If Apple's goal is for people to buy iPhone 4's right up to the announcement of the next phone, which it is, then it makes sense that Apple's Rumor Ministry would leak out confusing "tips" like this periodically to cover up any imminent new product launch, which it does.

Does it really work though? I mean sure a lot of you have the money to buy an iPhone 5 even if you just bought an iPhone 4 the day before, but iPhones are awfully popular amongst college students (around here at least) who can't do that.
I never buy an Apple product more than six months past its launch, since half its usable life is already gone.

I'm starting to think Apple's just gonna stick with the iPhone 4 for another year. Meanwhile, I'm going to have to stick with my 3GS. I'm not going to tie myself down to another two-year contract for something that doesn't have an A5.

I really couldn't care less about new iPhone hardware at this point, I just want iOS 5 damn it.

It seems that perhaps Apple is having a problem with iPhone 5, therefore causing more rumors and speculation regarding just when this product will actually appear.

Not at all. Apple hasn't given a date for release so there's been no delay of the release.

They haven't announced when they are going to have an announcement about anything much less when it will be so there's been no delay of even the announcement.

Given that no one knows anything officially and confirmed by the number one source, any talk of any kind is just hit foddering, stock manipulating tripe that could be worth less than a fart on a day with no breeze

Cue the rumor debunking this rumor which debunked that rumor.

It is how it is. :D

If I was planning a corporate event I wouldnt choose anytime in the first two weeks of so of September.

I suspect the news outlets etc will be dominated by stories re the 10th anniversary of September 11th and hence I'd want a breathing space to allow the media to reflect, and then move on.

Then do a media launch in the last 10 days of the month to minimise the gap between the announcement and product becoming available.

Well cripes. I skipped the iPhone 4 and am HONGRY for an upgrade. Apple damn well better have something worth these extra months other than a warmed over iPhone 4.

Funny, though, all year, no mention of the new iPhone at all from Apple. I'm not sure I like being played like this...

Actually, if you knew anything about Apple, you wouldn't be surprised.

Apple is very secretive. That's possibly one reason why there are far more Apple rumor sites than there are Motorola, Samsung, Dell, HP, HTC, RIM rumor sites.

predicta-date-rumormongering

Whats more suprizing about this news... That people actually fall for this kind of predicta-date-rumormongering or that nowadays apple "sources" actively deny said stories.

Late yesterday, a report broke on Japanese site Kodwarisan claiming that Apple will be holding its annual fall media event on September 7th. Apple for the first time is expected to introduce new iPhone hardware at the event.

But sources have now flatly denied to the well-connected Jim Dalrymple of The Loop that any such media event will take place on that date.Dalrymple is known to have solid sources at Apple, and has occasionally appeared to be an unofficial outlet for the debunking of rumor claims.

again.... FAIL !!!

rumors really suck on this site

Apple's doing a great job this time around of keeping the rumor mill chasing their tails!

Well any ad for GoogleTV is junk by default. It doesn't matter if Francis Ford Coppola directed it. :D But beside that, you as a fAndroid well knows that Android is open source and Google doesn't endorse 3rd party ads.

It would be especially junk if Coppola directed it. Isn't that the same guy who ruined Dracula?

What makes the googletv junk but not the apple tv?

ding ding!

junk, junk. lol

My iphone 3g is on it's last leg. ugh. Anyhow, soon soon, one way or another. I'm still compulsively checking the rumor sites a couple times a day, as I generally do when I'm in the market for something.

Doesn't Apple normally have these big media events on a Tuesday? If so the 7th is the wrong day. The 6th would be the correct day.

No. Apple typically has their fall media event on a Wednesday.

STOP CHANGING YOUR MIND!!!

/rant :D

They haven't. Apple never released a date, this was just rumor refuted by yet another rumor.

Apple will announce the event for the date they want when they are ready to release that info. If it changes, per Apple, after that then they changed their minds

no they don't i haven't seen an iPod or iPhone commercial or news story in forever, i see android stuff all the time though. apples just playing major catch up is all.

Or not. Apple feels they don't need to waste money on ads. And while perhaps the numbers aren't as good as the combined from all sources, Android numbers, iPhone sales are not at all shabby.

No. Apple typically has their fall media event on a Wednesday.

That is because the event has been more often than not the week of labor day. Media needed Tuesday to travel to the event since no one was going to ask their employees to give up a holiday to do it

Crap, good thing you reminded me. It's only about 3 months until the next macbook pro update, at which time my current macbook pro will become 'unusable'.

Better start saving up my money now!
