On their dime? It costs nothing to keep signing iOS 6 for 1-2 weeks.

Unless you live near an Apple store, how are you supposed to be able to test before you commit to iOS 7? They only made it available in betas to developers, if you even know about it at all (most people don't).

One day, your device says it wants an update (which it's already downloaded perhaps), and like always, you press okay. Now, anything that goes wrong, it's too late. You can't go back.

Look around at how many bugs and design flaws you see people having. A 1-2 week reverting window wouldn't hurt Apple, but it sure would help its customers.

Look, I'm not arguing against the desire to NOT UPGRADE. It's just that it's up to you to perform due diligence. No one put a gun to your head and made you upgrade. Yes, Apple could have left 6.1.3 available but they didn't. Now it's time for the end user to take responsibility for their part.

I upgraded some of my devices, and didn't upgrade others. You know, it's kind of funny. The Walmart(s) here where I live all had iPhones (4S) running iOS7 for me to check it out and so did the Best Buy. I waited, I didn't jump of the ledge without looking to see how far down it was under me.

Those who leaped before looking are now upset about their injuries. I wish you could downgrade, but you ultimately pushed the button. Deal with it.

You're right that nobody forced anyone to upgrade. Just that it was already downloaded to the device, pestering to install.

Most people aren't on this forum, like you and I. I accept that I shouldn't have downloaded, although I genuinely believed things would be better than they were. That's my fault, because I had even tried the betas earlier on. My girlfriend didn't update, and now she's having a good laugh at me. Mind you, she would have downloaded had she not experienced it through me.

But the other people I talk to, who don't even recognize the term "iOS"... their phones said update, so they updated. Now, some are having problems (not everyone), and they didn't realize that an update could have such negative effects.

In a perfect world, people would be well researched in everything they encounter... but some people just got used to Apple's updates over the years and didn't necessarily expect problems to arise suddenly.

this is why i always test the beta even though I'm not registered. i can use it for a few days, then downgrade and know if I'm going to update or not... i learned the hard way going from 5.1.1- 6.0...

Not really, it's more like you asked someone to replace your interior and didn't have a look at it before authorizing the work. Then when it was done, you didn't like it, and want them to put it back the way it was on their dime.

Neither of out analogies are spot on, but mine is much closer. You are just trying to defend your position and emotions. I get it, it's human. At some point however you need to look in the mirror and realize you made the decision and the responsibility rests on your shoulders. That said, I hope you win your battle.
Or you did look based on what they showed you about what it will look like, but what they showed you didn't show everything about it, including what parts of the old interior that you used would be gone and what effects the new interior will have on you (like perhaps a new smell that will come with it that might make you uncomfortable at times, or something like that), given that there's really no way to expose that without actually having and using the new interior first. If "imperfect" analogies are going to be made, at least they can include even more details that are closer to what's being discussed.

Now, presented in this manner, I completely agree with THIS post. It's well composed, reasonable, and understandable.

I have learned to be VERY cautious about upgrades and modifications over the past 35 years because of the same type of disappointments. You are correct that a longer transition period should have been allowed. I couldn't agree more...

So tell us more.

Well 3 years ago after the iOS 4 update killed my iPhone 3G, I vowed never to purchase another Apple product again. I switched full time to Android and purchased an Android phone, Android tablet that very day.

Today, I own an iPad 4 with Smartcover, iPhone 5 with Apple case, MacBook Air 2012 and Apple TV.

What Apple did with iOS 4 to my iPhone is NOTHING compared to what Android OEM's will do to you. They will stop pretending you exist as soon as you walk out of shop with their device. Never again...

WHat do you mean OEM. what you mean you don't exist. what did they do to customers.

Well, Im just gonna keep it short! If Apple really valued its customer satisfaction, during iOS 7 betas trial on iphone 4. They must have known about iOS 7 usability on iphone 4. And if iphone 4 hardware really cant handle iOS 7. Then apple shouldnt offer iOS 7 upgrade to iphone 4 users in the first place!! So that iphone 4 can still stick on iOS 6 and can still be happy about it!

Apple wants you to pay them to get the 5c or 5s.

