Even better still would be if Tim sent me my damn watch already.
Watch is on its way, promise.

As a Nintendo fan, I'm curious to see what they come up with. They make some of the best games, IMO. However, judging from some of the comments here and on similar articles, I think a lot of people are going to be disappointed when they finally realize they won't be playing traditional/classic Nintendo games on their iPhones. These are new games whose purpose is to draw people to their dedicated hardware for the "real games".
I'm just waiting for a newTV with an App Store to play Nintendo games on the TV - Mario Super Kart was one of the best games ever!
i can't even blelieve i didn't think of it right away: PLEASE for the love of god give us multi-player Goldeneye with controller support. i.. i can't even...
The concept is original IMO as well and pretty well executed.
and here comes to...
"Just release the mario and zelda for $1 each and you'll make millions!" comments.
Not happening.
Yea, between Nintendo's somewhat poor hardware decisions as of late and Apple's quirky software, I feel like they could balance each other out nicely, as they both strive for the highest possible quality.
I actually believe Nintendo could do alright in smartphones and tablets, and Apple might to decent in gaming as long as they don't think that people will pay over 600 bucks for a console.
That price point is key....not sure how old you are but if you remember NeoGeo (Panasonic I think?) It was an awesome system for it's day and the price murdered it. Somewhere around 900.00 I want to say....but it's been a long time.
But why not do that with their older games. They don't support the original Super Mario trilogy on any current hardware. It's a common choice for emulstor users.
Just think of the solid ios footing they could have had if they wouldn't have drug their feet so much.
Maybe we will see an iOS pokemon or Zelda, that would be incredible!
This is Nintendo -- they're the last games company who would release freemium games.
they planned for 2017, so 6 years too late I meant for 2011.
You guys really that simple minded? Once Nintendo sinks to that level, it's over.Man..just release the mario and zelda for $1 each and you'll make millions!
Yes they absolutely make the best games. I'm a big fan myself. I couldn't care less if the Playstation or Xbox disappeared. The PS4 is the biggest paperweight I've ever bought, along with the PS Vita.As a Nintendo fan, I'm curious to see what they come up with. They make some of the best games, IMO. Please release Zelf Ocarina of Time with opdated graphics for the iPad... I'd pay $ 50,- no problem...
And no they're not going to make a huge profit from it but they owe their games this, and they owe it to those who played their games 20 years ago and still love them today but can't play them because there's no way to do it.
Currently there is no official modern way to play retro games.
well, here's hoping they don't just end up making games that seem like Rovio could have made them. i do hope they make something cool/interesting, but really what does anyone gamer who was alive in the 80s want from Nintendo? 'bite-sized gaming experiences' based on Nintendo characters, or ports of classic games with support for controllers?
so 'absolute worst' aside, i just focused on that point of the article to wonder why. do you happen to know why they'd refuse to release their classics when nearly every forum discussing this seems to want exactly that - with enthusiasm? maybe i'm partly right - maybe royalties or some embarrassing licensing issue is being swept under the rug. these things can happen, and i't not egregiously negative to question a curious plot point in the story.
saying the experience won't be any good just seems like a dodge. when clearly millions of people don't seem to mind on-screen controls AND more and more controllers are popping up.
Nintendo's like "you do not want this sandwich..." and you're like "but it looks delicious and smells wonderful. i do want that sandwich." and nintendo's like "but it won't be that good. you do not want this sandwich."
Sega? is that you?
Sega started out a software company, Nintendo has always been a console when they first started electronics, and will probably always will be.
Even at $9.99 per game I'd still buy Mario, Zelda, Metroid, etc., on iOS….

I have a Super Nintendo Emulator baked into a now banned App Store app (Remote Files), running a fully functioning ROM of "Zelda A Link to the Past". Full saves and no issues whatsoever. So content and storage at a 16-bit gaming capability is of no concern. The real question will be if Nintendo can get Nintendo 64 titles (Zelda Ocarina of Time) to run smoothly on iOS. If so, Nintendo stands to make a lot of money—not sure if games beyond that platform can be as easily ported.
Even at a $1 people will whine. All people these days expect is free. I'd pay $10 or $20 to be able to play Nintendo games on my iPhone. I miss playing them and I don't know where my Game Boy is. I've given up playing mobile games on my iPhone because the "Freemium" model has DESTROYED mobile gaming. Just let me buy your stupid game for $5 or $10 and stop trying to sell me gimped levels and stupid power ups.
