. Now, iOS gaming is basically useless, almost all games that could have been good, are p2w nightmares.

While I thought the price was a bit too high, I still shelled out the $10 (albeit I have plenty of iTunes credit). I think the game would have been better suited at $5 instead (but I also don't work at Nintendo!).

For comparison, I own PS3 games that cost me or whoever gave it to me as a gift 60 bucks, which I've spent 5 hours tops playing. Spend 5 bucks renting a movie, and I get 2-3 hours of entertainment, with zero "replayability".

It's not SMR that's expensive, its the complete mobile gaming economics that's skewed. No, it's not a "full game". But 10 bucks is not full price either. Not cheap, but still fair.

Oh and one other suggestion.

Remove the auto vault over enemies. It's a simple game that doesn't need simplied further.

To get past enemies we either jump over them or on top of them. The fact Mario can run into them and just vault over them with zero collision detection or harm to the player is poor.

I think the biggest problem in getting rid of the auto-vault is the lack of directional air control since you have no control over forward progress. Nintendo probably implemented it for exactly that reason. It's actually more challenging to hit enemies with a normal jump than it is in other Mario games. You can now hit enemies by tapping during the vault, which probably provides enough challenge for the touchscreen control scheme. Otherwise I totally understand your sentiment; I grew up on old Atari and NES games.

Actually this was one of the intentions of IAP that was widely talked about back when IAP was introduced. A number of people and developers wanted a demo mode that didn't require a free "lite" app and the full paid app both independently produced for the App Store. It isn't a scam. At worst, it's kind of a dick move since you can't share the paid version with family sharing. That's it.

The only really bad part about this game is the anti-piracy method used. I'm not sure why people are talking about the price and everything else more than that.

3) Purchases are tied to the Nintendo ID.... which is the key to allow you to share the purchase with my method.

The problem with this is that only one device per Nintendo ID can play at a time. The better way to do it would be to sign out of the App Store on the device you intend to install on, sign in with the Apple ID that has purchased the game, install the game, "purchase" the upgrade again (the way IAP works per Apple ID is such that it will recognize you've purchased the upgrade before and tell you that you can proceed for free), and then sign out of your Apple ID and sign back into the original one on the device. A bit of a pain but it should work.

Actually I just read your post above, never mind.

The problem is more with Apple allowing reviews and 1 stars based on complaints about price. An app shouldn't be 1 star just because you can't afford it or you don't want to pay; this has nothing to do with the quality of the app itself!!

I mean...lets be real. If it was a dollar and didn't require internet connection, some (most?) people would be complaining about something else and giving it the "if I could give it 0 starts I would" reviews. Can I get an amen?

I've been sick for the last few days, so I downloaded the demo on Thursday because what else was I doing?

I think the best thing for anyone thinking about picking this game up is to try to go for all 3 coins on the first 3 levels, and just get a good feel for everything. At first I thought, oh no way am I buying this, but I kept on and really started to enjoy the challenge of learning levels and trying to follow certain patterns, especially for those black coins. And then the Toad Rally/Kingdom stuff as well. By the end of that, I was thinking ok this is definitely worth $10, and it has been. Now I have every coin in the first 5 worlds (still haven't played the last) expect for a couple black coins, added a few friends and compare coins gained on each level with them along with Toad Rally, gained almost 2800 toads in Toad Rally (that kinda blows my mind honestly...I've been sick?) and made a pretty sweet kingdom. So yeah, I put untold hours into this over the last few days.

This is the first Mario game I've really played since New Super Mario Bros. on the DS I believe, so I was surprised how into it I've gotten. My last Nintendo system was a GameCube, so maybe this is for someone like me? As far as negatives...I suppose the always online thing is a little lame, but really it's not a deal breaker (I've been playing on my iPad in my apt.) I'm saying that as someone who is about to go on a flight in a couple days. But you know what? Maybe I'll read a book. Maybe I'll listen to music. Maybe I'll watch offline Netflix. Maybe I'll write. Maybe I'll have a conversation with the person next to me. Maybe I'll play something else. We're in the future man! So many choices out there. Life is kinda wonderful isn't it?

