How likely is it that Apple updates the design in 2012?

Likely. I wouldn't necessarily bet on it, but likely.

If they had a MBA with 8GB of RAM, I'd be all over that. We'll see. If the next MBA refresh offers that much RAM, sold. If not, I think I'm gonna wait one more refresh on the MBP. My current machine does everything I need. (Although... I would love a quad core in my 13" for VMs. My use is edge case though so I'm certainly not expecting it.)

Wow. 2010 MBP and you're already looking at an upgrade.

I originally got the first generation Unibody 15" which replaced my black MacBook. I liked it, but I really don't care for the 15" form factor at all.

So I sold it and got the 13" model for nothing out of pocket. It's been a nice little machine, particularly with the RAM upgrade and SSD (great birthday present).

However, the screen resolution is my biggest gripe. The MBA solves that, but 4GB of RAM is not enough for me.

I upgrade my laptop every 18 - 24 months. Macs have decent resell value compared to other laptops and since I use my computer in a professional capacity, I like to be running newish hardware.

Fair enough. Well, I've run my trusty Whitebook to the end... it's been tough, seeing my increasingly demanding workload for my event photography and lots of motion graphic work. I too hate the res - but then again, before this I was running 1024X768 off my ancient Athlon (which given the reliability, is still my backup / media server since it runs iTunes as good as anything :p)

Despite the resale value of them however, in New Zealand it's just about impossible to find buyers. Half our aging population think Pentium D is still revolutionary.

The new macbook pros will be the same enclosure at the macbook airs. It might not happen this time around but it will happen within the next year.

Oh LTD, for heavens sake...take Intel out of your signature! Theyre a huge reason for Apple's success! Pshhh, hater :p

By the time I get around to taking Intel out of my sig, ARM will already have taken their place. ;)

And despite record breaking profits each year, so is Microsoft

Oh they're making money, alright. But from all the wrong things. Unless you like running Office on your Xbox.

By Spring are we talking March or May?

p.s. I like the current form factor.

:cool::cool::cool:

Don't worry about the form factor. John Ive will not let you down.

BTW, I doubt there will be a new form factor as the current one is perfect.

cheers

Agree... I still use my Powerbook Titanium 1GHz every day, which is when closed roughly the same form factor as the 13inch uni-body Macbook Pro. Except the screen which is bigger on the Powerbook (15inch). Perfect mobile computer size.
If Apple redesigns the Macbook Pro, I would like to see an edge to edge screen, much like the Powerbook Titanium. The screen of the current Macbook Pro 13inch is just a tad too small and doesn't have the anti-glare option.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_3_3 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8J2 Safari/6533.18.5)

When it will release it?

Yeah the TiBook had crazy small bezel, and was a really nice design; it's only a shame back in its day I was studying and in no position to buy one. It strikes me often these days as quite amazing. I did get a 12" iBook in 2002 in that position, and I was the only one in my course with a laptop. These days you hardly see a student without one, and most of them are Apple, even here in NZ. And the same goes for iPhones of course. Times have so changed!

Always loved that ad btw, I had a 12" PB for 3 years and it served me very well, but I can't imagine going back to one that small :(. As it is my '08 pre-unibody 15" will be followed by an Ivy Bridge, I reckon.

He was being ironic. Notice the trademark?

People have been predicting the doom of Apple for 20 years. Anyone who wasn't a post-Intel hop-on would know that.

I am happy with my Macbook Pro 13 inch earl 2011 model. It runs great. Apple will ALWAY update their Mac's. You know that.

Let's wait it out together. My 3 year old eeepc has to get me through a couple more weeks.

I'm in desparate need of a laptop - eek :(

My current Sony vaoi Laptop (only 2.5 yrs old) has gone - the graphics card in it is from a faulty set and sony issued a statement about them over 2 years ago - tried contacting them and nowt back. About 3 weeks ago they said they would reply within 48 hrs - yeh right! Still waiting.

Anyway - even if they do fix it i'm still set on getting a MBP and I can give my Sony Vaoi to my fiance as he isn't really into computers at all and has an old pc desktop that he doesn't use very often, so I thought I'd give him my laptop.

At the minute I have 3 assignments due in, in the next 3 weeks and the only computer I can use is my dads windows desktop. It's actually not too bad - he has two monitors which is coming in really useful for doing my assignments - only thing is he's get very irritable cos I'm always on it and he needs it. Though he has 2 laptops and a netbook but I won't use them cos they are rubbish and not good enough for me to work efficiently on

Then there's work - I DID have a Toshiba Satellite with work - but I went off on the sick and gave it to them to let the temp secretary use - now I'm back only 2 days a week (cos of uni) and she's still there and I haven't got it back yet and they haven't bothered buying me a new one yet (which they said they will)...

So I'm stuck! lol..

But anyway that's my story - I need it now but oh my I want to wait to see if the updated MBP comes out in next few weeks - I hope it comes out this week then Ican get sorted!

:)

I would hate to be in a position waiting to buy a new MacBook Pro; it would feel like torture!

going on 35 months with my OG UniBody 15'' PCIe ExpressSlot I'm gonna run it to the ground True Grit style.

Waiting on Ivy w/USB 3.0............................................................................................................................at this rate why concern myself we'll probably die of a virus or asteroid, civil war before they release such specs.

Intel will be around for a looooooooogggggggggg time. What are your credentials for determining how a company should make their profit?
