This day has just been... disappointing.
Indeed. Flash would have been a big plus.

I agree, more could be done. Personally I would prefer a great piece of hardware with a solid operating software that is being built upon rather than waiting for the OS before I get the hardware. To answer your question, I would show you the original Keynote. The $600 is for 3 devices.
1) An all new iPod. A bigger screen with a new OS that runs on the best touch sensitive controls yet. Multiple sensors that make navigation easy. By turning the iPod you go into cover flow? That is cool!
2) A solid internet device. There still are few phones that do both cell and wifi internet. A device that can switch between the two is great. It is built around things like google maps. A touch sensitive device that is built to use google maps? All phones need this! It knows when you rotate the screen and turns the page to help! Plus, just touch elements to zoom in. Sure. No Java or Flash. I would bet its coming though.
3) A great phone. They looked at the phone and tried to figure out what is missing. Adding callers, viewing voicemail and getting to your contacts. Its all thought out. Other manufacturers dont really think about the experience when it comes to this. I always have problems with my phones OS's. It is hard to get to what I want.
If that does not do it... i'm sorry. This is a mobile mac. The integration with Mail, iPhoto, iCal and iTunes cannot be done with other phones. Get a Treo... you need to work to have it connect to your computer. Your phone should be the one working to try and get your inbox.
I give you the same response people have been giving all along. You keep using your crappy phone while I enjoy all the other great things about the iPhone. You dont see what those great things are? Check my post above. (4 posts above this)
Once again, don't give me that. A mobile mac should have more then address book, Safari, watered down quicktime and an awkward looking version of iTunes (can I even say that?) to be an ACTUAL Mac, it would need to be an OPEN PLATFORM or at least something other than "well it has developers! sorta. If you make something on the internet, you can view it on the iPhone!!!" Weak.
And I say, once again, go get a treo. This thing connects to your mac nativly. It builds itself into the apps you already use. So you can't write your own software. Chill out! Other phones are crashing like crazy because crappy developers cant write propper code. I would rather have a locked down working phone than a phone I can screw up. You want open source? Why even use OS X? Sure, you can write for it but would linux be even better? That is complete crap. You wont buy a phone because only the manufaturer can write for it? Enjoy your cheaper, poorly thought out phone running a generic OS that can be found on just about all other phones.

This isn't a confirmed story.
OK, I will. I'll enjoy my GPS, MP3/Video player, video camera, flash support, open platform, games and much more for half the price. And you'll get a touch screen phone that can take notes and view half the internet. Oh, I'm sorry, you can connect it to your mac so you can share contacts...and bookmarks...and notes (?) What else, songs? Big deal. I don't want to sound cynical, I have a MacBook, an iMac, even two TAM's but this is just rediculous.

This was one of the things I liked most about the iPhone. I just want to be able to browse the web and watch youtube clips when I'm at someones house. So maybe I can save myself 400 dollars.