Apple should not in fact let you "go back." That's not in their best interest. That's not in developers' best interests. That's actually not in consumers' best interests, believe it or not.

The problem is that iOS 7 shouldn't make you want to uninstall it in the first place. They need to hire someone with software usability design experience to fix iOS 7 (because that particular person in charge is a neophyte in this area; his work is irrefutable proof).

Apple also needs to quit the scam of hosing older devices on purpose to encourage you to upgrade. Even the most novice QA engineer would have reported that iOS 7 running on an iPhone 4 resulted in a horrible user experience. The cut-off should have been the 4S. But no, Apple encourages you to crush your 4 because most of those owners are off-contract by now. They did this with the iPhone 3G too.

WHat do you mean OEM. what you mean you don't exist. what did they do to customers.

A lot of Android devices can never be upgraded or are totally broken when upgraded to a new release. When Samsung puts out a new phone, the previous phone may as well have never existed. Having a brand new OS available on a day one for a 3 year old phone (iPhone 4) is pretty much unheard of in the mobile world outside of Apple. Having it install with a simple push of a button is something only iOS users enjoy.

Well this is the wrong concept about products marketing. Apple doesnt need to forced iphone 4 users to buy 5c or 5s. In time, satisfied iphone 4 users will buy more apple products in the future! But dissatisfied customers will think otherwise!

About "When Samsung puts out a new phone, the previous phone may as well have never existed" well this is not entirely correct. Because several older samsung phones still receiving os upgrades. Whether its from gingerbread to ics or even jellybeans.

And about "Having a brand new OS available on a day one for a 3 year old phone (iPhone 4) is pretty much unheard of in the mobile world outside of Apple. Having it install with a simple push of a button is something only iOS users enjoy." Well this is true! Only apple give new OS update to its 3 year old phone (iphone 4) but what is the purpose of giving new os update to an old phone when those update are gonna ruined its user experience using that phone? When most of iphone 4 users are currently happy using iOS 6? Like i said before, apple shouldnt give iOS 7 update for iphone 4 in the first place. And satisfied iphone 4 users will in time tempted to buy new iphone when they think it is necessary for them to buy a new iphone.

Well, think about this way. Your phone is slow and unresponsive. Features are missing and not supported. Apple innovates quick and I like that but to keep up, you need to buy. If he doesn't upgrade now by the time IOS 8 comes out, the iPhone 4 will be uber slow or dropped. It's the Apple cycle of life.

I bet iOS 7 life expectancy will be much shorter than iOS 6. iOS 7 is different but it is not better than iOS 6.

It does feel to me that ios 7 is the new ms vista.
Both had special graphic feature that didn't really do anything and both were riddled with huge and poor design choices.

Nice said, I hope that they would change it at some point :D

Even if you waited two years, you'll realize that you have to upgrade sooner or later so, why fight it?
As time passes, iOS 7 will get polished and will become better than it already is.
I wasn't too pleased with the new design at first, but the more I use it, the more I understand the benefits of it.
The new design also helped improve its Accessibility features and other interactions.

People who move forward and then look back, usually don't progress.

Yeah, iOS 6 is entirely crap. I'll be sticking with iOS 5, and then I'm switching to Android! Apple should never have pushed this update on us!

It's still funny to me how people will complain no matter what. People were livid about iOS 6 when it came out, and I didn't upgrade for a very long time. I updated to 7 on launch day, and I couldn't be happier.

Use it for a few weeks and you'll like it, or just not care. In the mean time, stop your whining, everyone.

Yeah people, stop having opinions and posting them on an online forum dedicated to discussing opinions related to Apple...that's not what the forum is for! ;-)

Just settle down. I downloaded iOS 7 on all my devices and I love it. If you can't see some stuff in iOS 7 I suggest you get contacts because you probably need them for everyday life as well. Btw you/she must have done something wrong to her device, I know a friend who's iPhone 4 was running iOS 7 beta and it ran perfectly and quite fast as well. It also ran perfectly on the public version of iOS 7.

You can read reviews, the myriad of articles on sites like this, go into a store or even just the support website Apple puts up when the software launches.

There are ways to look before you leap. Maybe not perfectly but decently.
