yes but if the apple products were so great you would see more commercials promoting them.

They sell like candy. They promote themselves. You HAVE been following the news the last couple of years, right?

iOS is by far the dominant mobile OS. Android is barely a player in tablets because we're seeing that Android currently sucks hard on tablets. It must be a hard pill to swallow for Eric T. Mole to see that the tablet market (as in, next-gen computing) is nothing like the smartphone market.

Apple is the #1 smartphone vendor, and in terms of overall smartphone share, holds close to 30% with only one, and at most two phones, neither of which are new.

I'm not sure how any of this is "playing catch up."

In fact, It's a little surprising Google hasn't made more headway against a 14-month old phone and a 2-year old phone (the 3GS still outsells a lot of newer Android models.) It's kind of embarrassing, actually. Google and partners can barely match the 3GS in some cases. Apple, all on their own, with a closed platform, are essentially hitting all the millstones that actually matter, and leading the next generation of computing with the iPad.

If you consider that (as in, Reality), Google is vastly under-performing given their universal-licensing model.

Wow dude please take off your Apple goggles.

You mean seeing things as they actually are?

What I wrote is all fact.

There is no guarantee, however, that facts will be comfortable.

I may not agree with everything you said, but there are a few things that stick out to me in this android Eco-system. Most it brought on by just reading threads here.....

Apple does have an impressive thing going, with (currently) ONE phone a year release. And people line in droves for it.... I don't think Google/Android could replicate that. Ever.

But, I do agree with the "fragmentation" aspect of Android. It will continue to happen because the handset makers need to keep making money. Correct me if I'm wrong in my thinking here but when an app is bought via the marketplace do they don't pay the handset maker a %. So the only way Samsung/HTC/Etc make money is on the hardware. Which means they can't afford to churn out a new handset every year. Which in turn leads to a new handset for every tiny new "spec", which leads to fragmentation. Developers are constantly having to deal with new hardware and new versions of the software - it sounds frustrating to me, but maybe they don't mind.

At what point of market saturation does the android handset market go to the ultra-low-cost PCs? The price they are willing to pay will go down even more, and then where are the handset makers going to get their income from? Google will still be making their app and ad money.....

I don't know, I just find it interesting to watch play out. Having just upgraded to an iP4 from a Treo, I won't me in the market to buy something else for awhile.... Which leaves me to watching.

Anyway, I have a number of friends waiting for this event, so it could hurry up and happen! (and my daughter wants a new nano and is waiting to see what might happen there)

Enough waiting already!

Well cripes. I skipped the iPhone 4 and am HUNGRY for an upgrade. Apple damn well better have something worth these extra months other than a warmed over iPhone 4.

White iPhone victim here! I am stuck with my 3GS and it's been working perfectly for over 2 years. So I didn't even get a chance to get a NEW (I mean replacement) phone from Apple to satisfy my new toy fix.

I really like to see iPhone 5 instead of 4S. If Apple don't deliver, I will keep using my 3GS until the glass wears off!!! :D

These MacRumors news posting are getting truly ridiculous.

I mean really.. No news is actually news now?

Crap, good thing you reminded me. It's only about 3 months until the next macbook pro update, at which time my current macbook pro will become 'unusable'.

Better start saving up my money now!

Yes ineed, I'm actually saving up some money.
And you know, my guess is that on the media event (hope in the first week of September) they'll also announce there new MBP.

I think it will be like this.

1) iOS 5 is finnished and can be downloaded tomorrow.
(maybe a quick preview of some unseen software of it)
2) iPhone 5 / iPhone 4S and budget iPhone
3) iWork 11
4) hole new iPod series

One more thing
5) the new MBP:
specs: same CPU's
New look
Blu-tooth 4.0
No optic drive
126 gb SSD standard + 500gb HDD (upgradeble to ssd)
8th ram standard (upgradeble to 12 or 16gb)
Longer batterij
Hopefully and even better GPU
Smaller and lighter.

But I think my mone more thing is wishful thinking.
But, if they announce a new mbp, I'm gonna buy it, no matter what.

Invites

So is there any concrete news as to when the media event is likely to take place?

How easy (or hard) is it to get an invite to one of these events?

Cheers

This would be a perfect event imo. I really want some indication on the MBPs as soon as possible, but I also want to know what is happening with the iPhone as I am currently going back and forth between getting an iPhone or a new 3G iPad.

Perfect, it's too soon anyway.

It's important to get this iPhone right.

I was at the movies with my wife yesterday, her 3GS had full signal strength and no problem calling or connecting to the internet.

My iPhone 4, had a measly one bar and would not connect. Nor could I make a voice call.

While that was no surprise, it was one more reminder why the next iPhone has GOT to be functional.

Come on Apple, I KNOW you can do it, if you just try.
