however, that the MacBook Pro launch will likely not occur until "early next month"

Oh this is so wrong what will I do my current mba is 5 weeks old and I need a newer machine so bad!

In reality though I think I "may" buy a new pro in 2012 once onboard usb3 is available.

In the meantime ... worry worry worry!

just a spec bump, nothing else to see here, move along...

Spring 2012 + Ivy Bridge + new form factor = sweeeeeeet!

Doesn't Apple only refresh each computer line once a year? I don't ever recall them updating any computer line twice in the same year.

Last year the MBP got a processor speed bump on BTO machines around this time, although it isn't listed in the buyer's guide section because it's not a real refresh just an addition/alteration to the options available in the Apple store online. If we see the same kind of thing this year, then the full refresh would be one of the longest the MBP has ever had (average is 215 days this time it will probably be a year or more). Unless we get an early Christmas present and the Ivy Bridge redesigned Macbook Pro/Air comes in time for the holidays (!) but that seems unlikely.

I would hate to be in a position waiting to buy a new MacBook Pro; it would feel like torture!

Yep, this is me. I have a computer scholarship that I've recalled already and I must submit proof of purchase by November 7th. I don't have to take delivery then but the receipt and such gotta be into the financial aid office and the company I received the scholarship by then.

I guess theoretically I can wait until November 6th, and if nothing materializes, I'll just cop the MBP I was going to get then. I'm sure 4.5 yr old HP Laptop can last a few more weeks, especially with this iPad in my lap...

and MacRumors changes it's mind on when the refresh is. Come on

'Cause you're hot then you're cold
You're yes then you're no
You're in then you're out
You're up then you're down
You're wrong when it's right

Hope they bring about 13" MBP with a decent videocard option.
Will buy that in an instant

macbook

I just returned 11 inch lion macbook air,( Bestbuy store),I was think about pros and cons for 2 days, check reviews etc... until i came to the conclusion ,Not worth the price! :(

I have seen apple do this with their powerbooks/macbook pros before. Minor refresh in November....and then BAM! MAJOR redesign in January.

I think thats what will happen this time too. Apple needs to clear out inventory before the complete redesign. What better way then an upgrade before the holiday rush?

Then Completely redesigned macbook pros without optical drives will be announced in Jan/Feb

At least this is my edu-mac-ated opinion. :)

I have a friend who is all set to by the base 15" MBP. When I saw this post, I told her to wait just a little while...from what I've been reading, though, it looks as though the bump will be pretty small. What would be your advice? I don't think she is in a huge rush, but you know how it is when you've decided to do something.

Maybe... In my opinion, a major update will most likely only happen once the new Ivy Bridge processors are launched and some newer GPUs + a few more weeks. If a redesigned MBP will hit the market in February or sooner / later, that will be definitely nice... I don't bother too much with these things, if I like it, I will buy it... and I am quite sure that there are quite a few other people who will do the same.

Well well, my trusty old whitebook (Late 06), I'm proud to say, has lived a legend in its time, running extensive Windows applications through Parallels while serving up my increasing image & video processing needs (70-megapixel stitched image and a short film in 720 amongst many others).

From what I've heard about Ivy & the supporting macbook pro update, I don't think it's for me. I burn DVDs a lot (When that, I sometimes have all three of my machines burning sequentially because I'm to cheap to go professional and I have the rest of the printing/labeling set up at home). INTEGRATED Graphics performance supposedly improves, which barely bothers me. I'm skeptical on the 6750M, however it seems to be quite up there already.

I'm looking at my 15" to last me through to an updated Haswell/Rockwell/Somethingelsewell (they seem to have changed it?) that's promising to deliver more. For all we know, this massive change going 3-D might just see its hiccups and need time to be rectified.

So for all of you there, I'm against the Macbook Pro Air idea and with everything circulating, I'm going with this when it updates and purchasing while I'm overseas (apple products are a complete ripoff in New Zealand..) and the timing is just about perfect!

White macbook
