My 5G is worse than LTE too. I’d assume I just have a LTE tower much closer to me. I’m going to be a little here, there, and everywhere today, including some spots with UW 5G. I’m curious to see how it works out in he world and not just sitting on my couch.

I'm on T-Mobil and yes I have 5G where I live and no it's no faster than LTE. That being said it's pretty much what I expected and I'm set for any increases that might come as the Sprint freq.'s are rolled into T_Mobiles system.

I finally was able to get on the 5g UW and got almost a gig of speed it's really fast. I'm in the Arlington area of VA.

5g is over hyped. It still needs years to develop and will get there. This is why I didn’t upgrade my 11 pro Max. I live in an area that supposedly has 5g but my speeds with LTE are good, so it wasn’t worth the money.

I agree but LTE/4G was the same. So the future is bright. Wait until this reaches 4G levels it's going to be insane.

I’m hoping with so many more people on 5G now the carriers will make improvements to the service in the next year or so. Even so, to me the LTE upgrade seemed much more dramatic. It seemed like LTE was everywhere and noticeably faster. Also hoping the 5G battery drain issues can be remedied.

Same here. I think it probably Verizon pulling a fast one and telling the phone that the LTE connection is 5G, so it displays it. I see no difference in speed when i turn 5G off.
To sum up iPhone 12 reviews don’t buy the iPhone 12 for speeds specifically 5g right now because the coverage is soo poor right now. But if you the phone your upgrading from represents a step up in camera, new design, bigger screen, upgrade if you need a phone. Buy it for the future 5g nation wide support.

However if you want true 5g battery life imho wait and buy the 13 since the 5g modem is more power efficient. The x60 (I think that’s the processor, don’t want to google it’s 7am) that’s debuting soon is more power efficient and integrated into the processor so.. Way more efficient 5g modem and they can fit a bigger battery means excellent battery life. Buy the 12 for other reasons above with 5g as possible icing on top of the cake. Consider 5g like whip cream on a shake. 😂

I’m upgrading cause of the features mentioned above but I’m turning off 5g. I don’t care about it since it will have limited coverage for the next 2 yrs and by that time I’ll upgrade.

My LTE is really good here too. I will get the 5G plan only because it’s the same price as my 4G one. But I’m just not going to use it till the battery doesn’t suffer for it. Makes no sense that they reduced the battery size in a year they are adding 5G. The fact they reduced the battery size for any reason is terrible. Hey Apple, it’s suppose to get bigger every year not smaller! Lol78526FE6-C2D0-48E0-84D3-202D75172F72.jpeg

Hype by carriers to increase adoption, fund further expansion, and increase revenue. So yah buy it for 5g and view it as an investment for the telecoms to roll out their 5g effort 😂
YES !
This is true.

Remember when 4G was rolled out - it was very spotty too.
Now it's common and expected.

Just be patient for 5G.

With the iPhone 12 change in modem hardware to Qualcomm, the 4G data is much faster compared to the Intel modem hardware!

New sim. Haven’t touched the cards in the new or old phone.

I didn’t even think of this, I used my SIM from my iPhone 11 Pro, just called and had it updates to the new (white colored one with AT&T). I did still have 5G on my phone after upgrading plans. Download speed isn’t noticeably different so don’t know how much this matters..

Update: Ran some errands this morning and it appears that VZW's coverage maps are somewhat optimistic (shocker). "Nationwide 5G" is available in my area, just not everywhere that the coverage map indicates. The coverage is also very spotty and causes the phone to switch between LTE and 5G.

It’s cute seeing all these “5G” speeds in the states lol. This is one of the best speeds I got on our network in Canada with LTE last year.

Today I went to a city park where the VZW tower is only a half mile away, in direct line of sight and no interference. 5G continues to be significantly slower than LTE. So I decided to turn off 5G for now.

Can we all agree, 5G won’t be sh%t till end of next year/2022 and we shouldn’t care about it! Lol
agreed. It’s so rare for me to download using lte. It’s usually streaming so it’s not a big deal.

But when Hans got up at the iPhone event and said he was lighting up nationwide 5g right now, that was the selling point for me. It’s the same BS. I know UWB isn’t in my area but according to the Verizon coverage map I am in a 5g area. Plus I had 75g of premium data changed to 50 last night cause I was on the old get more plan. Now I brought myself down and I still have no 5g. FALSE ADVERTISING!

I have 5g according the Verizon map. But after talking to tech support from Verizon. They took my address. And concluded. Even though the map says I have coverage. That I am in a “problem area“ for them. And that my speeds would just be way slower. Till I go somewhere else. At least they admitted my service sucks where I live. But now I am seriously considering switching.

VZW Tech a support is a bunch of well trained emulator readers. Not one of them have a clue. You call back 40 times you will get 40 different answers.

It’s such BS!

UWB I get isn’t ready yet but 5g is being blown up to be absolutely nothing.