I suppose the other negative I have is the amount of grinding you have to do to get certain items in Toad Rally. I have my doubts as to whether I'm up to the task of getting that cake...if you don't know what I'm talking about then it's cool. But I think I've done pretty ok in any case. All other criticisms I don't even listen to, especially from someone who either hasn't played the game or made broad assumptions after playing for 10 minutes.

As far as the $10.......hahahahahahahahaha mannnnnnnnnnnn, I can't wait for some of you kids to get out into the real world. When you go to Manhattan and buy a $15 cocktail for your date among many other things in this town, $10 for hours and hours of entertainment is so insignificant. It's the same thing with music: I used to go to Borders once a month and would buy $100-150 worth of CDs because I was so thirsty to explore music/art. And now I can have all of these things all at once at the tip of my finger! For $9.99! And people complain about that!

What a world.

P.S. Ahhhhhh yeah, to the kid who said something about no DLC, Nintendo added a snow globe, poinsettias and a Christmas tree this morning to the kingdom building part. It's not much, but it's something. So they'll probably have some kind of updates in the future I'm sure.

Don't compare this game to a steak. It's just temple run 2D with a very polished Super Mario theme added. There are many well designed/very fun FULL games that are either free to $5 on the app store right now. $10 is being greedy. The multiplayer rally feature of Super Mario Run isn't even live multiplayer. You compete against someone's prerecorded ghost. Meanwhile, I can play against anyone around the world in Clash Royale LIVE and it costs 0 dollars.

"Nowadays people know the price of everything and the value of nothing" - Oscar Wilde

Being greedy? Wow. Some 2-bit game developer has to give away their game to get traction followed by nickel and diming folks to death through IAPs and you call Nintendo greedy? Sorry, but they have been in business a loooooong time. They know the value of the property they have and know $10 is more than reasonable. Still the #1 app almost a week later.

Granted it's not shareable across family accounts, but it was never going to be if Nintendo could avoid it, it's not how they operate (mores the pity.) But you can have it on all of your devices, I've got it on all of mine.

Any long time Nintendo customer should be used to this (I've been one since the 70's) they are always trying to cling to the past in some ways. They are only now starting to creep out of their habit of tying games to a device, not an account, an actual device, which is archaic.

They don't like to miss out on an opportunity to get as much revenue from their customers as possible. Compared to Sony or Microsoft in the home console market, Nintendo are a decade behind with their digital market and online systems.

That said, I'm loving the game. I'm glad they took the direction they did. A full blown Mario sounds horrible to me for a touch screen device. This on the other hand fits into the short play sessions, while actually still offering more control over the characters than just about any other auto runner I've ever played.

I've owned (and still do) every Nintendo system and played every Mario game released. This still feels like a Mario game to me, a watered down one sure, but that's fine for the medium. I'm hopelessly addicted to the Rally mode and I've had more than my money's worth. Compared to a lot of games I've paid for and subsequently deleted for being too boring, too complex, or having horrid controls. This hits the mark for me.

For those of you with the Family Sharing problem!

No need to multiple buy. I explained how to do it some posts ago.

1.- On Device with Apple ID "A": Download App, login with your Nintendo ID ("A"), & buy the 9,99 full unlock.

2.- If the person who you want to share your purchase with doesn't have a Nintendo ID, create one on accounts.nintendo.com.

3.- On Device with Apple ID "B", sign out from the App Store, and sign in with Apple ID "A". Download the game. Open it. SKIP NINTENDO ID CONFIG, complete the tutorial and press to buy the 9,99 full unlock. Say yes to purchase and introduce password. It will say you've already downloaded it and that it will be free. Then link the game with the Nintendo ID "B" account or the one you've created. This will tell your "B" account that you have unlocked the full game. Wait one minute so it syncs.

4.- Close the game, delete it. Sign out from the App Store. Sign in with you Apple ID "B" account. Download the free game. Open it. DURING setup, link it with the Nintendo ID "B" account. To link it, if it only offers to create new accounts, clic on the top left where it says Nintendo account which will bring you to a login page. After login in, press the blue OK at the top and an error will appear. Ignore it. Try again the Nintendo ID linking and know the page that opens will say that you're already logged in and there will be a big button to use the account with the game.

5.- And you're all set. You'll se that you have the full game unlocked.

How in the world did you figure out this convoluted process?!
