No MacBook Pro Refresh Until Early Next Month?

Just noticed the upgrades are now showing on the online store (in the UK at least).

17" now 2.4GHz at same price as the old 2.3GHz) with 2.5GHz CTO. Also graphics is now 6770M up from 6750.

Also just noticed on NZ store, and see it is on US store as well. Exciting.

ok so no new MBP 13"? it is definitely going out then..

Apple did a silent update. Changes are in bold text. Thank Jobs we didn't have to wait until November.

Wonder what the real world differences are? I mean, will the 6770 show any worthwhile differences in things like rendering/framerate?

The new macbook pros will be the same enclosure at the macbook airs. It might not happen this time around but it will happen within the next year.

I'm concerned that this might mean keys with less travel, which would make them annoying to work on eight hours a day.

The Ivy Bridge power consumption is going to be the killer feature of next year's model. I gotta hold out, which is extra painful because I just got a Thunderbolt display and can't use it with my 2010 MBP! Even with the monitor sitting idle I can't justify one of these mid-term refresh models when Ivy Bridge looks sooo good.

Mine (15" 2.2GHz, mid-2007 I think) has been acting flaky for some time. Had the mobo replaced for the nVidia thing, but there are still occasional kernel panics and WindowServer crashes -- my feeling is video driver issues in the latter OS updates. Also the optical bay area is mangled - painful story involving my wife and a misunderstanding of f=ma. So, I'm due for $employer to refresh me. Had been holding out for the redesign, but will likely pull the trigger on the refresh if it comes before Purchasing locks up for their EOY madness. These days the thing rarely leaves my desktop -- for casual mobile use my phone is more portable than an MBA would be. When I do take out my MBP, it's almost always somewhere with power, so battery life isn't a huge concern for me.

The same pricing MBP 13 has a bigger drive (500GB v. 320GB) and a slightly faster CPU (2.4GHz v. 2.3 GHz). Overall, better stuff for same price, which is good.

BTW, if you buy them from Apple, you can have a printer for free AR.

OMG I am planning to buy a Pro 13" and very complicated..:(
Should I buy one on december or wait until March..? (March is Maginot line to me.. guess I can't wait more than that)

Do you need it now? If so, buy it.

Do you not need it now and can you wait that long (at LEAST March/April/May)? If so, wait.

Decisions.

Oct MBP speed bump = "refresh"?

I'm confused about the MBP refresh news posted by MacRumors Oct 21 and Oct 24. It sounded like a refresh was to occur in Nov, but then there was a small speed bump in Oct. So was the Oct refresh the one that was expected to happen in Nov? Or are we still waiting for another refresh?

On Oct 21, MR posted this:
"Just yesterday, 9to5Mac claimed that a debut of updated MacBook Pro models was "likely" to occur next week, offering a minor speed bump refresh to carry the line through until the launch of Intel's Ivy Bridge platform next year. AppleInsider now reports, however, that the MacBook Pro launch will likely not occur until "early next month"."

On Oct 24 (three days later), MacRumors posted this:
"Apple today quietly released a minor update to its MacBook Pro line, offering upgraded processor, and in some cases graphics and/or storage options at the same price points as the previous models."

Does the "minor update" described on Oct 24 represent the "minor speed bump" described on Oct 21? Or are we still waiting for the "debut of updated MacBook Pro models"? To me, "debut" implies substantially updated models, not a "minor" speed bump in existing models.

I understand that the entire MBP line is due to be revamped with Ivy Bridge in early 2012. I'm just trying to understand whether another round of updates is expected to happen between now and next year?

Thanks,
Mike

For anyone who has a 13" 2.3 i5, just keep it. Through a series of events I won't bore anyone with, I sold my 2.3 i5 and bought a 2.4 i5. I wrote up my thoughts here.
